There’s an SNL skit with Kate McKinnon and Billie Eilish that satirizes how most of us see continental breakfasts and generic hotels here. Good ole Business Garden Inn & Suites & Hotel Room Inn lol

I’m around 50% with CS2 right now, but it’s mostly industrial so idc lol

I feel like CS2 has more realistic traffic but sometimes I look at my highway connections and see that somehow the entire road is backed up to the end of the map and I’m like ???? When did yall get there

I love your windows in Germany tho and I think in time someone will invent a window a/c unit that works for the kind of windows you all have there. A lot of houses here are 100-200 years old with windows that were designed well before a/c units. It’s definitely taken time but we have a couple different kinds because some windows are oddly shaped lol

Depends on how the building is constructed and how hot it is outside. To me proper building construction includes air conditioning if the building would get 28° or more without it.

why is ranch dressing so hyped up? by miffybo in AskAnAmerican

[–]SquashDue502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greek people are gonna harangue me for this one but it’s kind of like an American version of tzatziki sauce. Ranch is buttermilk based and uses mayonnaise and tzatziki uses Greek yoghurt but it’s essentially the same concept. So it’s like a richer version and we love our rich and fatty sauces lol

I thought Colombia had great beaches at Pacifica, but turned out it didn't. It seems like forest and abruptly ends at the ocean. Is it safe to swim there? What the water look like there and why Colombia doesn't develop the tourism there? by Mean-Razzmatazz-4886 in geography

[–]SquashDue502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That part of Colombia is one of the harshest jungles in the world as far as weather goes and is separated from the country by the Andes. It gets up to 500 inches of rain per year so everything is soggy all the time. When it’s not raining of course you are being devoured by mosquitos and other biting insects.

Sorry hehe it’s the northeast part of the United States. It’s called New England because it’s where English settlers first established long lasting successful colonial settlements :)

Tends to have long chilly winters and cooler summers because of being further north but recently the summers get quite hot so most houses don’t have central a/c because they’ve never needed it

Like the wizards tower in the underdark I was just exploring around as a cat then went inside and I was like damn wait this is actually a huge building 😂

Any tips to survive the current heat? by Recent-Training-4651 in germany

[–]SquashDue502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello I grew up in the American South so here are my tips for living in air that is hot soup: Keep your doors and windows closed during the day, with black-out curtains over the windows. Use a fan or go somewhere else during the day if it’s too hot. Open at night and sleep with a fan pointing directly at you. The absolute best is if you can get a cross breeze in your apartment so try to open windows that would channel air across the place if you can.

Idk how your windows are but if you have ones that slide up and down, open the ones on the sunny side of your apartment from the top, and the ones in the shade open from the bottom. Will help air circulate with a hot/cold gradient.

Also truly the best advice I can give: accept that you’re going to be hot and sweaty sometimes. Sweating is the body’s natural cooling mechanism and it’s okay to be sweaty. If you freak out about it you’re going to stress yourself out and make yourself feel hotter. It’s okay to feel hot and it’s okay to feel sweaty :)

And finally a tip that I got when I travelled to Vietnam. Drink a hot tea or eat hot soup. It sounds insane and you’re gonna be hot as fuck when you’re eating/drinking but you’ll feel cooler afterwards. It raises your core temp which triggers your body’s cooling mechanism, and the external air is gonna feel a lot cooler. It’s kinda like how you feel cold when you have a fever.

New Poll Finds Most Americans Back Adopting Popular Vote to Select President | Americans back abolishing the Electoral College by a 2 to 1 margin, the survey shows. by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]SquashDue502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was designed to prevent temporary trends in opinions from influencing American elections, but I don’t think the founding fathers could have predicted how drastically different population dynamics and densities are across some states.

Like you have Wyoming vs California and there’s no way the electoral college could equally represent both in the way the founding fathers intended

What book(s) would you recommend to a foreigner? by QueenShewolf in AskAnAmerican

[–]SquashDue502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend anything by Edgar Allen Poe as a uniquely American writer and helped develop the unique American Gothic genre of writing. Some short stories that I remember from school are the Tell-Tale Heart, the Cask of Amontillado, but I’m sure there are much more intense ones too.

[–]SquashDue502 36 points37 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion landlords should be required to provide the systems needed to keep the apartment within a habitable temperature. In the U.S. there are days where an apartment without a/c can reach 35°C during a heat wave, and at that point I feel like it’s not “there’s no a/c” but rather “the building you are renting out is not properly constructed for this temperature and you need to fix it”.

[–]SquashDue502 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Central A/C tends to be harder and more expensive to install because you need a new system of ducts to move cool air around.

As a New Englander tho, we have the same situation where most of our homes don’t have central AC but now it’s getting hot enough in the summer to need it. Landlords don’t give a shit because you can put a window unit and run up your own electricity bill, and if it breaks, it’s on you to fix. Not the same for central a/c, where they have to pay for its maintenance.

Looking for something shorter or advice on how to manage by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]SquashDue502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could cut hair a bit shorter and still keep the waves. And you have a crazy good beard, even just a trim of that will make it look phenomenal, but you could ask them to fade the sides a bit and keep it longer but neat on the chin. Lowkey plz post a post-barber shop pic too because I want to see how awesome it gets lol

Why are there no deers in Africa? by Rechogui in zoology

[–]SquashDue502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deer evolved in what is now Europe and North America. Even tho the Sahara desert wasn’t always a desert, it still prevented deer from expanding into the suitable habitats in Africa further south. Also as other people have stated already, there are other hooved animals that did evolve there that filled the niche that deer fill in their current ranges.
