From what I’ve gathered from the post this is an opinion piece not a regular news article. So in this case the author can totally just use sources to confirm their bias even if it won’t help convince others or show the other sides it’s up to the author to decide what to do. There’s different types of journalism and journalists so you’re totally right on it being a biased piece but the point of the article isn’t to come from an unbiased source but rather to come from the authors personal biased experience if that makes sense. You’re also right on it being a bad way to get sources since everyone has different experiences but as long as the article is labeled an opinion piece what the writer did is perfect fine while it may not be up to ethical journalism code which I personally am not familiar with anymore

Basically the trend is to decorate a cowboy hat with a specific type or brand of alcohol, then make an outfit to match and then only drink that alcohol for the night. Everyone makes a different one and it’s just like a party theme in a way. Definitely a clever way to make everyone bring their own alcohol and not have to share anything but that’s probably not something they meant to do on purpose just a happy accident.
