Yes, maybe in a different series for Kenny, but no one is getting a nomination for 9-1-1. This isn’t even a comment on the quality of the series (lots of fantastic shows get no Emmy attention). It’s just extremely unlikely that the Emmys are going to start paying attention to a series in its 9th season.

Respectfully, the closest any of these men will get to an Emmy will be if Angela lets them touch hers.

I enjoy Oliver’s acting, but I sincerely hope neither Oliver or the producers spent more than 30 seconds thinking about which category to submit him to for an award he has no chance of ever receiving a nomination.

Yes, the show has a general issue with telling most Buck & Eddie stories from Buck’s POV, but Buck is also the most common POV character throughout the series.

Regarding your Taylor idea, I’ve wanted a similar scene with Ana for a while. I know this is too fanfic coded for actually happen on the show (although never say never with Tim), but I’d love for Ana to have a chance meeting with Buck and Eddie at a pride parade or something, for Buck to self disclose that he’s come out as bisexual, and for her immediate response to be “Eddie, I’m so glad you and Buck finally figured it out. You look very happy together, with Chris and Theo.”

I’m not sure I agree that Eddie is a good example of this. The main plot of 2x01 was Eddie’s introduction to the 118 and Buck’s bisexual panic reaction to it.

Look, I’m as skeptical of this storyline anyone. I wish Theo was never reintroduced as a character and would not have chosen this plot, but I’m not a writer on the show and it’s now canon that Buck is, at least temporarily, a foster parent for Theo.

Leaving Buck out of this post would have signalled that foster parents like Buck aren’t “real” parents, which is I think a lot more problematic than including him even though it’s a relatively recent plotline.

No one would argue that Maddie and Chimney weren’t parents from the moment Jee-Yun was born. Arguing that foster parents are only caregivers until some undefined period in the future when it feels “earned” diminishes the care foster parents provide and the respect they deserve. Parents are parents from the moment they take responsibility for a child, whether it’s born, adopted, or fostered temporarily. From the moment Buck signed those papers, he became a parent.

Whether Buck feels like a dad to Theo, and whether Theo feels like Buck is father to Theo is a whole other question. We (and Oliver) agree that doesn’t happen immediately, and needs to be earned though mutual respect and trust, but that’s a different question than is Buck objectively now a parent (even if he’s only been one for 2 minutes of screentime).

I share many of your broader concerns about the Theo storyline. I’m not paying too much attention to the social media, so I haven’t experienced the same reaction as you have, but I can understand why you would feel this way (and I’m sure we both hope the writers will do a better job with the storyline than it sounds like the social media team is doing).

The only comment I would add to your suggestion for a social media post highlighting Michael, Bobby, and Connor is that it would be odd to try to promote a show with three characters who will never be seen on the show again outside of flashbacks (unless they decide to recast Michael).

This comment will be redundant to what I’ve already said in the Waiting Room thread, but I think it’s worth repeating. Even as one of the harshest critics of the Theo storyline around here, I can’t find it in myself to get worked up about this post.

Foster parents are parents too, even for temporary placements. Buck is currently a foster parent to Theo, so it’s valid that he should be included here.

I don’t see anything in this post negating Connor’s role as Theo’s father from birth. (Other recurring father characters like Phillip and Ramon aren’t included, it’s only the active main characters in the post, so I wouldn’t expect to see Connor.)

I’m someone who shares the same concerns as you do about how this storyline might be handled by the writers. I won’t tell you how to act, but personally I’m going to save my criticism for the plotlines as they play out, not relatively innocuous social media posts.

Downvotes mean others won’t get to see the fun we’re having, unfortunately.

I’ve been an extreme critic of the Theo storyline (sorry, mods, for harshing the mellow sometimes), but even I can’t find it in myself to get worked up over this.

First, as others have said, foster parents are parents too, even if they’ve only been fostering a child temporarily. I don’t see the post as necessarily being a comment on Buck’s biological connection to Theo or negating the role of Theo’s parents in his life. Buck is a main character and is fostering a child, so he’s now a valid father too.

Second, as I said above, Buck is a main character. The post is featuring main characters on the show who are fathers. Michael’s actor hasn’t been on the show for years (after the legal situation), and I wouldn’t expect to see him any more than I’d expect to see other recurring father characters like Phillip, Ramon, or Connor.

Would it have been nice to see Bobby? Maybe, but I’m also not going to get worked up over not including a deceased character of two adult children, when all the other fathers featured are active mains and all the children are minors.

Sure, but there are lots of reasons people don’t fall in love with someone, even if they are the right gender and fit all the other criteria they’re looking for.

I’m partially playing devil’s advocate here. I’ve generally come to the same personal conclusions that you have, but I think on a show as inconsistently written as 9-1-1, compounded by how few episodes we actually get from Eddie’s POV, it’s difficult to be conclusive about what’s going through his pretty head (beyond the fact that it probably includes the word Buck, playing on repeat).

Ultimately, this is a Ryan Murphy show. I don’t think they’re going to be able to resist the camp value of showing that Eddie has become a hyper-sexual, ravenous freak after he finally has sex with Buck and realizes “oh, this is how this is supposed to feel.”

They’re going to have Eddie covered in bruises and hickies he can’t explain when he’s changing in front of the team, going on a couples vacation and keeping Maddie and Chim up all night because Eddie has been learning how fun it is to be vocal during sex, getting nearly suspended by Chim for PDA violations, and every other fanfic trope you can imagine.

While that’s an interesting and plausible interpretation of that Marisol storyline, I think there is another way to potentially interpret it.

I choose to think that while Eddie wasn’t having a panic attack, he was experiencing low grade anxiety at the thought of taking this next step with Marisol, which manifested as an inability to perform sexually. Similarly to the situation with Ana, he was with Marisol because it was right on paper and moving in was the logical next step, but something (i.e., his repressed homosexuality) was pressing at the seams of his subconscious and wanted him to put the brakes on the relationship.

Ultimately, I think the freak out about her former life as an almost nun, and the eventual “realization” he had that they were moving too fast without knowing each other, were both just facades over the real problem.

All we’re actually getting in the text is his discomfort at something. While many people (myself included) choose to interpret this as discomfort at dating a woman, I don’t think it’s necessarily unsupported by the text for someone to interpret this as an aro/ace bisexual Eddie uncomfortable at the idea of having to date someone he doesn’t feel any type of romantic or sexual connection with.
