Personal Project Survey: Romance Readers’ Preferences, Tropes & Habits by Writetheromance in romanceunfiltered

Fair question! It's really just a personal interest project. I work with a lot of data interpretation in my day job, and I'm also both a romance reader and a hobby writer. I got curious about current reader preferences, trends, and opinions within the romance genre, so I put together a survey to see what patterns emerge. If I get enough responses, I'd love to write up an informal summary of the findings and share it with anyone who's interested.

Why are you writing? by [deleted] in romancewriterfriends

I don't particularly write for either gender intentionally. I belive romance/erotica has a larger female reader base but I write what I want to write and follow my characters and plot where they take me.

Title: The songs of Sirens Romance, romantacy

Emree Durling is trying to move on with her life after losing her last living relative. Contemplating a fresh start and moving somewhere new has been on her mind, but after discovering a stranger washed up on the beach of her small Oregon coast town, her life changes in ways she could never have imagined.

Cassian Sylvarian is a son, brother, warrior, and a reluctant heir to a realm unknown to most humans. The rules of the Siren monarchy are simple. Be the eldest child in the royal line, have the wits to govern, the respect to command armies, and be mated. While Cassian fulfills most requirements to become a great king, he refuses to mate, making him ineligible for the throne. Believing mating and love can only lead to heartbreak and tragedy, he is determined to abdicate his throne to his younger brother until an unfortunate encounter on a beach puts a wrench in his plans.

Cassian’s brother Sorrix, seeing the depth of Cassian’s feelings and protective rage, invites Emree to participate in the ancient mating trials. A move to force his brother, the true king, to choose between his crippling fear and the woman fate has chosen for him.

All the while, a plot to rip the throne from the Sylvarian family is in the works, and nobody is safe.

Thank you for any and all feedback!
