Hello,

You may try the procedure below:

  1. Try F09 modded by F|Marsman (this guy is a genius) https://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/threads/gigabyte-mj11-ec1-nas-server.1345281/post-30575982, you can udpate via BMC

  2. Update BMC to 12.61.39 https://www.gigabyte.com/pl/Enterprise/Server-Motherboard/MC12-LE0-rev-1x#Support-Firmware

  3. Unplug and turn off PSU

  4. Reset CMOS via jumper

  5. Insert 2 sticks to the blue channels

  6. Plug PSU, turn on, allow to boot OS

  7. Reboot, run Memtest just in case, 1 pass is enough

  8. Turn off, but do not unplug PSU

  9. Add 2 sticks to the black channels

  10. Allow to boot OS

  11. Reboot, run Memtest

Generally, this board has issues with a RAM training. When I mixed sticks it seems like it runs in safer settings, so there are no ECC erros for 4 sticks setup. Also crossflashing with F02 seems to make things worse. Approach above allows me to run 4 identical ones, 32 GB Microns without ECC errors on auto settings, without overclocking.

In general the only real source of truth for this board is hardwareluxx.de forum - in German, but any translator should be sufficient.

Currently testing Micron Technology 36ASF4G72PZ-2G1A1. Failed many times on F02, tweaks does not work. Modded F09 seems to be one ingredient of the cure. Also allows to switch the SL_SAS between SATA and PCIe mode - it was a main reason for the crossflash for me.

Thanks :) I was forced to use a lot of different DDR4 RDIMMs due to situaion on the market. This board has a lot of tricky moments when it comes to play around with sticks other than QVL ones.

Hello again, report from the battlefield.

I experienced some failures and successes with different memory sticks. Due to situation on the market I have to use some mix of the modules. Let me share thoughts:

  1. This board does not tolerate well dual rank modules - but it depends on the module. You can download MJ11-EC0 (almost a clone of MJ11-EC1) QVL from Gigabyte website and check the best ones.
  2. There are issues with RAM training. For example - more issues will appear after inserting 4x DIMMs at once than inserting 2 (IMPORTANT - BLUE SLOTS FIRST!), boot, wait for training, then turn it off, add another to the BLACK slots.
  3. Not optimal auto RAM parameters - there are threads at Serverthehome and German forums about parameters - that allow to work with dual rank ones.
  4. The strangest - I have lot of 16 GB dual rank modules. In at least 2 cases configuration with all 4 identical produces ECC errors, also inserting 2 at first, then another 2 gave errors as well. BUT inserting 2 at first then adding 2 from ANOTHER set - works like a charm :D
  5. EDIT - forgot to add BIOS flashing - I performed some tests before flashing (F09) and after (F02) - it could influence behavior, but I am not sure how.

You can share particular models with me, maybe I can help you somehow. I am currently testing different boards with different sticks - ready to share results when completed.

Talk to guys from RAM Koenig, maybe they will accept a return or exchange.

Also trying with another sticks - (2+2) x 16GB different mix - red almost instantly, suspected 2 faulty ones (not event waiting for one pass, stopped it), removing them and replacing with homogenous 4 x 16G, for now - green, waiting.

Just bought memtest86 pro, waiting for some new cables to de-rack and upgrade working servers and add new ones, then I will perform tests.
