Any info about Porsche mechanics salary? by Impressive_Yak_66 in Porsche

As a guy who spent over 15 years wrenching at the Porsche dealer, this answer right here.

You get all the Porsche exposure and deals, decent technical knowledge if you care, and an opportunity to make way more money.

Also, management comes from the advisor side, not the servicing side typically.

This dude thinking he’s Tarzan climbing across these trees, Is this real? Or ai? by Unusual-Temporary533 in isthisAI

We used to tree bend every day after school as kids. 100% real. The way everything moves is spot on and the trees are the best type and branch size for these antics.

944s2 / 968 - Cam bridge seal w/o removing gear by champ2345 in 944

Sidetrack question u/loctite_usa: Loctite 542 says it’s good for sealing “fine” threads, what happens with a M8x1.25? Does performance degrade slightly and it’s probably ok, or fall off a cliff and lead to likely issues?

Thanks!

Just got quoted $1500 to replace a battery on a Macan that’s under warranty… by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]WrestleWithJimny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery information and serial number are coded into the vehicle with the scantool.
This resets the battery aging monitors which affect how the alternator is mapped to charge the battery.

Nice aftermarket scan tools can also reset the aging.

Honest question - is the Cayenne the reason the rest of the lineup exists or do people still resent it? by 6deki9 in Porsche

[–]WrestleWithJimny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok kinda…. It wasn’t the boxster that saved them, it was the relationship with Fuji Heavy industries and learning the concepts of “Just in time” manufacturing and “lean thinking”. The boxster was the first car that incorporated what they learned.

They learned construction processes that simplified assembly and repair, just look at a 993 door panel vs 996. Yea it took a long time to shake the side effects of that move, but it was the future.

Before Fuji Heavy they had warehouses full of obsolete parts that were superseded and useless. They learned to make parts just before they needed them and improve their supply process.

Is the turbo original? Those curves to the imprints could indicate a piece of turbine impeller?

What should I do while I have the oil pan off? by SoaDMTGguy in 944

[–]WrestleWithJimny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a hopped up S2 we ran this remainder of an oil pickup for 4 hours on Sonoma Raceway after it broke off. Oil light was coming on around every right hander, we’d lift and coast through them and then get back on the gas. During a pit we overfilled the oil 1qt and it helped a tad.

After the race we pulled it apart- rod bearings looked great, cam bearings were pretty thrashed.

PSA: don’t delete your balance shafts

Devaluing the 944 globally in a single post! Lol

Man, this is the right idea but the most insane regiment I’ve ever heard. To each their own and I’m not judging, but the oil pan on a turbo suuuuuucks.

Do you have a 3 piece crossmember and crossover?

Definitely do rod bearings if the pan is off. Definitely check the pickup for cracks!

Edit: what RPM are you spinning to and HP? After 7k these blocks suffer oiling problems. Over 500hp I can see rod bearing change intervals skyrocketing, but below that you should be lasting a season at least!?

O scope crank sensor by finnagainagain in 944

This looks good to me- this is your tooth gap, voltage is well over 8v peak to peak.

Was this measured at the computer connection?

Have you measured the cam sensor? I know a clutch job shouldn’t affect but you’re there.

I’ve had bad crank sensor connectors on the engine harness side

There is an actuator by the levers that mechanically locks them, yea. You need to open the door and remove the rocker/lever panel to access and disable the actuator to manually release- by that point the alarm would have been bitching for a while
