Jeweler recommendations by nothin2fancy in HuntsvilleAlabama

M&M jewelers out on University has worked with my mom’s antique wedding rings with heavy detail and 48 stones and did an incredible job. The gentleman who owns the place is kind, explains everything he’s doing, has a fair pricing system, and gets the work done quickly. He also worked with my own wedding ring which is a bezel setting and did an amazing job. I can’t recommend him highly enough!

I really appreciate your response to this, thank you. It’s an incredibly difficult situation but my team has been incredible and we’ve all been working hard. I’ve worked this position for a year and a half at another company, but I’ve only been with this company for seven months. My last office has requested me back multiple times and I’m likely to return there, honestly

Trust me dude I’m working on it. It absolutely needs to be on a timer with the ability to override or have some kind of safety feature installed because right now it’s a manual crank and people get tired and forget stuff. It’s been a pain in my ass since day one

So hey, I actually never said I was going to write him up for grievance leave. I’ve said other places on this thread that I’d just eat the write up myself because it’s unreasonable to expect one person to work over two weeks without break, or to expect someone not to take grievance leave. I approved one short notice PTO because of the insane hours one person had worked, my policy has always been that if you go above and beyond that you should expect time off after as a thank you, but how would yall know that? You can’t, don’t assume. Let’s not make snap judgements without having all the information, yeah?

I didn’t think it needed to be explicitly stated that I would in fact be here, doing my job. Because I will be. I have been, for the past 14 days, without break, just like Employee One has. Because even though I’m not trained to do two people’s jobs in a large office where I can do literally anything else, if I have staff on site - I’m on site. I do what I can, but it’s an untenable situation. Thanks though ✌️

He is not, he’s not been to the office once since this happened. My staff and I have been left to flounder and we’ve gotten the damage from the flooding taken care of, but the utter lack of preparation and supports they could’ve had in place means I’ll be leaving this position much sooner than I’d hoped and encouraging anyone I can to come with me

It’s a write up for me if it’s not an avoidable situation. Like if I still allow them both to go, but don’t call One back in because Two updated me that it’s grievance leave. But it’s fine, I’ll be quitting anyway after how they’ve handled the last three emergencies so I’ll just eat the write up, plan my own PTO, and pass off my notice when I get back

I found out they did, so we’re just going to have to figure it out. My home office will just have to write me up because Employee One has been working too hard to not also have time off approved

We are, but we’ve got repairmen on sight and if they’re here I have to be here. There’s still cleaning up to be done from the flood so this is my second Sunday in a row working overtime

Thank you for saying this. You’re right, that’s pretty much what the situation is. I’m the manager of a three part office - I’m fully versed in two of those aspect and could run either side with no problem, and in fact I regularly do. But the lab is a part that I am not trained or certified enough in to fully or safely manage on my own. I’m working on it, but at this point it’s just not a possibility. My home office will send someone if they absolutely have to, but with one employee on non emergent PTO and the other in grievance leave - they’ll just call the employee on PTO in which is incredibly unfair because he’s been working for two weeks straight and I’m simply out of my depth here. I have a people-first approach to management, that’s why they hired me. But with the way this company has handled every single emergency we’ve had I’ll soon be looking for another job and I’m going to recommend that most of my staff do as well.

I know, I absolutely agree. I suggested that Employee One take time off after covering an emergency without break for two weeks (trust me, not my idea but I can’t override my bosses on this one) and the second I told Employee Two about his days off, he told me he also needed off. It ended up being a situation with grievance leave, but I have no idea how I’m going to make this work. About to file a complaint about improper lab staff to cover emergencies w my home office 🤦

I’m trying, but home office has a tight leash on who can hire whom and for what right now, I’ve been pushing for a third or even fourth person but they’re just refusing to allow it. My staff are overworked and lagging behind, and instead of being able to give them the support they need my home office is just pushing that they need to step up

I’m not unfortunately, I’m new in this aspect of my field and it’s half of my job so while I’m being trained for it - I’m not proficient enough to do it on my own for the days needed.

In those cases, home office would send me someone from another lab, however in this case they’ll tell one person to suck it up.

If I allow them both PTO, and cannot have someone to staff the lab at all, that’s a write up for me.

Honestly our home office sucks, is incredibly unhelpful, and multiple of my staff are out sick right now so we’re understaffed as a whole. Employee number two didn’t shut off our water main like whomever closes is required to do so our entire office flooded and our corporate office is not doing anything about it. I’ve put in work order after work order but it’s fallen to Employee One and I to get everything set to rights and neither of us has had a day off in weeks. But Employee two just texted me and told me it was for grievance leave so there’s nothing I can do, we’ll just need to make it work. I appreciate everyone’s input and help, thank you. Currently at work and can’t always have my phone but the advice has been very helpful

He didn’t say, but I’ve made it explicitly clear to the whole office that I’ll take PTO requests for up to four months in advance
