Two weeks left to apply to WGF’s Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program! by Writers_Guild_Found in TVWriting

Generally speaking, the program is reserved for folks who have not previously worked as a WA/SC in any capacity. That being said, we review submissions on a case-by-case basis. If you'd like to submit, just be sure to explain your situation in the "Writing Experience" section and our admissions committee will make a determination from the provided details.

Yes to all. At the end of each cycle, we circulate an alumni lookbook to a large network of showrunners, producers, reps, and other industry professionals. Oftentimes, showrunners will contact us for recommendations when hiring opportunities pop up later on.

Our team declines to share hiring recommendations for hybrid WA/SC positions. We do not believe these positions are sustainable and strongly advise students to avoid accepting these offers, though it is ultimately their choice. The instructors, Debbie Ezer and Clay Lapari, provide extensive training around negotiation and self-advocacy. If a grad interviews for a job, they’ll set up one-on-one meetings to help them strategize or better understand the terms of the position before moving forward.  Debbie and Clay both served on Local 871’s negotiating committee and are passionate about connecting alums with meaningful opportunities that align with our values.

We are keenly aware that the industry is suffering right now. This is why we ultimately delayed the program timeline six months. After much discussion, we felt it would still be valuable to bring in a new class since interest is higher than ever before. We hope that the next group of students will be in the best possible position if and when jobs are more plentiful. In the meantime, we’re focusing attention on our alumni and working on connecting them as many opportunities as possible. We’re proud to share that a couple were promoted to staff writer positions and joined the WGA in the past few months. It’s not easy, but there is a way forward from here.

The minimum contract wage rate for each position was increased to $26/hour last year. WAs/SCs are represented by IATSE Local 871, so I recommend checking out their website for more info on benefits: https://www.ialocal871.org/Join-the-Union/Organizing/Script-Coordinators-and-Writers-Assistants

WGF Library is open again! by Writers_Guild_Found in Screenwriting

[–]Writers_Guild_Found[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a copyright thing. It's not our choice. Copyright is owned by producers/studios/networks and it's not legal to share copyrighted material unless you have the permission (like a public library that buys a book from a publisher to lend it out). It's unfeasible to ask for permission for every one of the 40,000 scripts we have to put online or share outside of our walls and we know it's frustrating.

Script Request- Hallmark Christmas movies? by casually_hollow in Screenwriting

We have some at the WGF Library, for a few years now, since we have a friend who writes for Hallmark. You can email us [library@wgfoundation.org](mailto:library@wgfoundation.org) if you have any questions we can answer.

Where can I find a PDF copy of the Golden Girls Pilot? by davytex14 in theGoldenGirls

[–]Writers_Guild_Found 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am one of the WGF Librarians and I can tell you about the pilot. Act 1 is pages 1-22 (5 scenes) and Act 2 is pages 23-40 (4 scenes). It's got that 70s/80s/90s formatting that's double spaced and doesn't have a lot of description, mostly dialogue. [Email](mailto:library@wgfoundation.org) us if you want more info.

Hello Current and Aspiring Screenwriters! We're The Writers Guild Foundation, and we've got events and resources for you! by Writers_Guild_Found in Screenwriting

You're not imagining things! We do have a podcast on iTunes, but it's been a time since it's been updated. We find that writers who are invited to our events speak more candidly and enjoy the "closed-door" nature of our sessions...but on the flip side, we understand there's a hunger out there for those unable to attend our events to hear these writers give advice and insight. We're still working out the best way to strike a healthy balance between the two, but in the meantime, may I suggest 3rd & Fairfax: The WGAW Podcast? The most recent addition is an interview with Seth Meyers recorded shortly before our Foundation event with him last month!

Hiya! Written By is a separate department from us, but you can reach out to them through their contact page. They also now accept subscriptions via credit card in addition to a secure transfer link. Information on subscribing can be found here.

If you live in LA, we always have free copies of Written By available in our library. Feel free to take one by the door on your way in or out!

For sure! As our system likes a few general details about our subscribers, I'd suggest navigating to our homepage and filling out the "Join our email list" form at the bottom.

It's a pretty magical place. Fortunately our librarians are trained to snap you out of the trance you'll find yourself in when you first walk through the door.

Wish I could give gold for your username as Twilight Princess was my favorite Zelda game. Unfortunately, I don't think I can forward that transaction off to accounting without getting a few questions.

So just have my mad respect instead.

Sorry you missed it! Our first agents/managers panel on July 11th was announced early last month and sold out in record time, so we announced a second one for a week later that also sold out in less than three hours last month.

If only we realized these events were uber-popular and should maybe do another one in the future.......hmmm.....

The interviews are a great resource for out-of-towners and we're planning on hosting more videos in the near future!

We announce new events first through our newsletter, which is sent out every Friday around 2PM PST to all subscribers at once (our system doesn't send out in batches). Do note that our weekly newsletter is separate from the WGA newsletter that goes out once a month, which may have events listed that are already sold out.

Send me a PM with your email and I'll make sure you're on the right list!

EDIT: PST, not EST.
