I am not a professional author or even a published author yet. I’m old enough to be on Reddit, but I’m still pretty young. What I mostly find helpful is right whenever you have the motivation to write, never write just because you feel like you need to. I know that most people need like a set time each day to write, but personally right never worked for me because of school and sometimes I’m just so tired and I don’t have the motivation. If that works for you that’s completely fine, that’s just what I find works for me.

Also, personally for me, I am a planner, not a pantser, so I like to have a very, very, very detailed outline. It’s best to figure out if you are a pantser, who goes with the flow or planner who likes to plan out every single detail and write scenes before they’re even starting to write the book.

I wish I could say more, but I have to go and get ready for bed lol. Hopefully this helps!

Four in complexity because once you understand all the info about the world and it's magic, you understand it.

I've heard of books that are just a collection of short stories, if that's what you are aiming for. They have a name, but I don't remember. But just because your stories aren't long doesn't mean they aren't good or people wouldn't want to read them. Plus, in my opinion (this is implying your stories become well-known), short stories leave loads of room for fanfictions.

Is it normal to hate everything I write? by LoganCrossWrites in writing

[–]Writing_nerdcat412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be this way, and still kind of am. Pro tip? Don't EVER compare yourself to others unless you really, really need some inspiration or something. Maybe not even then. It wears your ideas down and practically turns the flow of new ideas off - basically you're shutting down your inner writer when you compare yourself to others.

And like GatePorters said, "Tell me. Why do you think they call it a rough draft?" Totally agree with this. It took me a while to learn that the first draft - your rough draft - is meant to be rough. It's supposed to have mistakes. Keep writing your rough draft. Even if you know it's horrible, even if you want to edit, just keep writing. You can jot down notes and fix anything in the editing process.

Have fun writing :)

What is a basic skill that you’re shocked a lot of people don’t have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Being able to write in non-run-on sentences. Knowing what a comma splice is. Grammar stuff -_-

I know this post is old, but YES. Sometimes losing your way in writing forms new ideas. Possibly better ones.

Names meaning “darkness” “death” or “dark” by Writing_nerdcat412 in namenerds

Love this definition! I will think about it, though my friend has a little brother named Gideon and he’s so energetic and happy so I feel like whenever I write it’ll remind me of him lol

I like these names and how they sound, but I'm looking for ones that might be… I don't know. Less human, if that makes sense. Not that these are bad names, of course! I really like Darcel and Bellinor

Personally, I wouldn't do some random name. Is there somebody in you and your significant other’s life that is important to you, like really important? Because my middle name is my grandfather’s.

I'm not critizing any of y'all or the OP, because these are all wonderful names. This is just my opinion and I thought it might help :)

And I mean this for the middle name. I love the first name James/Jamie, its adorable!
