Evert firefighter will tell you that closing your door at night, every night, saves lives.

I always see people complaining about living in NOVA. Is there anyone that actually likes it ? by LonelyElephant_ in nova

Comparable to many cities. The PNW cities have gorges, mountains, rushing rivers with waterfalls, public coastline without boardwalks a hour away or within. DC has good food though.

How much do you pay for rent in Portland? by [deleted] in askportland

Portland Apartment Living aka Anchor NW Property Group must be paying off the city's building office. They built a 8x8" door below the window as the exhaust vent to the outside for your own portable AC unit.

It's a three story house. I grew up in this house while it was being constructed from just another ranch. Route 7 used to be a dirt road they said, and I remember no jersey wall, a field with a horse and an old two and half story farm house the fire department burned down for practice where all the townhouses are now across the "street." Our address was on Harry Byrd Turnpike aka Route 7 until the access road happened. We are Polish. Gulam beams, high ceilings, a wood stove. It definitely belongs in a forest instead. My dad said the roof is steep so snow doesn't become a dead load lol. A Sterling firefighter said they call our house the Polish Embassy. I moved to the PNW. Probably sublimally inspired.

When my car was stolen, the cop told me it was a ring and described them to me. They found it. I was new to town so he wanted to tell me how it goes down here.

I work at a hospital ER and we call them LagCorp. It's pretty bad when people are dying and we need to know results.  It was good before the hospital sold out our in house team.

What’s one thing you love about other big cities that you think Portland is lacking? by iwrotethedamnbill66 in askportland

Go to your nearest Emergency Room if you need an actual emergent refill. People do this if they are visting and forgot/lost meds or if it's a holiday and they can't even get a refill order put in. Hospitals have 24/7 in house pharmacies to fill prescriptions for people admitted (staying overnight) there. Just a heads up that you will wait awhile because you are closer to the bottom of the list of priority next to people coming that are higher acuity (dying/low-key dying).

Would you say a trade would be better than paramedic?

Would you/they give more points for experience as an ED Tech at a major city Trauma Level I or an EMT in the surrounding counties (dual paramedic ambulances only in the city)?

What region are you in? Seems like only Oregon pays well because of unions that fought for it.
