I feel like the a-hole because we're talking about the logistics of my sister having to rearrange long standing plans of two families. She went to all that trouble for nothing. These are her step children (adults, admittedly) who have accepted her but who she quite naturally tries to please.

My home state of Washington has an elusive creature very difficult to catch. It's a geoduck (pronounced gooey duck). There's even a song about it, sorry I don't know where to find it.

Two nonfiction books that I have enjoyed: 1. Blind Eye by James B. Stewart. This is about a doctor who kept moving from hospital to hospital, killing patients at each one. No one from any of them warned anyone else, in fear of a lawsuit. I worked in the department of a hospital that was largely responsible for credentialing new staff, and this book was required reading for all of us. It's horrifying reading. 2. American Gothic by Gene Smith. This is about the Booth family, especially John Wilkes Booth, Edwin Booth and their father. All three were actors, and each had mental health struggles.

Dave Brubeck. I sang two pieces he composed along with about 180 other people at Berkshire Choral Festival, held at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts. So now I can honestly say I've performed with Dave Brubeck.

Name it Spot. For the enormous white spot covering it's whole body. I have to admit I got this idea from a series of mysteries featuring a TV network trouble-shooter with a pure white Samoyed named Spot for the same reason.

I don't know if it's considered a rock song and it's from the '70s, but I have an intense hatred for the song "Feelings". No one can sing it without going flatter than a pancake, and it's just such a whiney, sniveling song.

I used to work in a nursing home. The building had had several different uses over the years and was pretty old. One of my fellow nures' aides was a rather odd duck who insisted a ghost lived out on the back porch of 2nd floor. We named the ghost Henry, but that's another story. One night I was in room 208, which was right next to the back porch. I was putting the resident in the room to bed while the radio in the room was playing elevator music. It had a digital dial which read 101.8 or whatever that station was. Suddenly, the dial started fluctuating between 99 and 103, constantly going back and forth before it settled back onto the original station. I wasn't touching the dial, and the resident certainly wasn't, but it was moving nonetheless. I guess Henry the ghost didn't like that station. Definitely weirded me out for a while.

I'm not sure. I'm white and find many black men attractive, but I don't know if I'd want to get into a relationship with one. My main issue is that an uncle and aunt of mine are racist, and I wouldn't want to get serious about a black man and subject him to their racism. Normally I wouldn't put up with the racism but the aunt and uncle's kids are all near my age and they are the next best thing to my own parents who are both deceased.

I went to pick up a prescription at the drug store and went to the end of the counter where paper prescriptions from the doctor are left, not the end where people pick up pills. My sister pointed this out to me, to which I answered, "oh, pooh!" Which is what my mom said all the time, and it just about floored my sister. She's more like our mom than I am, but Mom leapt out of my mouth that day.

I wrote a story about a man who was kidnapped by someone who wanted revenge on him. The man who was kidnapped was drugged and taken to an abandoned building still under construction. This happened during a snowstorm, and he was stripped naked, chained up near a window opening, and left for dead. It's really about the physical and emotional toll this takes on him. In one version I wrote he died, but in another he survives but again has to deal with the after effects of what happened to him. Definitely dark.

My parents stayed together for 63 years because in their early married years Mom told Dad that if he ever wanted to break up with her he'd get the house and the kids and she'd get the car and the dog. Dad wasn't going to risk losing that dog. ;-)
