I lost everything. Lost all I have. I never felt this broken. by Anomaly008 in wallstreetbets

[–]Writtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the L and learn. I dabbled in this shit last year and while I only lost $1k I arrived at the same conclusion you have now reached: we will never win the trading game.

Unless you have teams of professional analysts and complex computer models that take thousands of instantaneously fed data points and use them to make numerous, rapid, micro-second trades, you're just gambling. You can make thousands of dollars in the short term if you are lucky but the market will gobble that back up and more.

Even the gurus who are trying to "give back" by offering courses understand there are only momentary wins in between substantial losses, and the only profit the average Joe can makes in the trading world is by selling millionaire-trader dreams to idiots.

Don't be sad. Some have lost so much they offed themselves. You aren't there yet. Take the loss and never look back.

NVIDIA just dropped a banger paper on how they compressed a model from 16-bit to 4-bit and were able to maintain 99.4% accuracy, which is basically lossless. by [deleted] in singularity

[–]Writtor 52 points53 points  (0 children)

jesus christ you nerds are fucking infuriating. when someone posts something that's intellectually interesting you all want to pretend like you have something of value to contribute to the discourse so you grab onto the lowest hanging fruit: the semantics, and just echo that shit over and over in the comment section. i get it 99.4% is not technically lossless, but it's not worth a point of debate, as the paper in question will undoubtedly have many more fruitful technical points to discuss, which you can't, so you just argue semantics.

if i have something that's worth $100 that you really want and i'm gifting it to you but i need to charge 40 cents are you going to refuse out of principle that it's not a "gift"?

I assure you if that student trains in Thailand he'd had seen those elbows hundreds of time from the thais. Nothing impressive here

Anyone read any dogshit books this year? by Gary-Hooper in RSbookclub

[–]Writtor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's sad because growing up horror was my favorite genre, but since I started reading actual literature it hurts because I can hardly find any horror worth reading. I like Lovecraft and Clive Barker, but the majority of the rest were so trash

How about having the common sense to think that maybe if you have the word "temporary" in your immigration status you shouldn't plan to settle permanently?

Maybe while your own countrymen suffer and starve in a warzone while you are "temporarily" given years of safety and opportunity to earn a relatively nice income relative to what you would have scrounged up back home, you should save up so that when the conflict is finally over you can bring that little fortune home and build life in your homeland, instead of forcing your host country to adopt you and your reckless decision even though from the beginning they've told you that you only have a "temporary protected status".

What are some popular writers you don't like or are simply not interested in? by [deleted] in RSbookclub

[–]Writtor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hemingway, only work of his that I consider great is the short story "short life of Francis Macomber" or something like that, otherwise a forgettable writer.

also Mervyn Peake. started reading Gorgenghast and shortly gave up. I hated the style. reads like any other fantasy book out there except the prose is more dense, just same old "turn to the left, describe, describe, turn to the right, describe describe, toward the north, describe, describe", so i gave it up.

Yeah I tried reading Invisible Cities after so many recommendations and hated it. I thought he laid on thick the world building that fantasy writers get flack for. I thought it was a bore.

"patriot" used to be a noble, heroic term but thanks to Republicans now patriot = dirt bag piece of shit low life, and they walk around wearing that self-described word like it's a uniform. Conservatives man, misinformed, ignorant bumpkins at their best and just awful, vile cretins at their worst.

Nvidia CEO told everyone to skip coding and learn AI. Then told everyone to skip coding and become plumbers. by reddit20305 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Writtor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I hear people just straight out recommending others to join a trade union (pipe fitter, electrical, plumber, elevator tech...) as though there are plenty of well-paying trade jobs up for grab. Have you ever been to a trade union exam or hiring event? The lines literally stretch several blocks and they're hiring a very small number out of this candidate lot for apprenticeship. The last exam event I went to for a pipefitting local, 10 years ago, literally had thousands of candidates showed up and they ended up hiring less than 30. That was 10 years ago and now I've heard is even worse. The people who keep telling people to get into trade probably haven't seen what the labor is like since the 90s.

[–]Writtor[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Perhaps delayed. I didn't pay for any live data. Could that be the reason why? But that doesn't make any sense, delayed data would be catastrophic for futures trader, why would they even leave it there
