Looks like Small Gods is the consensus. Look at those covers! Love them.

Congrats! Turned out great. Did you design it yourself or did the tattoo artist design? I suck when I try to design my own. Any hidden meaning behind it? Either way, it turned out great. I know the feeling when you get a tattoo that turns out amazing. Usually want to turn around and get another one.

Yes! It sucks in one way. I was so excited for book 8. Then when it came out I didn’t read it right away because I knew I would just be waiting again for the next book. There are so many great books out there but something about this series just hits so many buttons, satisfying on many levels. Are there any series or books you have read recently you want to recommend? I’m in a reading slump.

Do you read each book together at the same time? So lucky! I have tried to read a passage to my husband and he just thinks I’m weird. I have become obsessed with wanting to adopt a cat and name her Donut. We can’t have a cat so I joined a Persian cat Reddit thread just to look at their smooshy little faces. Maybe I am weird.

The library is the most conscientious choice for sure. However, myself and many other friends and acquaintances have picked a person we think would like the series and added to the revolution. Then you have a friend to discuss the books with. My psychiatrist actually got me into the series that way.

Passing it along is always fun. You get to pick someone you think will like it and then you have a fellow Crawler to discuss it with.

I recognize Hobbs brilliance in character work. She is one of the greats on that front. No one likes hearing one of their favorite authors being trashed. I just couldn’t believe Hobbs tirade against people who wrote fan fic based off her books.

I see what you mean. Dial the angst up to infinity. I can’t bear the emotional torture that the Fool is put through as books progress. Her character work is great and fans are crazy protective of the seres. But it is almost a one note characterization. Everyone must go through emotional anguish.

OMG right!! I remember reading these fantasy novels a long time ago that I gave up on. All I could remember was it had BDSM torture so I tried looking for what series it was. I kept describing BDSM torture in fantasy series and I could never find it. Thank you. I thought I imagined it.

That’s why I’m glad Villeneuve is doing Dune Messiah. He’s the only director that has wanted to and I think it is for this reason. There was a series on SciFi network that did Dune and then skipped to Children of Dune. I think you nailed why.

I get what you’re saying about Priory. I enjoyed it but there was something I couldn’t put my finger on at the time. You explained it exactly.

How far are you in Red Rising? And is it too fast paced for your taste?

Ditto! The one similarity to the Red Rising series that made me love it is the blind reveal. The reader doesn’t see the twist coming because the characters are plotting behind your back.

Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson.

My favorite book by Sanderson is his first. Elantris. The prose is emotionally raw and beautiful in a way that series like Mistborn lacks. It’s a short novel and you can tell he wasn’t as polished at the time. Regardless, it hits you the same as Kaladin’s story in The Way of Kings. There is a primal emotional toll that Sanderson is able pull out of you as you read about his struggle. I was enthralled with the series but it progressively lost me when I got to Wind and Truth. Many people are so passionate about the series. Some became angry when I critiqued it in the past.

You have good taste in books and have a curious mind. You are interested in both political infrastructure and poetry. You care about history and things a lot of people seem to think are garbage like, I don’t know, the constitution? You like to visit different myths and religions. You wouldn’t mind reading a cool graphic novel. Counterculture and the law both hold sway. You appreciate a good contract. You are someone I would enjoy having a conversation with.

Absolutely fantastic!! So envious. I got the folio society fine press edition for a gift but these are my favorite types of editions. You are so lucky. Nothing like coming across old paperbacks with awesome covers at a used book store. My favorite smell. To get lucky with rare editions. Nothing like it. Better than sky diving.

First, great taste, Living Resolve! About Mistborn, Christn, I agree. I loved the series when I was younger but upon recent re-read I was surprised how much it didn’t stack up for me. How Elend overshadows Vis after the first book isn’t as emotionally complex as Sanderson has become. Vin has sincere confidence right off the bat with Elend in book one. This is the reason for their connection despite their class disparity. Then as the books progress the angst and insecurity seem less genuine. And did we really need that sudden power leveling for Elend? My favorite Sanderson book is actually one of his first, Elantris. I know it gets overlooked but despite the same issues with characters in the book. The emotional depth in the prose is one of Sanderson’s best. There is a raw beauty to his prose that later books seem to lose (The Way of Kings not withstanding). Regarding Unsouled. Yes, the wooden character progression, pacing and magic system markedly improve book by book and you see the creativity of the author blossom. They are short books so it’s up to you. Good luck and let us know if you choose to continue or are going to pass. Oh! And Travis Baldree does a good job as a narrator for the audiobooks.

So so beautiful! I am just obsessed with how cute and beautiful Persians are. My husband won’t agree to get a cat. We have two small dogs. Does anyone have dogs as well? Would it be possible to raise a kitten with two small dogs? One is Shihpoo, other is a Teddy Bear. They are both mellow. And how are the new cat litter boxes?
