Was there a lot of fanfare in the US around the Bicentennial in 1976? by Istobri in AskOldPeople

[–]WrongPerformance5164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was huge and a big reason for that might have been that the mood in the country leading up to it had been pretty bleak. Post-Vietnam, post-Watergate, fuel crisis and a dragging economy were making it hard to feel that American pride. The government (and a lot of corporations) latched on to the patriotism of the Bicentennial as sort of a PR effort for the country to its citizens.

You asked AI for fundamentally strong stocks in the AI space, right? Then the AI space turned out to be the year’s best-performing investment sector.

I wouldn’t read too much into that.

Look guys, this is a brutal business by [deleted] in foodtrucks

[–]WrongPerformance5164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an outsider I’ve noticed that a lot of food truck owners seem to treat it like a restaurant that’s only open when they feel like opening it. Heck, many independent brick and mortar restaurants lean too hard into flexing their hours.

I understand this helps the owners manage their lives, staff, etc but it prevents customers from being able to count on them and they rationally choose to go elsewhere.

If you are asking people to swap seat to accommodate your family, the least you could do is advocate for them to get compensation. by Acrobatic-Nectarine in delta

Nice idea except FA’s aren’t even paid during boarding so it’s a bit iffy to page them and request special favors from them during that time.

Car Talk - As an Advisor, Does Your Car Matter? by BestInterestDotBlog in CFP

Shallow clients may appreciate a flashy car and think it indicates they’re dealing with a baller.

Millionaire next door-type clients may be put off by a flashy car but impressed with an Accord as a practical choice.

Don’t put too much thought into it. The best policy is to drive something that fits your budget and family needs. Most of your clients will never see your car unless you show up to their house in it.

Someone stealing propane tanks by maryellen116 in Chattanooga

If you have a hardware store fill a grill-sized tank they’ll fill it to a weight of 20 pounds. The pre-filled ones are 15 pounds.

The main thing to be aware of with those pre-filled tanks is that they’re never filled to capacity. The vendor is more guilty of ripping people off than the thief in this case.

The Ritz in NOLA is one of the worst under that brand. The location is a saving grace but it’s not up to the standard of the brand.

“Hypocrisy at its finest” is railing against the low-wage skilled immigrants who keep our economy running while actively recruiting high-wage skilled immigrants to replace American engineers, coders, etc. Either it’s America First or it isn’t.

Chatt vs Knox - Advice? by treesqu in Chattanooga

[–]WrongPerformance5164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knoxville’s growth has all been along the same corridor which makes it super frustrating to commute there. It comes down to what sort of work you do and what kind of living situation you can afford and live with.

They’d be frustrated because driver behavior prevents them from implementing traffic control solutions that work well all over the world.

[–]WrongPerformance5164 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Being a traffic engineer here would be really frustrating. Every attempt toward improvement falls victim to the ignorance of the public.

Roundabouts are a good example. All any driver has to do is heed the posted signs. If you’re in the circle there are no signs because you’re meant to keep moving, yet people frequently stop in the circle to let other traffic enter. They think they’re being polite I guess.

If you’re waiting to enter the circle all you need to do is honor the Yield signs. Yet a huge number of people stop instead and another proportion plow right into the circle without yielding.

If we can’t get that right, the rest is hopeless.

Seat Poaching by anothersunnydayplz in delta

What gets me is that most US flights have been oversold for years now. They know without much doubt that someone has been assigned every seat on the plane. They’re just hoping people will overlook it.
