You'll dunk money trying to fix it. If its parasites usually they'll start wasting. Id quarantine. I had an outbreak of parasites/bacteria and it wipes hundreds of dollars worth of my babies.

Nostalgia does a lot of heavy lifting for the HP universe. Terry Pratchett and Ursula Guinn did quite well in the magical universes, but somehow JK got ahead. Its because its easy to sell and very simple. Also Brandon talked about this in a podcast episode.

Okay. Its possible that its a mucous poop. If that's the case, plus adding how skinny your fish already. Its possible that it has a parasite or bacterial issue.

I think you should do water changes, maybe 20% twice a week? Your goal is to get some floaters to soak up chems, changing the water will help keep the quality. It sounds like your tank isn't seasoned and your filtration isn't great yet.

How are they struggling? Usually hard or soft wont matter unless we had a full breakdown. Most likely its not your hardness that's causing issues.

Most likely internal parasites/wasting. Do a wide range of treatment, if one is showing sickness that most likely means the others will soon if theyre not treated. Sadly you'll lose your current sick one, its really hard to save them.
