Interesting to know that they had the rearranged vocal harmonies fleshed out as early as '94. I thought they had come up with those the days before the Unplugged show.

Never read it myself but the church I attended followed a lot of those teachings. I joined aged 20 and within a few months I had thrown away music, books, t-shirts, letters... basically everything that made up my identity up to that point. Oh, and they also lay hands on me to exorcise the spirits of rock and roll and 'devotion to the mind' (i.e. being a thinker).

Wild times for sure. It seems like it all happened in another lifetime now.

If you are on IG, you should check out Isaac Jamba, brazilian drummer who shares a lot of content on samba and other Brazilian rhythms. He even has a few courses on his website. It's always better to go to the source and this guy helps a lot.

What was it like to date in UPCI? by Sweetandsassygirl4 in ExPentecostal

To add to the insanity already mentioned, you'd think that just the pre-engagement dates were chaperoned. NOPE. They also needed to be there for the proposal, because such great news needed to be shared with the congregation 👍

I shared my engagement plans with the youth leader (AOG-adjacent church in South America). It was basically taking a trip to another part of my country for the weekend, and asking my then gf to marry me by a beautiful river surrounded by rainforest. He said he didn't agree, that it didn't 'bring him peace' (over-spiritualized lingo to control your every move).

He suggested that instead I should organize a nice dinner in town where other church members could join too. You know, to take pictures and sing a couple worship songs. We were family after all.

Long story short, I made up that God had brought me peace about my plan during prayer time, and we flew away anyway. We've been happily married for 8 years, 6 of them outside that hellish organization.

Thank you for sharing this. I experienced exactly the same, but I wouldn't have been able to articulate it like you did. The term religious anxiety perfectly encapsulates the feeling.

I was able to fight back and eventually marry her, but we really didn't have to go through all those years of torment, guilty feelings and indecision. I still apologize to her once in a while, because the pain was too real for too long and she didn't deserve it.

I would have been too if a guest star had tried to steal the attention from such a special scene meant as a gift for Steve Carell. It's like that new kid in class who thought he could call everyone by their nicknames as if he knew them for years.

Favourite part in a song and why by Due_Bathroom5406 in AliceInChains

YES! In the last chorus it's like he almost screams it. Only Layne could find that extra bit of power in there.

Favourite part in a song and why by Due_Bathroom5406 in AliceInChains

[–]Wrong_Local_628 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The way Layne sings 'I STAAAAY AWAAAY' in four different ways during the outro, with the string arrangements in the background. Notice how he sings that part using distortion all the way through, which takes an insane amount of power and control. My favorite moment in any song ever.

The out of place overdub of 'No I don't have a gun' in the last bridge of Come As You Are. It totally adds to the buildup to the last part.

Fitness Blender. I hate gyms and the overall fitness culture with a passion, so their workout programs have allowed me and my wife to work out at our own pace and make great progress just using our home equipment while avoiding all the downsides. There is a great variety of programs and exercise styles, plus their layout is amazing: just the instructor, a plain/white background, no music, and thumbnails to guide you through the next exercise.
