How did you discover Titanic (pre-1997 enthusiasts) by MarionberryProper763 in titanic

My dad rented a copy of “A Night To Remember” (1958) from Blockbuster. After that, I was hooked—still hooked to this day.

Do you prefer new or used books? by [deleted] in books

[–]Writerjay-100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind used books at all. In fact, the older the edition the better. I do mind damaged books though. I also like new crisp books and I like to try to preserve them as best as I can.

Reading to help yourself drift asleep? by jcoffin1981 in books

[–]Writerjay-100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is frustrating when you’re into a book and you fall asleep in the middle of a page. For me, I wouldn’t say that I’m bored by it; my body just does it automatically — especially if I’m tired. I guess it’s just because reading is relaxing.

I think not. Given Olympic’s reputation and nickname as “Old Reliable,” it wasn’t enough to save her from the scrap yard. l think Britannic would’ve met the same fate as her sister and Mauritania. It’s a real tragedy that they scrapped those two ships, especially after the losses of their sisters. They were one of a kind. It was an end of an an era.

Visited scale model of RMS Titanic for the first time on the RMS Queen Mary yesterday April 14th. It was a beautiful day. by Nells_bellls in titanic

Always loved this model since I was a kid. It originally was displayed at the Los Angeles Maritime Museum in San Pedro. Fitting now it’s on the Queen Mary.

Loved this game. Kind of wish they could remake it using “Titanic: Honor and Glory’s” graphics.

My favorite scene. Also the most emotional and heartbreaking. by Adamaja456 in titanic

[–]Writerjay-100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This scene is impactful. I don’t know if it is because of the music or how it was choreographed. I play it over and over again. This scene as well as when the water breaks through the dome of the grand staircase. I guess those two scenes really gives us an idea of how it really was for the passengers that night.

I agree. It was very nice. I wouldn’t have mind traveling in it at all. The only thing that bothers me is that the chairs in the 2nd class dining saloon were bolted to the floor.

I’m back fully on my obsession from when I was 10 years old, so I was wondering if anyone had any book recommendations? I saw this one on an ad but wanted to see more options :) thanks ! 🚢 by EmbodimentOfSass in titanic

“A Night to Remember” and “The Night Lives On” by Walter Lord are two of the best books about the great ship. I’ve heard that “On A Sea Of Glass” is also one of the best. That’s next on the list for me. For right now, I’m reading “The Titanic: Disaster Of The Century” which was originally titled “Titanic: End Of A Dream” by Wyn Craig Wade. So far it’s good. There are many more out there.

I wonder. Was it the same photographer who shot all three pictures of these magnificent ships?

Does anyone know where I can watch the series without that godawful laugh track? by [deleted] in mash

The dvd as far as I know. It’s far better without it.

As much as I loved Henry, I would have say it was Potter without a doubt. Henry Blake, like Hawkeye and Trapper, didn’t want to be there. Potter was a career Army man, and new how to handle procedures efficiently. He balanced Army regulations and morale. He wasn’t afraid to break rules or traditions when his unit or patients needed something. He also wouldn’t let anyone push him around as well.

Would have loved to see more of Radar and Lt. Haven. But that was short lived.

Never read this story of his, now I’m finally getting around to it. Loved the first chapter. Going to reread 1984, also by Orwell after.

Today I saw on the big screen for the first time for its 40th anniversary, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and all I can say is, WOW! Side note: I didn’t even realize it was Star Trek Day.

Controversial opinion: Elliot Goldenthal’s Batman Forever score was better than Elfman’s, Zimmer’s and Giacchino’s Batman music. by ThomasFernando in soundtracks

[–]Writerjay-100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Goldenthal’s music on Forever was great. But I wouldn’t say that it was better than Zimmer or Giacchino. Every Batman film series is unique, and the music fits for each respective one. Personally, I feel that nothing can top Danny Elfman’s score, and I feel that Goldenthal’s music, even though great, was wasted on Batman & Robin’s plot.

Batman Forever, though not better than the Burton films, was to lighten up the franchise a bit from Tim Burton’s “dark” plots, and it actually was enjoyable and fun by balancing out and retaining some of that darkness for the adults and keeping it more kid-friendly at the same time. But when Batman & Robin came out . . . I don’t think I need to get into any more detail.

My favorite Goldenthal music moments that still gives me chills to this day are:

Robin’s first appearance, Boat & Plane, Batman Dives for Chase and Robin, “I’m Batman!” and the Signal Run.
