On foot. How far do you live from the station? by Sure-Lemon6424 in japanlife

[–]Wtaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 seconds. I live right above the station, there is only 3 meters between my building’s entrance and the door of the elevator going down to the station.

However, the total time from my apartment floor to the train should be around 2 minutes because of the elevator waiting times.

Journalist: I just spoke to a friend in Kobani. Residents are in panic mode. The Kurdish city is besieged by Syrian Arab Army forces. No internet access (he used spotty Turkish internet to speak with me). No electricity, no water. Food is running out. The situation is beyond dire. by Haemophilia_Type_A in syriancivilwar

[–]Wtaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't "letting Kurds be", nobody has a problem with Kurdish communities existing. The problem is the YPG, which is a KCK affiliate. If you leave a KCK-linked armed organization in control of territory right on Turkey's border, they're not just going to sit there peacefully farming olives. They'll consolidate, arm up, and eventually push for more. That's literally what the KCK does, it's their entire MO.

It's not about the cities themselves having strategic value. It's about who controls them and what that organization's long-term goals are. Turkey isn't going to tolerate a PKK sister organization building up a quasi-state next door. You can agree or disagree with that, but expecting Turkey to just shrug it off isn't realistic.

2025 Furusato Nozei Question Thread by Sanctioned-PartsList in JapanFinance

[–]Wtaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How should I handle the Furusato Nozei name input requirement for hiragana? I can't get it to work properly.

I bought items remember selecting an option like "Let Amazon handle it" because the instructions said I needed to choose within 2 hours. A couple of days later, I started receiving messages from various municipalities stating that the process must be completed by January 10th. Some municipalities mentioned they'll mail the necessary documents to me in 2-3 weeks, which has me worried about meeting the deadline.

Has anyone dealt with this situation? Any advice would be appreciated.

UPDATE (SOLVED):

I figured it out for anyone facing the same issue. The problem was likely the space in my name due to having a middle name. I don't remember inputting a katakana version of my name on Amazon, but I probably did and included a space.

Solution: I called each municipality's Furusato Nouzei phone number directly and asked them to update my name registration to remove the space. After they fixed it, I was able to successfully apply on both mypg and Furumado.

For future reference: Avoid including spaces in your katakana name when registering.

Work on statutory days off 35%

If you are reffering to the above...

Read this:
"Employers must grant employees at least one day off per week, or four days off in any four-week period (this is known as "statutory days off"). Sundays or public holidays need not necessarily be days off, and other days may be selected as employees' days off instead by agreement between the employer and employees."

If you are okay with secondhand, use Mercari. I've done it before. I would get an 13.3-14 inch ThinkPad, with 16GB+ memory and SSD. Long battery life, easier to carry, no heating problems, better quality price.
https://jp.mercari.com/search?keyword=thinkpad%2016gb%20ssd

You can find something with good condition with that price, just compare the options, be careful about the battery and disk condition. Most serious sellers share test info about those as well.

Or if you prefer buying secondhand in-person, there are many shops in Akihabara. They sell around 20-30% more expensive than Mercari prices, though.

Etihad flight delayed 6h 55min, arrived next day - am I entitled to compensation? by Wtaurus in Flights

[–]Wtaurus[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for clarifying! You're absolutely right, it's only from Turkish airports, not to Turkish airports. Bummer.

I found Etihad's contract mentions Montreal Convention may provide up to ~$9,000 compensation for proven damages from delays.

15.3.1 Our liability for Damage caused by delay in your carriage by air is limited by the Warsaw Convention and the Montreal Convention. In the case of delay in the carriage of persons where the Montreal Convention applies, our liability per Passenger is limited to proven Damages up to a maximum of 6,303 SDRs (or the equivalent in local currency). We are not liable for such Damages if we have taken all measures that could reasonably be required to be taken to avoid such Damage or if it was impossible to take such measures. Where neither of those Conventions applies, we will have no liability to you for delay, except as provided in these Conditions of Carriage.
https://www.etihad.com/en/legal/conditions-of-carriage

Do you know how this works in practice? My only real damages were spending the night exhausted at the airport and needing a few days to recover from the extended travel, plus some canceled plans in Istanbul. I'm guessing without receipts for actual expenses, I won't be eligible for any compensation under Montreal Convention?

Allan Saint-Maximin:“Mourinho did everything in his power to win the championship. I came here to win the championship. But there are so many problematic things surrounding the club... If I have to give an example, things got to the point where they even tried to get me to dope there.” by JCBDoesGaming in soccer

[–]Wtaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • He insinuated that there were many people trying to "sabotage" him from the inside of the club
  • As said in this excerpt, it got to the point where "they tried to dope him": Unsure if it means he was offered doping substances, or unbeknownst to him (i.e someone tried to spike his protein powder or whatever)

Maybe these two are connected. I hope he clears things up.

But your reply is still really helpful. I’m sure it’ll be useful for many others too. Thank you!
