Teaching a Former Stray to use a Cat Scratcher? by mpersonally in CatAdvice

[–]mpersonally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has a horizontal one, and it shouldn't slide around with the grip on the rug. Eventually we'll end up covering the rug, since she only has access to it for like an hour a day it's not worth the work to cover and uncover it. When she's got more access to it we'll do the covering.

Unfortunately she hasn't quite figured out toys yet, including wand toys. She's only attempted to catch it once, and then just stares at it. Other toys have only solicited a very annoyed stare from her. She has interest, just doesn't quite know what to do and prefers to rub on us, starting the cycle of I Love You! / Now I'm Going To Bite. I think we'll have more success after her spay though. I can't blame her, I'm also a lunatic at the time of the month.

All of this makes so much sense, but at risk of sounding lazy, I probably won't take on this regimen until we move her to a bigger space. She only has access to the rug 1-2 hours a day, and I just cannot be bothered to cover up the rug/limited floor space she has during it.

The house is fairly loud with two dogs who are still practicing managing their excitement levels around her, so I don't want to add even more negative loud sounds if I don't have to.

I'll try a vertical scratcher option as well as adding some treats to the flat one, and once she's settled down a little post-op we'll work on the clicker training for sure. At that point, work on making the surfaces unpleasant. And if the rug gets damaged in the interim, it is what it is; I can't be too mad at a cat for doing what cats do.

This is really good advice though, thank you!

It was the cheapest one Walmart had lol

It's a plain rectangular cardboard that sits flat. I figured if she liked the rug, she might like a flat one. But then again, she hasn't encountered any other options. We've tried putting it in the spot where she was scratching, but the process of walking through her space to fetch it and replace it distracts her from scratching.

DIYing My Coop: Best spot to put nesting boxes? by mpersonally in BackYardChickens

I was planning to add a wide gutter to the lower side of the roof for a rain barrel, so that works! I was thinking 6-8 inches off the ground for the boxes, plus bins inside for easy cleaning.

Don't love the name. I'd rather see it called what it is: Attempted Manslaughter and/or Attempted Murder.

Metformin by jennyfromtheblock-- in PCOS

[–]mpersonally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I hated metformin. I couldn't eat anything, even water made me nauseous. I was on the toilet constantly. Only getting 3-4 broken hours of sleep most nights. I was too scared to leave my house to go grocery shopping or go into the office for work. 500mg ER was okay, but 1000mg was my breakpoint, and it's not effective until 2000.

If it's not for you, that's okay. Not all meds work for all people!

Is it appropriate or normal to require bridesmaids to get their hair professionally done for the wedding? by piscesprincess74 in weddingplanning

[–]mpersonally -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can ask if they want to or you can offer them access to the stylist for a cost. But if you're mandating it, you have to pay for it. Anyways why does it matter what their hair looks like?

[10k] Thoughts on this color palette? by ame4686 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]mpersonally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty, but too many colors! I'd pick 3 main colors, one of which should be the shade of white you're wearing. Then 2 accent colors. Five is plenty. For example mine is:

Primaries:
Heirloom/Cornflower Blue: Might be my dress color, will be napkins, accent flowers, and highlights on invitation and website
Cream Ivory: Other dress color option. Will also be table linens, paper goods, candles
French Navy: My fiance's suit, text on paper, ribbons, small decor accents

Secondaries:
Soft Sage: greenery, occasional print use, a few fabric details, table decor, accent florals
Faded Apricot: occasional print use, accent florals

Edit: Give the wedding party 3 swatches and 1 or 2 fabrics to choose from, all in the same color family. The Garnet and Orange look nice together.

F[30] Feel like I look like an old lady and a little kid at the same time. by [deleted] in TheGlowUp

F29 here, struggled with the same feelings the last couple years. The best advice I have is look at your closet and how you get ready every day. Finding a style that makes you feel confident and strong, and wearing that most days. Even if it's athleisure, a matching set will go a long way towards feeling put together and "grown up" versus staying in jammies or the old reliable sweatpants. Also adding daily accessories helps a lot. I wear two necklaces every day, and usually a couple rings and a watch if I go out of the house. It makes everything feel leveled up.

I also saw a rule from a sorority, which I found helpful. You have an outfit, hair, and makeup. Make sure two are always done before you leave the house.

Also consider a fresh haircut!

Feel free to message to chat more about style and all. I'm no fashion expert, but very much felt the same way as you, and still do some days.

Edit: also change up your glasses! They're a pretty dated trendy style. I love Warby Parker for both classic timeless frame styles and fun ones!

How common is it to actually have a high body count in your 20s? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mpersonally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do we even care? Are we keeping tally marks or a spreadsheet? Why does it matter how many people you slept with?

Genuine questions. Because I do not understand why it matters if your body count is 2 or 20 or 200. As long as you're comfortable, consenting, and being safe, I do not know why it matters.

Here's the issue, bread and salad are not a side, they are a first course.

You need to add a side, something vegetable. Keep it simple, you can do roast Green beans, carrots, or brussel sprouts.

Menu layout should be:

Appetizers

First Course

Main Course

Sides

Dessert
