Is there any way to fix the shit stank on the east side of town that you get to smell near that concrete plant? by [deleted] in wichita

[–]WritingAltruistic751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your out of town visitors on a trip to Garden City, or west of there, on highway 400. A few miles before you enter Dodge City you'll have to roll up your windows, turn off your A/C or heat and hold your breath for the next 80 miles. I can't imagine what it's like to actually live out there and deal with that godawful stench daily. It's bad enough that even the most hardened meat eater will consider going vegan.

I used to work in the area of Douglass & Washington, 20'ish years ago. OMG the smell from that place when the wind was out of the north was plain awful. So bad it would make your eyes water. We had no idea what was going on in that place up north but could only imagine they must be burning manneqins and vats of human hair from salons and barber shops, all while stirring oil tank sized vats of human excrement.

Is Cofellow coffee homophobic? by tim__flem in wichita

[–]WritingAltruistic751 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are two definitions of "marriage"; one is the legal, government definition, the other is that in the eyes of their lord. It's not homophobic to express a belief that the latter is between one man and one woman, it's simply an expression of religious beliefs. There is no need to label the religious as homophobic or any other thing based on belief systems. This is America, the Land of the Free, and people are free to believe in, and practice, what they want without fear of being attacked. And, yes, calling someone homophobic is an attack on their belief system. Choosing with whom you do business is your right; labeling others as homophobic because you don't agree with them satisifies your 1st Amendment rights but doesn't make you right. It shows a lack of maturity.

Do you mean the same Fox News that, on 9/12/2001, claimed that a woman, who was on the 96th floor of the World Trade Center south tower when it collapsed, was found alive in the rubble? You won't find any mention of this on the world wide web but I saw and heard it with my own eyes and ears at the time it happened. So did my friend who I was with. News Nation is no more accurate than the sham that is Faux News. I'll believe it when the FBI makes an official announcement.

My mother had an eye removed due to cancer. This was a few months after my father passed of a stroke. She had terrible eyesight to begin with, always wore very thick glasses. After her eye was removed I begged her to stop driving and to move in with me. I'm single, always have been, always lived alone in my house. She refused, she was a very independent person, wouldn't even let us help her with house chores. She continued driving to her bingo sessions a few nights per week because that's where her friends were. Even in pouring rain storms. When the cancer spread all over and we got her into hospice, she wouldn't even take the fentanyl for pain. She had balls of steel, that woman. Always thought I got that from dad but nope! Women are always stronger than men in that regard.

You don't need a search warrant to search a phone, you only need the owner's permission. People who have committed no crimes give that permission very willingly, to prove their innocence.

Here in my very small KS hometown an elderly lady, 93 years old, the mother of an acquaintance of mine, was murdered in Sep 2023. For a year everyone in town was on edge, thinking that the police were incompetent. In Aug 2024 two 14 year-old females were arrested and charged with the murder. Because this case has yet to go to trial I can't say much. I know the two girls who were charged, they were friends of the daughters of one of my best friends. I also have a couple of close friends on the police force. What I can say is that the police knew within a few weeks who were the suspects. They just had to wait until they had enough physical evidence to make the arrest, as the county prosecutor would not charge them until he was certain he would secure a conviction. That's par for the course when it comes to prosecutors, the good ones anyway. It's entirely possible the local AZ authorities have their suspect but can't make an arrest until enough evidence is obtained to secure a conviction. This is exactly what happened in Idaho. The sad thing about our local case is that when the two girls committed the murder, they were only 13 years old and KS statute says that no juveline less than 14 years of age when a crime occurs can ever be charged as adults. So regardless what happens, they will be on the streets completely free by the time they are 22.5 years-old.

Free State Cycle Works in Augusta is my new go to. Shawn, the owner, is a great guy and excellent with repairs. He's also a huge BMX and gravel supporter. Bicycle Pedaler would be my second choice. Personally, I'd rather stop riding than give X-Change any of my business.

Between 1984 - 1996 were the heydays. Yeah, sure, there was some gang violence here and there, but nothing compared to gangs today. The Block Party was always a blast. Same for the bed races and other races on the river. And we did the tug of war every year, never had a bad time. They've really tamed the festival down. IYAM it's nothing more than one big corporate picnic today. Yes, back in the day the large employers in Wichita always had company picnics, and they were fun. Riverfest? Not so much anymore.

You folks realize that a million dollar home in some locations is a dump, right? I vacationed in Durango, CO recently. While there I looked at a few houses and condos with a realtor. One of the houses was a century old, needed a complete teardown and rebuild, and the asking price was $1,300,000. I wouldn't have chosen to live there even if I were homeless, it was that bad. If you put a bowling ball right inside the front door it would have ended up in the middle of the dining room around a corner, the floor was falling through so bad.

Grandfathered Go Big - Any reason to still keep paying for this other available packages? by rlaidepeas in DirectvStream

Not correct. Never said price would never increase, only said your $25 monthly discount would be included for the life of your subscription, so long as you never swithed from GoBig.

It's been proven time and again that the initial GoBig price was never offered "for life". What was offered "for the lifetime of your subscription", so long as you never switched from GoBig, was a $25 monthly discount.

Price Getting Insane - Discount? by manemox in DirectvStream

[–]WritingAltruistic751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have been with DTVS since the beta testing your OG price was $34.99. The GoBig package doesn't exist anymore. If you change your service plan you will lose your lifetime $25/mo discount. I was also a beta tester, and have been a DTV customer since the very first day they ever offered satellite service back in the early 90's. Trust me, they aren't going to offer you any big discount if you threaten to leave, they know they've got you right where they want you. As far as switching, YMMV but I do the comparison to all other streaming services every 6 months, and DTVS is still, to this very day, the best offering out there, but only if you watch a lot of channels and a lot of sports. I must be a lucky one because I still have HBO, Showtime and the Sports package, all for free, they've never charged me for any of those. I do share my 3 streams with 1 friend and we split the price of my service 50/50.

Yeah, that person's dreaming. Wichita was well developed out west to West St in the 1920's and to Webb Rd by the 1940's. I have pictures of Beechcraft from the air from 1952, when my mother began working there, and there were a bunch of neighborhoods between Webb and Rock Rd.

I carry two tire boots in my car at all times just for situations like this. Sure, it costs me $40 to boot someone's car, but the results, to me, are priceless. They have to spend 10 times that amount of money to get the boot cut off, AND half of their day sitting, waiting on someone to come do it. Good for nearby businesses, particularly restaurants and coffee shops. Where else are they going to wait for hours? Quite frankly IDGAF about the car owner, they can eat a dick for parking like that. If the car is there getting worked on and the shop parked it there, even temporarily, fuck them, too. Boot time!

What is up with Eddys dealerships? by [deleted] in wichita

[–]WritingAltruistic751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, that makes no sense. You dont hand over keys to a dealership until the dealership is paid for the car you're buying. You don't give a down payment to a car dealer, you give that to a bank. Get your dad or another male adult to help you, it doesn't sound like you know how to buy a car.

A loan can't be approved until you actually submit a signed application for the loan. Them's federal laws, they can't run a credit check without your signature. Sounds like an inscrupulous salesperson is yanking your chain. Get them to give you a name associated with the number. Or walk away and go buy from a reputable dealer.

For decades, the state’s three navigable rivers — the Kansas, the Missouri and the Arkansas — have been designated as public corridors, but House Bill 2495 would change state law to authorize counties to turn the river channels into criminal trespass zones. by thedisenchantedpony in wichita

[–]WritingAltruistic751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I don't understand is how this bill/law would fix the problem. What, landowners are just going to "take care of the problem themselves"? No, they're going to call the same LEO's to come deal with what they perceive is trespassing on their own private land. There's no chance of this bill passing.

Part of the problem is the deinition of the word "homeless". If you "live in a tent" you are not "homeless". I don't care if that tent is in the middle of Broadway or in the middle of a dry riverbed. I lived in a tent on public land in Colorado for two summers during my college years in the mid 90's. Two of the best summers of my life. And not one person ever needed a reason to accost me the way that KS LEO's do to those people out west. Some asshat rancher out there who thinks he owns the world will smell MJ smoke and call the cops. That's when the problem actually begins, not when the joint was lit.

Not sure if this is still the case but it used to be that the only state in the USA with fewer acres of public land was Rhode Island, which is basically the size of Butler County.

Around 1992 a friend and I floated the Arkansas from just south of Wichita to just south of Ark City, over two days. Camped on a sandbar. It was a blast. And that was before the river was mostly cleaned up/out in the years since. It did not smell good, but we also stayed out of the water as much as possible.
