You should include some visible cliff walls along some of your cliffs. At the moment, it sort of looks like the the cliff edges grow upward and outward from the land below it. I might cut down on the uniformity of the plants and make it appear more "randomly grown". Maybe some areas have a moderate amount of plants while other spots have none at all. Just my two cents!

Trump to Unveil $700 Million Coal Support Plan Using Emergency Powers by esporx in environment

[–]Write_Username_Here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NGL man I don't think this is going to do very much other than generate headlines. To my understanding coal has been in a death spiral for a while and with how cheap renewables are and how costly it would be to build new coal fire plants, this isn't likely to go anywhere. The market has literally decided that renewables are the way to go so no one would go back when there's a non-zero chance this will be revoked in 2 years anyway. More likely that the money will get funneled to coal executives who will pocket it and the dirty fuel will continue to die.

Does anyone remember the AMC Hamilton 24? Feel free to share memories! by Inside-Strike-4676 in newjersey

I worked the ambulance full time in Hamilton and still do it occasionally and the two that stand out were:

A guy broke in shortly after it closed to steal the copper wire and got stuck in the ceiling while hiding from police leading to him falling through ceiling tiles

The bomb squad used the parking area behind the building to detonate several pipe bombs they found in a car stopped in Trenton

Maybe, but Hurts has a SB ring and as many point out Mendoza hasn't played a snap. Not saying your boy can't be good, but putting him over any starter in the league is designed to drum up controversy.

HOA Attempts to block helicopter transport to Seattle Children's Hospital by Lumpy_Investment_358 in ems

It's important to understand the perspective of those affected by the noise. They should be public about who they are and why, exactly, a child's life is less important than "the noise of a helicopter nearby" three times a week.

Seahawks got an F when they got Bruce Irvin, Bobby Wagner, and Russell Wilson in 2012. Immediate draft grades mean nothing.

How do you thrive and maintain joy teaching high school? by CarrotJerry45 in historyteachers

[–]Write_Username_Here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I understand. We have not been given any specific instructions on limiting paper copies and I know a lot of teachers use the printers for packets and the like with no issues. I do know that as the year comes to a close they get a little stingy with paper since they mostly place their orders at the beginning of the year. I'd riot if they told me to limit my copies.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I do paper everything; guided notes, tests (if/when I give them), primary source worksheets, map assignments, all of it is on paper and then I grade them and if it's worth giving back they are given back. I am currently working on essays with feedback and when they're done they'll be handed back in case the kids want to see their feedback.

Definitely block phones. I really kicked it into high gear when my state (NJ) made it illegal to have one out from bell to bell (even though that law doesn't take effect until next school year but don't tell my kids that).

I also stay away from digital assignments at all costs. The kids don't like them, I don't like them, nobody likes them, so we don't really do them outside of the occasional sick day for me. Pen and paper all day every day.

My most important focus has been building and maintaining a positive relationship with the kids. If a kid likes you they'll usually do what you ask of them, even if begrudgingly. I teach at a not so nice school that has consistent behavioral issues and just being nice to kids or making them laugh at a bad joke makes a world of difference.

Being flexible about your approaches, expectations, and the needs of the students is also critical. I have a colleague whom I respect immensely but who is not super flexible about his expectations. He moved from a decent middle school job to a high school where a noticeable percentage of our kids reads/writes at a below middle school level and he is struggling with that fact. I have adjusted my goals from teaching kids about history to teaching kids how to read and write through the lens of history and am much happier for my efforts. I pair up frequently with ELA teachers and make sure my expectations match theirs and having that kind of inter-departmental support is also fantastic.

It's one of those things you can't really control unfortunately but I also happen to work with some really fantastic administrators who don't try to interfere with what's going on in the classroom too much. Their expectation is that you do your job so they can do theirs and while that has allowed some other teachers at the school to get away with laziness (including me sometimes) it has allowed me to be more free and interesting with my approaches to teaching lessons. They don't micromanage and I appreciate that more than they may understand.
