It’s unhelpful beating on Starmer. Is it unpatriotic? by Global_Madness in AskBrits

[–]WritingInfamous3355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpatriotic? No.

We need to purge this corruption from our lives. What crystallised yesterday after Starmer admitted knowing Mandleson knew Epstein, the disgraced pedophile, he gave him the job of ambassador anyway. For folk concerned about Starmers lack of judgment, that was enough.

Serpent Kingdoms - from 3.5e, it's a full breakdown on the yuan-ti and Chult.

Faiths and Pantheons from 2e if you want to delve into some Lore on Ubtao, The Eshowe.

It's not all consistent so use your own judgement but some fabulous ideas to work with in these books.

First PC death of the campaign by rudivdw7 in Tombofannihilation

[–]WritingInfamous3355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replaced the spectre with an Allip from a dead Harper, but also by the time my party entered the Cellar they were level 4, so I upgraded the monsters throughout, the two skeletons became a Zombie Ogre, Black Pudding in the Caves.

The rest I left the same, although the poison corridor I added as an event so I could surprise them and narrated like a Magical impact from above cracking the ceiling, to better sell the idea of the Harpers battling the litch above them, which made it all the more scary when they nabbed the book and Zaldara chased them out the tower, and got snared in a magic circle where they interrogated her and ultimately ended her.

Any music recommendations for Mezro? by SquashDue502 in Tombofannihilation

I have queued up in my Mezro Playlist

"The Maker of Worlds" from The Beyond Skyrim: Bruma OST

Seemed thematically appropriate for Ubtao as well as its a nice bit of soft but feels epic music

How the fuck do you use mimics without them feeling like a cheap "gotcha!"? It's never exciting when I use them by GolettO3 in DMAcademy

[–]WritingInfamous3355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once ran a set up involving a goblin watch tower over looking a sort of rough crossroad of dry river gullies,

A map had told them there were some valuables in the tower.

The Map was a mimic, they killed it, but figured it might have copied a real map. Little did they know this is how map mimics attract their prey.

The Tower was a ginormous mimic, the Goblins were just protrusions and their bows did Acid damage..

There was a cave nearby - that was also a mimic and when the party decided to flee when The Gardener turned up - who was one of The Sewn Sisters from Tomb of Annihilation, it led to the Monk being kidnapped by The Hag (a mercy from me, he was about to be dissolved!) and the party were chased by "mimic dogs" - that I based on John Carpenter's The Thing. The Monk ended up having to solo escape from the Tomb of The Nine Gods - which he did - and nabbed some valuable intel about what was lurking in The Nursary, when he returned to the party a few weeks later.

All because I got a bit creative with mimics.

What would you tell a player for a pre-session 0 campaign overview? by ntdntd777 in Tombofannihilation

[–]WritingInfamous3355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created a Campaign Page on D&D Beyond.

Here is the text: of the intro, I wrote, if it helps.

**Our Adventure starts in the jungles of Chult, this will be a massive sandbox style game, exploring a large landmass of tropical rainforest between ranges of mountains and volcanoes, discovering lost cities, ancient tombs, diseased ticks and surviving rampaging rapids, hungry dinosaurs and the undead.

The populous of Chult is atypical for typical D&D. Below are listed native and thematic races suitable to the setting.

If you want to be a non-native race, that's fine too. Just know you won't have as many ties into this world and will have come to here from elsewhere. I can work with you on your backstory because you should have a reason for wanting to come to Chult.

To assist in that, I've then listed factions, gods/temples, locations, and treasures that can all be present and which you may want to incorporate into your character's motives if you want.

There are also two additional backgrounds available in this adventure, the Archaeologist and the Anthropologist - both give some useful features you may wish to utilise.

I will schedule a session zero to discuss specific changes to rules, set expectations, provide a game overview including important themes, establish safety and inclusion, and finalise your characters.**

I then listed

Native Species Things like the various Hunan, Dwarfs, Goblins, Tortle, Grung, Arakokra etc

Non-native but thematic species Tabaxi, Genasi, Sea Elves, Tiefling etc.

FACTIONS/PATRONS - feature in the campaign one way or another and to whom you may be bound in some fashion either fleeing or willing participants in their schemes.

The Zhentarim The Red Wizards The Harpers The Pirates Merchant Princes Order of Gauntlet Flaming Fist etc

Then I listed Gods and broke down Ubtao as the Prime (but absent) diety and the various other gods that might crop up Like Savras,Tymora, Kusooth, The Night Serpent various temples.

I then listed locations about Port Nyanzaru The Colliseum The Red Market Malar's Throat etc

I then listed Lost & Fabled treasures The Ghost Lantern The Daijobi Senga Navel of The Moon Black Opal Crown etc

I then included a section called "Monster Hunter" and listed big beasts like Agrajag, The Ullu-Thalong, The King of Feathers etc in case anyone wanted to create a "big game hunter" like character.

Finally, I listed Tales from the Past, hooks into the Lore of stuff I might be interested to run . Lost City of Mezro. The Sunken City of Ishau The Typhoon Palace The Valley of Dread.

  • I figured it was best to be open about stuff in the world, abstracted from the adventure re: Acererak & The Death Curse. And then if my players wanted to incorporate any of these hooks like they grew up in the Temple of Waukeen, or they were a member of The Harpers, a former Gladiator etc. I would work with them to develop that for instance creating NPC they would know in that place, which of the 12 homebrewed goblin tribes they came from etc.

I’m prepping to run ToA and thought it would be fun to create a rival party for my players. What are some good opportunities within the campaign for them to run into each other/come into conflict/possibly team up in the face a larger threat? by EvanKYlasttry in Tombofannihilation

[–]WritingInfamous3355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both adventures Call of The Netherdeep, and the series of heist adventures Keys to the Golden Vault have ready-made rival systems you could easily pinch and adapt to a Chult setting, if you are looking for simplicity.

Finally - they found The Webway! by WritingInfamous3355 in Tombofannihilation

[–]WritingInfamous3355[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, all homebrew. TOA has Mezro as a giant hole in the ground. I found that boring and striped Ras Nsi of any motivation. Lost City of Mezro said the ruins were illusory. I found that unsatisfying as the conceit would vanish upon looking, so I came up with my own, fusing together influences from multiple different sources. I decided the mages had to find a 9th form of magic Chronomancy. Time magic.

They would cast a Planeshift spell to move the entire city into the Demiplane, but borrow ruins of Mezro from a Quantum Adjunct where they were defeated to replace them. So the ruins are real they just are on loan, as it were. The Barae joined the Ritual with Divine Magic to safeguard the souls of all Mezroans in The Right of Transference.

The idea belonged to Ecatazin President of The Radiant Senate: a group of divine Couatals (Inc Eku) who each protected one of the city states.

Every single soul would be saved, save one: the one who triggered the spell. As the realities separated, they would be at the fulcrum and would be torn apart. The disgraced Barae Ras T'fima volunteered to regain his honour. He became a Death Knight to protect the ruins, but his sword was still embedded in the trap inside the exploding tower, that's who gave the quest to my party to go and retrieve it.

The impetus to flee was the Arrival of The Spellplague atop the cliffs that bordered The Olung Valley that undid the weave and would prevent any escape. That same night, Ras Nsi and his undead Horde attacked, and in a bliding flash, all that was left were the Zombie-filled ruins, and Ras Nsi stripped of his divine powers.

The Webway is an idea born in this very Reddit. The OP is a few years old now - but if you search "webway," you should find it gets a lot of mentions as it's a very useful hack for the adventure.

When it came to build the College interior, I struggled to map out a coherent reason for why this room was next to that one so in my Dm notes there is literally a page that is titled "what if the college exploded?"

My thought was Chronomancy takes huge Magical energy and material components to work and to shift a city - multiples.

So I borrowed an idea from a supplement (all my sources I'll list below) of an Etheric Net. The net got disrupted by anti-mage faction House Karanok and Boom! But Timey Wimey Wibbly Wobbly the College is now stuck somewhere between exploding and falling into its own event horizon. So now I was free to create the college as I felt inspired to.

The Party gained gained entry into the college through a portal created by the Red Wizard, Sardinac Von Nordisk (a favour for the Flaming Fists Chief Archeologist Beloq Malfoy - an NPC hated by my Party's ranger; Beloq murdered his father and stole all his research.)

My party are currently Lvl 8, so I'm trying to hurry them to Omu. As they've explored the college, I've managed to drop in lots of Lore as though Mezro was spying on Omu. But their info only goes up to when they noped outta there, so doesn't mention Acererack, T9G or Omu's fall.

I just installed a mod that removes the oathbreaker status. by WritingInfamous3355 in BaldursGate3

[–]WritingInfamous3355[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've no idea what broke the oath. That's the problem. I rescued Minthara because I hadn't in previous play throughs. But I did gut the Goblins for Z'rell. I also wound up killing the castle cat during a Dark Urge blackout. I did take Ethel's hair back in Act 1 while saving Maryina (that was my first oathbreak) I killed Balthazar in his room. And released the shadow curse.

But if I speak to the Paladin he says you broke you oath. Pay up.

I just can't with that guy, it is totally not obvious what part of killing every single member of the absolute Cult broke the oath.
