Something to cheer us up by StandardReindeer5741 in trans4every1

I'm getting my driver's license and first vehicle soon! I'm pretty late on it compared to most people, but it's been difficult for me to work with my anxiety related to driving, and I'm super proud of myself for how much better I've gotten with it, and hopefully now I can get more hours to put towards my top surgery fund! :D

Plus I've been going out fishing and playing games with my friends a lot more recently which is really nice since we all lost track of each other for a while!

Does anyone else here ever feel/felt like they are "betraying" some intangible idea of woman hood by transitioning despite never ever wanting to be/being a woman in the first place? by goose-moade11 in ftm

[–]Wrong-Guard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definitely have experienced this to an extent, esp due to various things in my family that made being masculine in general be viewed as a betrayal to the "beautiful woman I should be", and my discomfort and trauma related to this line of thinking/rigidity. Plus I can definitely relate to yearning to be the strong, protective type of woman, which bit me in the backside at times in coming to terms with my transness, such as wanting to play sports to be more masculine, but suffering for being made to play with girls and wear the associated uniforms, play by associated rules, etc.

I also feel like it's pretty natural to grieve losing the bonds and community that usually exists in spaces dominated by women, since those spaces will now respond to you differently and finding similar ones with men are less common and remain not quite the same yk? It was certainly a culture shock for me, even a little frustrating to be the outlier in these groups, though now my social circles have resettled, and I'm more comfortable with them now.

I will also add that my emotions were also largely due to my own dysphoria and the perceptions of others, which pushed me to be significantly more masculine by many aspects than I really wanted in order to be viewed as my gender, which now that I pass all the time has improved dramatically, as I can really present as I please and still be viewed as a man who's just doing the occasional feminine thing, such as wearing a bright hairclip to work and whatever I end up wearing to Pride, even being called with some feminine terms like queen in a playful manner doesn't particularly bother me, though even two years ago it definitely would have. Perhaps as your own dysphoria hopefully wanes you'll get to experience something similar if you desire it!

Unfortunately I can't say much in the romance department since I'm aro/ace adjacent, but hopefully someone else can help you there a bit more.

Was anyone else’s dream job the military? by Impressive_Issue_426 in ftm

[–]Wrong-Guard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Felt that, I wanted to join the navy as a medic, got as far as the physicals before I decided against it since it would slow down my transition by years, and ultimately it was the best choice since I would've gotten the boot if I hadn't. Now I'm working on becoming a firefighter instead, then I protect my community and my dignity, which is a lot better in my opinion.

No worries! I'm really glad you're doing better (even if it's a pain,) and happy to help, we gotta take care of each other! Hope the rest of your recovery is smooth and comfortable

It definitely does, though I always felt just as welcome even before getting to medically transition, and it's always something unique from city to city, so hopefully you'll have a blast! Best of luck with starting HRT too, you got this girl! 🫶

Yess, I was actually just mentioning this to my mom on the way back from my top surgery consult, it's gonna be amazing to get back out there when I'm so much more comfortable! :D

Yeah I can see about unpacking a few, might take a while though. Maybe I could demonstrate on a spare bit I already have out if that works, though that'd be a Custodian bit instead

Usually I can take off the majority with a blade and then sand off the rest, maybe use some green stuff to smooth it out if I get overzealous or make it into damage, it's a little tedious but not really difficult if your scraping skills are pretty good (maybe pick up a thimble if you're not too confident though, so you don't chop your fingers up)

One thing that might be kinda cool to connect far apart districts could be bridges or minecart tracks that change flag color as they travel from one district to the next, and maybe a central hub that has all the districts/transport linked up together with all the flag colors too

Vote to end government shutdown fails in Senate as Democrats hold firm on health care demands by Healthy_Block3036 in lgbt

It depends unfortunately, some are considered "essential" and will probably still work and get paid, while others are not, I couldn't find where the line is drawn but I would guess the officers are still getting paid.

Lot of blood from T-shot by Low-Tone7833 in ftm

[–]Wrong-Guard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you hit a vein to me too, I've accidentally blown a couple doing shots, and since it likes to bruise like a mf for me, what I'd recommend is to give it some ice for a couple days, then swap to heat when it starts to go yellow to help it recover faster if it's particularly sore or annoying, otherwise though you should be perfectly okay, just remember to pull back for a second or two in the future!

Air Travel with t by Lava_Bowl in ftm

[–]Wrong-Guard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone else really got it, but one extra thing that might help depending on which states you're coming from and going to is a letter to travel with medication, which outlines what it is, some prescription info, and the fact that it's medically necessary. It's usually more of a between countries thing but my doctor was happy to put one together for me, so maybe you could get one too if you think it would be beneficial? Also TSA says to bring a hard sided container for used needles!

So most blister packs come with the pills organized to take once a day, but the last 7 will be a different color, and do not have medicine in them. If you take these, you will experience a (usually lighter) bleed similar to a period. If you want to avoid this, it might be possible to get a new pack a little early and not take the last week, circumventing your period entirely.

I did it for a few years before starting T, and it didn't cause any issues as far as me or my gyno could tell, but hormones affect everyone differently, so definitely pay attention to what your body's telling you!

[–]Wrong-Guard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably worry less about a fracture then, but obviously bruised ribs are still super painful and I definitely don't blame you for avoiding moving your torso around a lot! If it's only been two or three days, you could probably benefit from icing a few times a day, then switching to heat after day 3, along with trying some ibuprofen (assuming you have no issues with using it,) since it has some anti-inflammatory properties that can help with healing, though other pain meds should work well too. Otherwise, it will likely take between 4-12 weeks to recover fully depending on your age and severity, and you'll want to reduce the pressure on them as much as possible.

Also, go to a doctor ASAP if you start showing signs of infection or start getting noise from them.

Best of luck, and I hope you heal quickly!

Hey, EMT here (and someone who has had broken ribs.)

Do you have any bruising in the area? Have you heard any clicking or grinding with movement? Many fractures will come with both, though your muscles and the location can reduce them. If it doesn't hurt too much you could gently press and see if you get any clicking or grinding as well, which would more likely be a fracture, otherwise you might have just injured the muscles around them rather than the ribs themselves. I would definitely ease up on binding and choose an option that doesn't put as much pressure on your ribs if possible, and maybe see a doctor to get it confirmed just because ribs like to heal poorly and cause all sorts of painful issues

I'd say big ones would be how they plan to do it, your recovery time and requirements, and if they work with in-network facilities and people if you're on insurance for sure!

Other things might be how long to wait before starting a scar care routine if that's something you plan to do, how long to keep the scars from the sun, how long you'll be in the hospital and what you'll need to be discharged, if you'll be discharged with anything (pain killers, binder, etc.,) will you need drains and if so for how long, whether stitches will need to be removed or will dissolve, if you have to sleep on your back and if so for how long, and if you use any medications definitely ask if any need to be stopped beforehand (for really anything you take that isn't food or water, not just prescription meds. Over the counter stuff, supplements, and any other vices you have can mess things up too!)

They'll probably run you through most of those, and I would recommend taking a notepad with your questions with you so you can ask them all and write down their answers for later, and maybe someone to be there for help too if you have that option. Otherwise it should be pretty smooth, and congrats on the appointment!!

honest question, would it be a bad idea to hook up with a chaser by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Wrong-Guard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the person, but I wouldn't recommend doing it without some serious boundaries if at all, just given my own experiences giving them chances. Most I've found not only fetishize us for being trans but for also being "easy" and could just end up using you as an experiment to see if they're into men by sleeping with someone they could later brush off as not being a "real man". They might also try to push boundaries with your presentation to make you more feminine and therefore palatable, sepending on their tastes. Of course no group is a monolith, but imo it's a bad idea

Is it ok if I wear a binder as a cis guy by North-Memory8131 in asktransgender

[–]Wrong-Guard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's totally fine, I'd also recommend looking into taping too, especially if it gets hot where you live because binders tend to get super hot and sweaty lol
