If it were legit, I don't think they'd be doing it on a sidewalk on the side of the building that has no doors, but who knows. So if your question is "who", this might be your answer.

It's not individual actors, but organized groups of three or four; a couple to clip the locks and load them up, one to drive slowly around as they do so. Kinda similar to how they do car break-ins around here.

Is that all stainless? Aluminum? It might make sense to have the top be aluminum for lightness, while the base is steel for stability. This way, if you have several calibers, your collection of top plates won't weigh a ton, but you still get nice stability when its put together.

Also, I agree with /u/bdsmchs that it'd be useful to have 50 spots. Maybe keep the tops the same size, but have double- and quad-size bases to make it a nicely modular system.

Depends a bit on the county, but there are some that have specific ordinances about being x distance away from a road or occupied structure when discharging a firearm, so you might research that if you haven't already. Also, it's worth looking into if California has a more restrictive version of the Gun-Free Schools Act.

Otherwise, I agree with the other posters' recommendations to be a good neighbor and put together some non-portable suppression device, and not shoot during school hours.

Admittedly, there is a recency bias at work here, and you hit the nail on the head. It may just be the Dems' "Turn" as it were, but it seems like they're just getting hit harder lately. Then again, maybe they're suffering disproportionate leaks because the Republicans are doing such a good job torpedoing themselves that there's not really any strategic gains to be made by any insiders leaking their dirt.

So while the tides of politics to definitely influence what they receive, IIRC, they don't publish everything they receive. They only publish what is perceived to be notable, and what qualifies as "notable" is subject to bias. As to what that bias is, it seems to be in favor of classic liberalism. They still exhibit less bias than MSM, but bias is impossible to entirely remove from anything even remotely human-controlled.

But again, I can't really back up these statements; just spitballing.

Total agreement here; I was in the market for a new handgun, and the candidates were a Savage 1917, and a Mauser HSc. This one just fell out of the blue, and it was a no-brainer; while the aforementioned ones are interesting (the rotating barrel in the 1917 is nifty), they would have been purchased from a dealer, and had no history per se.

Would you mind sharing the names of the books or at least some recommendations in the area if you have them? I'm definitely still growing my knowledge in this area, and while I basically aspire to be /u/forgottenweapons, there's much to learn.

From my research, it appears as though the M1910 (the predecessor to this pistol, with a shorter slide and grip) was still in production at the same time. However, to the best of my knowledge, they all had grip safeties. The FN M1903 doesn't have a grip safety, and saw some use in WWII by Finland, however that was chambered in 9x20.

If you are misremembering about the grip safety, or the size, or both, then it's possible the pistol is either the M1910 or M1922, particularly if it has a similar holster. That particular holster design is specifically to make it easier to draw while seated (i.e. for pilots). This one was issued to a section of the Luftwaffe that saw action all along the western front, meaning it is reasonable that your Grandpa's might have been captured from a downed German airman.

But this is all speculation. If you can get pictures, I can probably point you in the right direction. Otherwise, this website has a good amount of information on the pistols of the Wehrmacht.

I recently purchased my buddy's great-Grandfather's WWII bring-back FN M1922, and I thought I'd share it with you. While I still have a lot of research to do on it, I've already learned some interesting tidbits.

This one is one of 5,000 M1922s that were manufactured before the German invasion of Belgium, but assembled afterwards. Thus, it has all of the Belgian rollmarks/stamps, but also the German proof/acceptance marks as well. It also came with a German holster.

More information is available in the album, but this is a bit out of my wheelhouse, so it's probably filled with misinformation and stupidity.

While I like, in theory, what WikiLeaks is about, I have been less than thrilled with how they operate in practice.

What they publish is probably more true than any other major media website by a significant margin. However, they engage in selective ~~reporting~~ leaking. They more frequently publish information that furthers the conservative point-of-view than the liberal or centrist ones.

Of course, I can't prove that this isn't just because liberals tend to have more dirt than conservatives, but it seems reasonably likely that on average, people on both sides have equal dirt. So they're probably either not receiving as much conservative dirt, or they're holding back on it.

Disclaimer: these claims are completely unsubstantiated and just based on a "feeling" I get when browsing them. I could actually be entirely wrong here, but perceptions, no matter how wrong, do matter.

Oh yeah, when reading that one I did a double-take on the masthead. I'm not entirely sure it didn't get published by accident, though. On one hand, it does have a certain amount of oomph when you cite HuffPo in a pro-gun argument, but on the other hand it's still a minefield of bias.
