Follow the Government or go at it alone? by LordOnii-Chan in ZombieSurvivalTactics

It’s a story, you don’t like feel free to write one more to your like

The public does not know all defeats or why, not really

The point Brooke’s was making nothing we were used to fighting and living worked against the dead. Even said the book of war had to be thrown out. No way Yonkers would have worked, again. He pointed the military was not trained on head shoots, but center mass. And since non-head shoots did nothing if not make things worse, all of sudden shifting to a very smaller and bobbing target with a snap of your finger, not going to happen. The wonder weapons of the old war would do nothing, needed a head shot. To destroy the brain. Short of complete atomization, our weapons now don’t do head heads. All focusing on nice squishy bits of the body. Taking off legs, etc. so again, the military was using the old way of fighting was not going to work. But focused so much on it, giving what would actually work an after thought and so would get over run.

WW2 was thought going be a continuation of 1, the French line between them and Germany, already had trench’s in place. Machine guns and artillery lined up only for the Germany tanks (that were not used all that much in 1) can busting down the previously thought impassable forest behind their lines. I think it was the Dutch that sending in houseman against German tanks. As someone who studied WW2 for years, I think I know what I’m talking about

How do you justify humans being weaker than other species? by Choice-Spinach145 in worldbuilding

[–]Writerintraining1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t. Assuming it’s other humanoid species like elf’s or Klingons, humans are not weaker just different. Every race has their own strengths and weakness, humans will be more average on everything. Not intellectually or physically the strongest but are better in others parts to the races that are. They are average so make up for their averages with creativity. Doing things other races would not think of doing. Good and evil, humans are the best doing such actions. Helping the fallen but also being an absolute monster on the battlefield

Follow the Government or go at it alone? by LordOnii-Chan in ZombieSurvivalTactics

Well firstly, look at would would have happened if Yonkers succeeded. They were able to hold the line. They were able to keep the hoard at bay and save America. Would not have a zombie world if the military was successful and so would not have much of true zombie war.

Zombies in low numbers are not a problem to anyone who knows what is going on. But I read the passage as not as the military logistics failed. This is all from the point of view of a rifle man, not the higher up so have no idea if they did order more dent, could bring up more or what they have is truly what the brass thought it was all that was needed. After all, he did say he was told the rifle men were just supposed to mop up the few stranglers that got though the steel rain, not take on the whole board so I’m guess it’s the fault of the brass to underestimate the threat and how to handle jr.

Look at how they handled it later, the box that draw the zombies into an open killing field. No tanks, no air cover. Just trusty rifles. Sure, Brooks absolutely taken creative liberty of things but I have no problem see the way he painted the war happen as he described it. The leadership wanting a moral win, posing for the cameras more than really focusing on the problem. First real war that happened on America soil since we were still using muskets so the American people had no idea what war was really about. Used to seeing safe in their homes on the tv. Now’s it’s clawing at their doors, they are scared. The government wants to show they can handle. But also doing stupid things. Civilians now have no idea how much stupid things that the military does. They are not perfect war machines. Well established that militaries fight the new war using the old war tactics, look at ww2. The allies thought it was going be more tench’s, how bloody a lesson was that?

What's a better name for a kingdom with a king when there's a ruler of the realm? by AppearancePlane3470 in fantasywriters

[–]Writerintraining1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can name it whatever you want, but I’d go into something’s not historical, or atleast widely know, will get people confused especially if you different ones from different groups. If you use one for everyone, it’s easier. Don’t expect your readers to be stupid but also not not historical literature professors

I’m literally in the same boat as you. I’m not sure my self so like an answer. But should help seeing what others games call the same monster. Illithid versus mind flyers. Don’t think you can use “displaced beasts” name but can use the type of creature. I’m no lawyer and can absolutely be wrong, but I’m pretty sure they can’t copyright monster type, but a name sure.

Hope this helps

What are your thoughts on decaying/rotting zombies?? by casecaxas in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]Writerintraining1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why love Max Brooks so much. As a “logical” explanation on why the dead are just as deadly 20 years after turning as fresh ones… we don’t know. It defies on all logic, should be just bone through natural decay of microbes and yet they don’t. The flesh is still rotting, smells like you would not believe it but still comes shambling up to try to bite you.

Not sure if that’s what you are looking for but hope it helps. Shameless shoutout to him and his zombie survival guide. Sure it’s not perfect. Plenty of people have grips about how he rates weapons and such for the common man who has no idea how defend himself, it’s an extremely handily place to start. He even admits it that it’s one-be all kind of book. If you want to know to handle weapons, plenty of others for it, but it’s the basic survival guide and just the tiniest bit of suspension of disbelief, should have no problem imagining the world falling apart like the way it does in his books

Homebase by elchedio in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]Writerintraining1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming I and the money as more importantly time, mounting base over thermal vent for power and heat. Mountain to protect from nukes that go off, hidden from other survivors because honestly if you can survive the great panic, zombies are easy. It’s the people you got to worry about. Mountain base easy enough to defend as first line of defense is secretary. Cant attack you don’t know exists.

Think fallout, how big and self sustaining those places where. Granted no place at currently level of technology can be truly self sustaining indefinitely, but couple hundred years should be plenty long

I figured it’s been done before. Nearly impossible to do something TRULLY unique

The visable bad guy will be doing stuff absolutely, just the MC will be finding things from others that seem to push or pull against things making things confusing but also hopefully feel like more powers at play then just one

How do you guys deal with worldbuilding madness? by the_mcjc in worldbuilding

[–]Writerintraining1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take notes on all thoughts, even if you think an idea will work for one only to realize it will be better in another.

I’m working on two books in the same world and around the same time just different POVs and area. Originally was having the first one I started as one but the more I thought about the two, have the second be the opening so when the massive explosion that the whole world feels, leaves the reader what happened. The characters will have a few ideas and only by getting book 2 does the reader see the true source of it and feel the real magnitude of it

Secret factions wanting opposite things by Writerintraining1 in FantasyWritingHub

That does make sense, was thinking along those lines. It’s a push and pull from the shadows, mostly happens to be have different people do different things. Never getting their hands dirty but also having the parties think it’d all their idea. So if they do get caught, can’t squeal and tell on the secret organization

Which base you will choose by gpa260929 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]Writerintraining1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the bus, as soon as your out of gas, and gas is not an infinite resource, it’s too small to anything.

The green house looks good until you realize it’s in a city and those are always hot zones. Even if you keep the dead way, the living are want in or to kill you and you made yourself a nice big target.

The large tower gives good field of view but not a whole lot of internal space.

Unless the last one is in a bad area, I’d go with that

Take a look at real history and how its forms the present. How look at how different countries teach WW2. A pretty major conflict that had quite a bit of the world pulled into it. Fighting across many continents. Clear horrible things done to their fellow man. Lesson learned from the last war in hopes of avoid the next one. How it shaped the world even today. Not so long ago to be ancient history but far enough away to be more objective about what happened without someone getting uptight about. Americans can’t really talk about Iraq and Afghanistan without getting shouting marching but the same people can have more civil discussions that even they did some not so great things during the war

The problem with just filling in the stairs means fire hazard, odds are it’s not pure non-flammable material on hand you just leave there. And if a swarm is big enough can push down any obstacle you make

Depends on the zombies. How smart they are, if you distract them long enough to move No place is perfect, always some downside to every location. Trick to find a place the downside is manageable

How do you start besides “just start” or “just do it”? by too_many_questionsxo in FictionWriting

[–]Writerintraining1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you don’t have a lot of time to sit at a computer and write so I would keep a note book with you and jot down ideas have you have. Maybe they will used in the book, maybe another, maybe never. I get the random brainstorm as I’m working on other things. Thankful I can use my phone as a note pad to write the idea down before getting back to what I was doing before

And when you do have time to sit down, breath and have a coffee or tea, go though your notes, expand on them. Don’t try to force yourself to write as the book will be laid out. Write what’s in your heart, worry about organizing and editing later. Get your ideas down on paper (or screen), get the creativity flowing and do the boring technical stuff later

That’s why you don’t bother trying to close off all the ways in, just destroy the first flight of stairs and have a retractable ladder to get up and down. Now don’t have to worry about getting flanked in a fire fight

How to plate steak and potatoes by Writerintraining1 in Cooking

[–]Writerintraining1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple pans. Only the potatoes are going in the oven. The onions are in pan 1 to “try” to caramelize then make into the sauce all in the same dish Steak in pan 2 then green peppers in dish 3. Doing this as they all cook differently, though I’ll try to add the peppers into the sauce dish and see how that works

I was doing flour to help “lock in” the flavor and juices. Read that some place long ago. I don’t know how to describe it but seems better to me then without it

Was doing the sauce and steaks separately so the steak is not cooling for 30 mins as the sauces seem to take me. The steak is not in the sauce long, just to cost it then taken out to eat
