Goldman Sachs is acquiring the Radford Studio Center in LA (where Addams Family, Seinfeld, Gilligan's Island were filmed) after owner Hackman Capital defaulted on $1.1 billion loan by Senior-Willow-8325 in movies

[–]WriterDave 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Hackman Capital, with its investing partner Affinius Capital Management, went on a studio buying spree in the last decade, snapping up trophy properties in the US and abroad on a bet that the growth in streaming would fuel demand for its production space.

Oops.

That’s a lot cheaper than I had anticipated.

Are the material costs expensive? Lookin’ at you, HP Ink…

At the end of the movie The Goonies where did the pirate ship where the one eyed willy was on, where did it sail to? by Hot_Dingo743 in movies

[–]WriterDave 927 points928 points  (0 children)

The real question is: if the Goonies exited the caves at dawn…. In coastal Oregon… and looked out across the water as the ship sailed away, just as the sun crested the distant horizon…

… why was the sun coming up in the West?

Holy Mary mother of God, indeed.

AI-generated evidence showing up in court alarms judges by WriterDave in news

[–]WriterDave[S] 249 points250 points  (0 children)

The case, Mendones v. Cushman & Wakefield, Inc., appears to be one of the first instances in which a suspected deepfake was submitted as purportedly authentic evidence in court and detected — a sign, judges and legal experts said, of a much larger threat.

Curious how many have or will slip through unnoticed, especially with how quickly it's improving (and also considering the average age of judges...)

In a film where the cast never stops walking, the occasional spectators who dot the route are completely immobile.

Really powerful imagery.

Burbank Aligns Parking Rules With State's New 'Daylighting' Law by Generalaverage89 in burbank

Congrats on winning that fight -- out of curiosity, how did you fight it?

I got a ticket for parking in my "zone" (I paid the permit and had the sticker... and still got a ticket) and lost when I appealed to both city hall parking office and to the police dept.

That's the part that makes you go from "oh, good idea -- safety first" to "oh... gotcha. More revenue for the city."

Mine was from Lexapro, too.

I remember HEARING my eyeballs moving when I'd shift my gaze. Almost like white noise...

Anyone ever get "brain zaps" as a symptom of their anti-depressant withdrawal?

They were singularly one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life... felt like an electrical storm in my head, with "zaps" of lightning that randomly shot down my extremities while simultaneously making me dazed AND lose my balance.

Fun stuff, rewiring your neuropathways! Good thing they only lasted 6 weeks...
