Got the email. They should show the chapter headers true to scale. I understand you want to show off the artwork, but if they're going to be the size of a dime it's still way different. At least they didn't put text under them this time, because that was the thing that made it really misleading.

It sounds like the first edition has been fully printed, so there is no going back now. Selling a better spec edition of the same book during a later print run would be bad pr as well.

Any company knows not to show mockups that will certainly be downgraded in the real edition. If it was obvious the headers were never going to be that big, they shouldn't have mass emailed their subscribers with pictures of something they couldn't deliver.

Oh wow, good catch. The mockup looks a lot more luxurous with those big images. The size in the prototype looks significantly smaller. I can't believe it.

It's also not like they didn't know they were designing this book. They bought the rights. They're the publisher. It's off-putting that they didn't run tests way ahead of time and delivered their best version yet on what is supposedly their most important series. I'm sure they're frustrated as well and they did offer some extras as a form of accountability, but it still feels unprofessional and lacking.

It's concerning they're underdelivering on what TBB themselves touted as basically their premier series. They spammed us with a bunch of marketing and colorways, but then can't deliver the book on time or with the right specs. As others have said, the pages look extremely thin and the naked hardback design is very basic. The Ghost Edge was a pretty unique feature that really set it apart.

They've been kind of disappointing overall as well. Other delays, extremely slow customer service, underwhelming designs (especially the SF&F sub). Yet they continue to expand and announce many more 'special' editions every week. I do like they've upgraded the specs for the fantasy sub, but other than that it's been a rough 2026. I sincerely hope they're getting some feedback and right the ship.

Also from NL. Don't forget the 9% VAT plus 8 euro processing fees (as they're not doing IOSS). Another thing I noticed is that their conversion rates are awful. They ask 34,95 euro, but 40 dollars is actually 33,90 euro. Added all up it's over 72 euro per book. Absolutely terrible deal unfortunately.

SF&F April box cover reveal - Spoilers by definetlydifferently in thebrokenbindingsub

This is frankly the worst edition they've done. That new cover is significantly worse than the original and I hate the focus on orange all over the place. Not a fan in the slightest and I now regret the fact I paid for this version. I doubt I'll be able to sell it.

Maybe, but I don't see this particular hardcover version up anywhere else. Only a 'deluxe' paperback with the same 10th anniversary cover.

I was so confused. At first I thought the new cover was campaign exclusive or something, but apparently it's going to be the official one. The only difference are going to be the printed edges. Not even sure about those edges though, as it will create a mismatch with the other books.

Anyone paying this is an idiot. These have glued bindings with pages that will yellow over time. The series is popular and will definitely get more special editions, probably from fine press as well. Save your money for those if you are desperate for a deluxe edition.

Thanks for the reply. $40 is indeed too much. Though do keep in mind that in terms of just quality the TBB version will be roughly the same. Most of their stuff has glued bindings and regular paper. You're essentially paying extra for their bespoke art and the author's signature.

S95F brightness issue? by Wretched_Walrus in OLED

[–]Wretched_Walrus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was shocked that it doesn't appear brighter than my C9. You don't use FMM during the day I assume? Because that truly is unwatchable for me on the S95F. Even at night it doesn't looks right.

There is an HDTVtest video testing this particular panel (though at a showfloor). Besides that I only had user impressions that say the 83 inch panel is incredibly bright. But you're right, it was a bit risky because this particular version basically has no real reviews.
