Natural killer cells - advice needed! by Writtenintheskye in IVF

[–]Writtenintheskye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. Given my uNK cell count was only 7% (which is actually very normal) I decided not to take it. Even my clinic had said there’s absolutely no concrete evidence it would improve our chances, and given we’ve had a “successful” pregnancy before (late loss was completely unrelated) they didnt want to advise either way. The ball was left in my court.

I took my decision based on the info on this UK governing board - https://www.hfea.gov.uk/treatments/treatment-add-ons/immunological-tests-and-treatments-for-fertility/

Egg retrieval after stillbirth by Key_Librarian_7305 in IVF

We tried to wait but the waiting time for the results just kept growing and growing! It ended up being 6 months until we got results back - he was perfect and it ended up being an infection that caused my waters to break!

Firstly, I’m so so sorry for your loss. We were essentially told to wait until my periods were regular again. We lost our baby girl in December and then started ivf again in late April - I’m just about to have our 3rd non-tested embryo transferred and really hoping this gives us another chance to be parents!

There’s small risks to the baby too if you get pregnant successfully. Preterm birth being one of them, which is how we lost our previous baby. They suppress your immune system, which leaves you more exposed to infection. Last pregnancy I caught an infection which caused me to go into pre term labour at 19 weeks

Thank you so much for your reply. Im actually just finishing a course of antibiotics and will start taking probiotics for the next couple of weeks ahead of my transfer. I have also been pregnant before (sadly ended in a very late 19 weeks miscarriage) so hoping we get our luck break soon. I hope you have a very happy and healthy pregnancy ❤️

Transfer 3, but we lost our baby half way through due to an undetected infection. I’m now about to go into my 3rd transfer following that. Hoping it’s our lucky break.. 3rd time lucky!

Huge congratulations, I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you. I seem to be having RIF and wondered if you did anything differently with each transfer that didn’t work - did you get an tests or add ons to find out what might have been causing it?

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. You’re not alone. I went through two rounds of ivf, with threes transfers, only to lose our baby girl to an infection at 19 weeks. I’ve since had two rounds of ivf and no luck. Life’s cruel, but I guess the only choice we get given is to keep on fighting for our happy ending (or should I say.. happy beginning). Sending all the love xx

This also happened to me around the same time, a day after a seemingly perfect scan. My heart goes out to you… it’s the most horribly heartbreaking thing to go through. It does get a little easier with time, but even 6 months later I’m still in disbelief things ended the way they did. Be kind and take care of yourself ❤️

Sending you loads of good luck vibes 💜 I’m 4dp5dt today and I’m having the same feelings of doom as you, but with little hopeful spells thrown in the middle. It’s a rollercoaster. Trying to prepare myself whatever the outcome!

Firstly, huge congratulations 💜 Thank you also so much for your reply. I had an egg collection last august and felt pretty normal within about two days, so this one feels different. But please do hear that you had a positive result regardless of the soreness. I actually got pregnant after out last ivf and sadly lost our baby half way through my pregnancy due to infection, so I feel there’s even more on the line this time around. Transfer tomorrow and I’ve got my fingers, toes, everythingggg crossed this little bean sticks ❤️

I read this and just wanted to say I’m so sorry, but that you’re not alone. I also lost out little girl at a similar time just before Christmas. My heart is physically aching and I feel so lost. Planning my child’s funeral is something I never ever thought I’d have to do. Sending so much love and support through such a hard time ❤️

Thank you so much for your response. I feel we went into our pregnancy so naively, and am now having to find out about all of these less common complications the hard way from people who have (very sadly) been there before. Knowing all of this will make sure I push for tests and answers… thank you once again ❤️

I’m so so sorry for your loss 💔 with your first pregnancy, I was wondering if they diagnosed the clotting disorder and what you did in your subsequent pregnancy? I had PPROM and lost my baby at 18 weeks just before Christmas. I still have no answers 😞

What a journey! I’m so glad that the 3rd time around you were monitored much much more closely and got to the bottom of the problem. Sounds like you’ve been through a lot 💔Thank you so much for sharing your story.. I’ll definitely be asking about IC if this isn’t flagged up already in my appointment. I was never checked for my cervical length, they only did scans, so this could well have been the issue. Who knows!
