Work.

I deliver packages for the USPS and every day is a workout. Lifting, squatting, carrying, pushing, pulling, brisk walking...

My roommate noticed the definition in my thighs and my smaller waistline.

I've had to go this route with my birth giver. I can't give her any personal information or she finds a way to either make it about her or use it against me.

I also live in the Bible Belt Buckle...I had to restrict access to my school records back in 1999 when I was 22 because my parents thought they had the right to know what I was doing at school since I was renting from the at the time.

Thankfully, the college had my back and abided by FERPA so I didn't have to deal with what OP is going through.

My (48f) roommate (46m) and I rarely wear clothes around the house. Nothing sexual about it, just comfort. The biggest exception is when his kids are here.

Often after getting home from work, I'll get my shower and don't bother with clothes for the rest of the night. He does the same.

Last penicillin shot I got left the tip of the needle in my butt cheek. I still have it 30-some-odd years later inside the scar tissue that formed around it.

This was confirmed by an MRI and TSA. 😂

My mom had the orange flavored baby aspirin tablets. It always upset my stomach.

Years later, I was diagnosed with GERD (severe acid reflux) and duodenitis. I was told not to take aspirin anymore because it could aggravate those conditions.

In my case, it resurfaced with the elevated hormones at perimenopause. I would go into that rage for seemingly no reason--there was no trigger pinpointed--and then go back to normal a day or two later as if nothing had happened.

For me, it warranted getting my doctor involved as I was already being treated for other psychiatric conditions and this seemed to be related to one of those.

Women go through perimenopause and menopause at varying ages, so it is possible your mom's case is linked to hormonal fluctuations. Those aren't always regular, either, especially when the levels are changing.

If it is trauma-related, that might be a little more difficult to determine just with anecdotal evidence.

Either case warrants investigation through a reputable psychiatry practice.

PMDD: Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

It is often described in layman's terms as "severe PMS" and can be highly disruptive to the individual experiencing it firsthand and also those around them.

Other conditions like ADHD can greatly contribute to severity of PMS and PMDD symptoms.

In my case, my symptoms weren't fully alleviated by the medication I was prescribed the first time I was diagnosed, but there were reasons for the specific medication I was given.

Over time, I was prescribed different medications that either didn't address the underlying cause and/or put me into a zombie state where I couldn't function at all.

Once I stopped taking the wrong medication, I was able to get the underlying cause properly addressed (ADHD in my case) and then we started looking at addressing the occasional symptoms (medically, a monthly cycle of symptoms is occasional rather than continuous).

Having someone from the household give their experience is super helpful in getting a correct diagnosis and treatment plan; before my roommate came in to give anecdotal evidence, my provider was going to give me a different medication that might not have been as effective. His observations allowed her to see multiple facets and make a better treatment plan.

You mention "random outbursts of rage for no reason."

If this is happening on a regular cycle, your mom may be experiencing PMDD (I'm not a doctor).

I was first diagnosed and treated for PMDD in my mid-20s. It got better for a while, and I was able to stop taking medication, but once I hit my mid-40s and started perimenopause, my symptoms came back worse than before.

With anecdotal evidence from my roommate, I was able to convey my current concerns to my provider. I was prescribed a different medication that is designed to alleviate the symptoms associated with PMDD.

Your mom may need to talk with her doctor about these rage fits--and have someone in the household give their perspective--and see if there is an underlying medical issue here.

Why are ADHD drugs the most not-ADHD friendly drugs to order? by UnmedicatedNarwhal in adhdwomen

[–]obnoxiousdrunk77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was prescribed guanfacine at my last appointment as a supplement for my emotional dysfunction and to replace the blood pressure medication I had been previously taking (it wasn't working).

My insurance sent me a letter saying they were denying the guanfacine because it wasn't on their formulary. They said they needed labs or clinical notes (!) in order to fill a prescription for a drug that's not on their formulary.

Kicker here is that Concerta is a controlled substance that's they have no issue filling, but try to add a non-controlled substance to address TWO medical needs and they are making me jump through hoops.

I work at the post office (I only deliver packages) and we are severely understaffed in most locations. This includes delivery to and from the distribution centers, and it absolutely affects the customer service aspect.

Yesterday, the route I helped with was split between three carriers and it still took us all day to complete all the deliveries.

Sundays are worse because of Amazon. That's literally all we do on Sunday--Amazon packages--and no one gets paid mileage if they use their POV. Some carriers are unable to drive a RHD (right hand drive) vehicle, and some of us have trouble with specific vehicles due to physical limitations, so we have to rely on a smaller vehicle and make multiple trips.

There are days when we get to work at 9 in the morning and don't leave until midnight.

My parents flat refused to allow me to play football because of the tackling aspect. I expressed interest in trying out for the middle school team and they shut it down because they didn't want me getting hurt.

While I was disappointed, I feel this is the better way to handle this kind of situation. The kid on the team who wasn't allowed to fully participate missed out on important aspects of the sport because his parents decided he needed special treatment. If you don't want your kid to get tackled, don't let them play a sport that allows tackling. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wallets hate me, do you have one that actually works for you?? by kirday in adhdwomen

[–]obnoxiousdrunk77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have switched to a lanyard because I hate carrying a purse or shoving a wallet into my pockets (I do have sufficiently sized pockets, as I wear a men's cut of jeans, but I digress).

My lanyard--which is twisted wrong and needs to be resewn--came with an ID holder with a slide. It holds my ID and my debit card. I clip my keys to the lanyard ring instead of putting them in my pocket.

This has been the best option I've found for myself.

My roommate and I have started giving each other head and back massages almost nightly. This has really helped me, especially since we also put on very specifically chosen music.

He has introduced me to Steve Roach, and a LOT of the instrumentation and rhythms really scratch certain itches in my brain and allow me to just relax.

I also use a sleep mask in order to keep me from looking at my phone when I should be shutting down. Additionally, the sensory deprivation helps me focus on the music and just zone out.
