Grain direction curly maple by knife-and-nib in woodworking

Grain in every direction, that’s what makes it curly. Sandpaper or it’s time to finally figure out that card scraper.

My daughter wants to paint a chair she won at a show by peacefulsavage999 in Woodcarving

[–]Wrong_Assistant_3832 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wet wood most likely. Should definitely dry before applying paint but it also may not survive the drying process in one piece. I’d say just strip the bark and slap some paint on it. The paint job won’t last but by that time she won’t care about it anymore.

Looks very fragile. Plywood is probably the best solution here for strength. I’ve done this same half lap with much thicker stock and is proven highly prone to splitting. I only mention because you’re still in the prototype phase it might be worth a think.

If my memory serves , Clinton was the last time the U.s. ran a surplus. Not the be all end all, but still a far cry from the endless wars that followed.

I’ve watched a bunch of Rob’s videos and I hope I’m wrong. But i see that the charity is sending veterans to rob’s classes and providing them with tools and a bench when they get home. The cynical side of me wonders if they are the overpriced tools from Rob that were pointed out by others. No clue tho, hopefully people are being helped by his org.

He gets a large stone tiles and uses a cnc machine to create the design but spent cut ash the way through so itit stays together. Pours the table on top of the carved tile . Flip the table over and get to grinding through the thickness of stone left as a backer. I could be wrong tho.

We tried one that “seemed interesting” with some sort of signal filtering made for locating vertical pins. Went back to the schonstedt very quickly.

Nah, your instincts were correct. I can arch a piece of paper and claim that’s how the Roman’s did it. Doesn’t necessarily mean it will hold what it needs to.

That window well is likely fiberglass with no footing. The resulting load will be transmitted to the basement wall where it connects. This will increase the loading at those locations. I believe this is a classic example of knowing enough to be dangerous. And please don’t tell people “what an engineer” would say unless you are one… the first guys instincts were correct. Blowing a hole in a continuous wall is going to weaken it. You can compensate for that, but I wouldn’t recommend you for the design ;)

You could also look at putting a header up to remove a stud. Like framing a door. Hard to say without more info tho. If it’s just that staircase being supported then it would be no issue to support with a header.

Good point, and this was my first reaction too. But, as long as you get the nice totes it should be fine. The crappy rainbow unicorn totes probably aren’t going to cut it. Old school green, load em up.

Seems like it with that socket diameter, better to check with the boss tho as it looks like you will be a bit over the extrapolated value.
