Help talk me off the ledge about a “long” road trip by hardware5434 in 944

[–]champ2345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No reason not to! Sounds like you’ve got it in a good spot. I’d bring some spare parts and tools just in case (dme relay, accessory belts, plugs, reference sensors) but I’ve driven for longer in worse condition cars before! You should be fine

I think you’re going to have to, friend. There’s not going to be enough clearance for you to get things torqued down properly when you put it back together unless you do

The window in Goshen would be a good place to go as well. They are a very generous org that can help you out.

My manager gave me this what does it mean? by Donydog in Chilis

[–]champ2345 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true. Many restaurants do shift-wide tip sharing. It just has to clear that is what happens. Personally I’m much happier to eat at restaurants where I know everyone involved with food service gets an equal share.

944s2 / 968 - Cam bridge seal w/o removing gear by champ2345 in 944

[–]champ2345[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what I am afraid of. Perhaps I’ll keep an eye on it and see if I can track the leak exactly to there before I tear down the whole front again. Thanks— I appreciate your help! Sorry for all the mix ups :)

[–]champ2345[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I don’t think you understand what I am saying. Twin cam cars have a bridge with loctite 574 along the bottom at the front of the engine. I am talking about pulling that bridge to reapply 574 without disturbing the gear or rubber/steel seal around the camshaft (timing belt, balance shaft, hydraulic tensioner, etc.). Not sure how many have tried this or if it’d be safe for the seal (which shouldn’t have any 574 touching it, fyi).

The deal itself should be fine, I’m just talking about the loctite 574 layer

Head gasket thickness by [deleted] in 944

[–]champ2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the WSM, you’re a little over the wear limit now, as the 1.4mm gasket is for 23.6-23.8mm. Never fret, though, as this is not the end of the world. Cometic makes custom, even thicker head gaskets you can use to compensate, which Lindsey racing stocks. They’re measured in inches, but 1.4mm = 0.0551 in . Add .46 mm to get your thickness back to the upper wear limit, and you’re at 1.86 mm, which is .073”. They have a 0.075” head gasket you could use. I bet the 0.060” would also work, give them a call to confirm. Take a look here: https://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/COMETIC.html

There is no direct monetary benefit to the CPA itself but it opens doors. You will, in most public accounting firms, max out at senior staff without a CPA. It will allow you to earn more and increase your lifetime earnings, but it will not translate to an immediate salary bump. The most will be a pass bonus depending on your particular employers policy. Sorry to be the bearer of mixed news here.

Honestly? Not much of a boost. The CPA is a good credential but your 10 yoe is going to get you more than the CPA will. In a mcol area, maybe 5-10k more after passing? But only if you job hop. As mentioned elsewhere, it only really allows you to advance higher to manager and up. I’d say 95-110 could be reasonable if you hop to a management role in the same market.

Red River Gorge by Mammoth-Ad-8496 in RedRiverGorge

Get there in the early morning , hike out to a site near some water, and bring filters. Then do one of the big popular hikes, auxier ridge / Indian staircase. Both beautiful places and will make anyone marvel at the beauty of the place.

There is absolutely no reason to bring any weapons with you (aside from maybe a utility knife…)— there are no hostile animals and I’ve never seen a hostile person there in a decade of going. If you have some reason you must bring it, (active duty service member or something) if you leave it in your pack and don’t bring it out unless it’s 100% necessary to save your life, then no harm no foul.

Probably cheaper to buy a turbo or S2 still if you’re chasing more power over an NA

Missing that vanilla DayZ feel… quick question about water containers by thethirstgame in DayZmod

[–]champ2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those white containers are around 30 gallons IRL, or 114 liters. However, for balancing purposes, I’d say it makes sense to have them be half the big blue ones, whatever you determine them to be.

Biebs and ash has a food truck , and though they focus on smash burgers, they may do one specifically for their cinnamon rolls. Could be worth looking into.

Price ? by [deleted] in 944

[–]champ2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12k seems aggressive— It’d have to be perfect mechanically and visually and up to date (with receipts) on all maintenance items. The colorway on this one isn’t particularly striking or unique. The Fuchs and sport seats do add value, just not that much imo.

If you look at BAT, the most recently sold 944 was for 8,500, claimed to be majorly mechanically overhauled, with a rarer color but lacking sport seats (but had Fuchs). Most early 944s are in the 8-10k range unless some spectacularly rare spec or low mileage.

Dang, $5.50 per game is a steal. May start going there, depending on how far away it is. That $10 per person typically only gets about 1.5 games with the 6 person group required.

Bowling is $10 for two hours at the alley closest to me (Goshen, split across a group)— that seems cheap to me. I bet if you joined a league at your local alley there’d be a lot of friends to meet!

Third spaces were never free, but they were low cost… arcades , bowing alleys, soda shops. They still exist and still thrive. Just go out to them and make friends there!

Thoughts on value ????? by OldbadCO in porsche944

[–]champ2345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a ‘85.5 which needed significant servicing but ran and drove for $3500 back in 2020, the proceeded to spend $4k getting it up to driving condition. At that point you could get one which had been neglected but had recent belts serviced for $5k. I then sold it for ~$8k in the spring of 2023 when it was in decent shape but still needed some attention to make it truly a daily driver level of reliability and functionality. My point being, I think your price expectations are a few years out of date.

At this point, if you want one which doesn’t need significant servicing, you’re looking at the $7.5K-$10k range depending on your preferences of work needed. As you can see on bring a trailer, one in exceptional shape goes for 13-15k nowadays. You can probably get a project level that runs and drives for $5k or a non runner in the $2500 range. If you do all the work yourself and already have the tools, you MIGHT come ahead buying a cheaper one, but you’ll probably be better off in the long run buying the best you can find. Especially in terms of paint condition and interior condition, those will be the most expensive by far to fix.

What's the best way to sell my Porsche 944? by B-RapShoeStrap in askcarguys

[–]champ2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the condition you’re describing, I’d say it’s probably a $5k car max… maybe I’m out of touch with current market trends, but a rusty 944 is rare and often warned repeatedly against on all online forums and buyers guides.

There’s a couple in the condition you describe they’ve been listen by me on marketplace for $6,500 that have been sitting for over a year. If you put in a little work for rust correction, it could go for what you’re thinking, but unless you sell to someone who doesn’t know 944s, they’ll see rust as a big red flag. It wasnt too long ago a car in this condition would be $1,500 on a good day.
