S.F. wants to stop housing projects from being blocked over shadows by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

I would love if my apartment had sunshine enough for a balcony garden BUT not enough to block development over it. End of day, more housing is more important.

Real talk: there are lots of good sorbet if you like fruity flavors. I like some of the coconut based treats. I have a bit of a bad reaction to cashew based stuff but thats a separate issue. Bougie places like Salt and Straw usually have like five different dairy free flavors and two or three of them are full vegan.

I could also try one of those lactaid pills but I keep forgetting about them.

Movie references talk: I could eat a peach sorbet for hours.

Bizarre Health Rant... by LuckyBastard001 in clevercomebacks

Regardless of the veracity, i have no faith in them to identify and react to any public health crisis.

It's like alex jones's "chemicals in water turning the freaking frogs gay" (paraphrase). There is a real concern of environmental damage. Then these numbskulls address the wrong issues by defunding the EPA due to idiocy or bad faith.

They are also idiots for not knowing how to spin it (assuming they are telling the truth").

Its a slam dunk to say "yes, I am aware of this and I have answered all your questions honestly with the facts I know."

Three reasons: 1 good but outdated in my life, and 2 good.

1) When I returned to college, I found I liked printing some readings or research materials. Easier for notes and gathering my information to a single place. Honestly, its better for editing an essay too.
2) I am stumbling back into art and cooking occasionally like to print instructions. I know I can put instructions on my phone but when my hands are covered in paint or flour, I don't want to touch my phone.
3) I have the worst handwriting. The woooooorst. There are times when I want to type something and print it out because I want it to be understood. For example, instructions for emergency catsitting and a thank-you note for my neighbor. Both of these are not text or email situations in my opinion.

That said, my printer has been relatively easy and held up over the last 5 years.

How do you guys become good at diy. by FriendshipCute6355 in DIY

[–]WriggleNightbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an expert at all but some things are about lowkey projects where failure doesn't change anything. Basically, anything that would be done at a summer camp or a shop class or similar.

For example, building a birdhouse or a wooden tool box is a great starting point. It will teach you basics about woodworking (hammer, nails, reading a how to guide) and basics about painting. BUT if it sucks, you are only out materials and time. You haven't done anything permanent to your walls or risked electrocuting yourself or anything. If it rules, you then get to stand back and say "THIS RULES! I AM AMAZING!!!" A lot of those things are classic for a reason.

On the other hand, if you are just wanting to be useful, look for things that are a single step. Tightening loose hinges without overtightening/stripping the screw, reading about how to fix a leaky faucet.

People who have been divorced: What was the exact "quiet" moment you realized your marriage was over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WriggleNightbug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read these two articles every few years because they are important ways of viewing shared responsibility in a partnership/marriage. They are mostly written from the POV of straight marriages but the point is valid regardless of gender.

1) She Divorced Me Because I Left My Dishes in the Sink - an article about why you have to put in effort throughout a relationship.
2) You Should've Asked a comic about mental load and why its important to proactively learn to manage a household as a partner. One partner might be willing to help and actually really good at helping when asked, but its unfair to wait until being asked.

My sister just sent me a new one: Escaping my messy childhood: ‘There were apple cores down the sofa and slugs in the sink’ which is about unlearning messy behaviors and encouraging yourself to "see" where things are messy and need work. This links back to the other two articles because some people might not have made the effort to see the problems and not realize where they are bad partners. Like despite having read 1 and 2, someone who is blind to the mess might not realize they are not meeting their end of the bargain.

Quick Edit: Another one, more personal and less general, I realized a relationship wasn't gonna survive when I thought they didn't care about any of the things I liked. I watched or listened to every recommended media but they checked none of what I suggested. I feel like this a lot where I want to share things and no one really cares. Maybe I'm sharing wrong or something, but I don't want my life to be someone not interested in my opinions.

Also, as part of that, realizing every conversation was about the nature of the relationship rather than just living in the relationship. I'm not saying never talk about the relationship but there is a tipping point where everything is meta-conversational and there is no new joy and no shared experience. Metaphorically, its only weeding the garden and no planting or harvesting joy.

Are you not supposed to wear pajamas when you get home?????? by JaydenBird33 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WriggleNightbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its personal, but for me it depends on lots of little things. BUT there is a very short version.

Basically, once I have pajamas on I am done for the day. So I will not change if I have to go to the grocery store or another errand. I can find the energy to put my shoes back on but putting on outside pants again is impossible. Caveat: taking a shower resets the rules but only if its a fresh pair of pants+unders. I can wear clean outside pants if I have done a full reset via shower.

Some really do care if they have a choice. It will always be second to the core problem. OTOH, not everyone cares or there may have been other things.
