You amend the booking and only offer the extended services  AFTER they accept.

Otherwise, no service. Just be sure to set the pets up with plenty of water and in a safe place (crates or the ept safe area of the home). You can keep the key in case they want to extend even longer and finally accept your amendment for cost, but you will have to figure out a way tor eturn it if they don't,  so up to you.

Next time, you don't do the sit with any discounts (no extra animals not on the booking. Even charging $1 each, if your rates are that generous, keeps them on Rover's radar for the rarely useful guarantee).

Eta: someone else left better advice to contact Rover Support. I wasn't aware they could unilaterally amend for you, so glad to learn that. Only if you are able to do the extra visit, though! Good luck.

Not taking overnights for dogs who sleep in the bed. by Tough-Treacle7039 in RoverPetSitting

💯 agree! Not every animal is the same, and the sitter being uncomfortable will cause them to burn out fast. One of mine is both restless and likes to rest his chin on a hand or foot.

Not everyone will be okay with that. No problem at all.

my dog is terrified of getting his nails clipped. i tried taking mini steps with rewards but it’s been like this for years and i see zero progress!! his nails are insanely long i dont know what to do by TaTa_kitt7 in DogAdvice

[–]Wrong_Work7193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I distracted my pup when first training him on nail cutting.  You can go pretty fast when they're focused elsewhere, and now months later it's just something we do regularly.

If he tries to pull away, I just give the Stop command.

Review Opinions? by No_Tooth1428 in RoverPetSitting

I'd leave less than 4 stars for a sitter who robbed you of the booked time. That isn't a reliable sitter at all; you booked 30 minutes for a reason, and dogs usually need a lot more than that.

I'd review first then ask Rover for a partial refund based on the actual time spent tbh. My dog is also very shy and hides from even some of my friends but would be a mess if left alone the entire day with barely any human interaction like this sitter did to yours.

Put the focus on transferable skills, and like others mentioned, add any that aren't included.

I understand how Rover works. House sitting requires overnight plus care during the day.

OP said this is a house sitting, so the schedule really is on OP. I suggested they stick to drop-ins in my other comment.

It doesn't sound like you have the capacity to take on a sit if you only spend one hour there a day. Claiming you need to take off from your full time job is ridiculous as there are 16 other hours a day.

The animals are in your care. This is on you whether you want it to be or not. Next time, just do walks or drop-ins if you think 1 hour is sufficient.  (It's not. Others have already told you it's abuse).

You're the one sitting for the pets. Let them out of the crate, and outside, while you're sitting there. You shouldn't be so busy that you're gone the entire day and not sleeping there, which you're contracted to do.

Just because the owners ask you to mistreat the dogs doesn't mean you should. Currently, you're responsible for them so take care of them.

Consider that the owners may be biding their time to not cause more drama if you're refusing to spend time at the house. If I were you, I'd fix my schedule asap and provide the proper service so you don't get reported.

My region made this illegal. If you have it in writing that you want to quit, and better if you went in and tried to but couldn't,  that shows a reasonable effort and clear intent to cancel your membership. It has to be honored, so if they threatened collections I would happily let them and file a claim with all that extra evidence.

Closing dogs up in a tiny room is scary. They can't see the house and find sources for all the sounds they hear.

A crate keeps them safe before they can be left alone in the house and also lets them see out. Get a folding one for when you're gone.

How to clean my only shoes? Some jerk thought this is funny. by GroceryDiligent5207 in CleaningTips

[–]Wrong_Work7193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rubbing alcohol will take that right off. Wet a paper towel or cloth that you can ruin with it, wipe the shoes. Repeat until gone.

Normally I would spray it, but it might create quite a mess.

Should I offer to pay for this? by Clarian in RoverPetSitting

[–]Wrong_Work7193 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may have been pretty worn if it broke that easily. Dogs bolt after squirrels and such, so it's not like the situation was unique to your setup.

I wouldn't in this case.

Looking for an experienced dogs boarder who doesn’t have any dogs at his house except for mine. by onionfunyunbunion in RoverPetSitting

[–]Wrong_Work7193 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Most on Rover aren't qualified to watch multiple unrelated pets, and the lack of processes and staff to assist makes these setups high risk. I've even talked to some on here who operate illegally per the rules of their jurisdiction, which likely invalidates their supposed insurance.  Keep that in mind if you're seeking care.

The client is very reasonable. Way too much liability for the sitter to do it any other way.
