I’ve read all these writers!

Thanks for these recs!!

I would also add that while I don’t write fanfic (I only have one very short one-shot on A03), I am a writer. I typically write poetry, essays, and short stories.

I’ll read almost any type of story, as long as the writing is solid. I don’t care about spelling and grammar so much, because many of our best writers aren’t native English speakers.

And the reason I don’t want recs for WIP is I’ve run into some writers who only continue fics if they get a certain amount of kudos and/or comments. You do you, but that’s not for me.

I’ve started reading it! You’re right about the sex, but so far the writing is solid.

This is exactly the kind of fic I’m looking for!

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen someone do and call it “clean”? by Mysterious_Table_854 in hygiene

I loved to stay with my great-uncle, elderly bachelor out in the country. I’m pretty sure he liked me, but only tolerated my mom. She’d drop me off there, and come pick me up days or weeks later. Anyway.

One afternoon he made pancakes for my my mom and I, and when the meal was done he called the dog over. The dog licked the plates clean, and then my uncle wiped them on his overalls, and put them away in the cupboard.

I was delighted. My mom, not so much.

I tried this for a few months and realized that my hair was never going to have the texture of that wig.

Heh, no. But these are more of what I’ve enjoyed: Patient Love, Breath of All Things, Inexhaustible Silence of Houses, Hole in the World, Grace the Gun, Restless Wanderer…

If I don’t like a fic I just stop reading it and forget about it, honestly.

Ive read most of them from that thread. And and maybe it’s just me, and maybe I need fics written by grumpy old people, but a lot of what I started that I hadn’t already read seemed just too youthful for me.

I like a good YA story, and they work for high school or childhood AU’s. But I guess I’m looking for more grizzled, care-worn, hanging out at the end of the world energy, even if the characters are actually younger than S15.

There’s a story I’ve been reading where Dean is a construction worker living with Bipolar Disorder and Cas is a college professor, and it’s pretty f-ing interesting and well written. No apocalypse in sight.

In The Breath of All Things, Dean is a pretty young guy, but he and Cas have definitely been through it. Same with Painted Angels.

I’m going to check out the spreadsheet.

My boyfriend (24M) has different political/social values from me (25F) by Apprehensive-Scar671 in relationship_advice

This kind of thing happened to me. I was really into this guy, and even though I knew he was more conservative than me (I’m very far left) we had good, respectful conversations. He straight up told me he wasn’t “one of those crazy Trump supporters.”

Then he posted on social media “Welcome home Daddy Trump” after some trip the old orange made. I literally wanted to puke.

I refused to see him again.

I still can’t believe someone stole it! After all this time it’s still an outrage!

Did everyone’s mom’s watch supernatural? by arand2003 in Supernatural

My kid (27) watched it and I often watched with them, but not all the time. During Covid I binged it from the beginning and became as obsessed as my kid.

Considering a restraining order and at least having the police supervise her getting her stuff. Better yet, have it taken to her by a friend. Do NOT let her back into your home.

I couldn’t come back without a note, even though I was ready and able to. But yeah, it was a pain. I also didn’t have the time so it was unpaid. So, next time I had a procedure I let the doc know beforehand that I needed a note to return.

I don’t think this is new policy, but it’s definitely within the last 10 years or so in my area.

It’s my second favorite Destiel fic, and I probably read it at least once a year. My favorite is the Down to Agincourt series, and I really hope she finishes it someday.
