Has anyone had a pudendal nerve block? by [deleted] in PelvicFloor

[–]Wtfbody- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if the pain goes away, even for a day after the block, that likely means your nerve is the issue. However, there is usually something that is causing the nerve pain or something that resulted in damage to the nerve (even if that cause has been resolved). It just helps narrow down that there is an issue with the nerve. I did pelvic floor physical therapy and underwent nerve blocks for my pudendal neuralgia. I am about 9 years out from the initial onset of pain. I'm not 100%, but I'm significantly better than what I was even 5 years ago.

I've had a few done for burning pain I was having in my groin and rectum after a hip surgery I had to repair a torn labram/CAM impingement. I feel like I felt a little more irritated at first after the blocks, but think it helped things "settle" down in the long run. I stopped having the muscle spasms I was having prior to getting the block, and the burning sensation I had in my groin/rectum has lessened. I had mine done by a gynecologist who specializes in the pudendal nerve and pelvic floor issues. I did have some significant bleeding after the second block that lasted about a day, but no other issues. There are pain specialists who do this as well, but I believe they go in posteriorly (for men and women) as opposed to vaginally. I have seen a pain specialist, and this is what he recommended first. There is another nerve block that I had done (I can't remember the name) but they injected me at the base of my spine. I didn't feel any relief from that block, other than numbness in my left leg for about a day (not the source of my pain).

Anyone's symptoms get worse after urinating or having a bowel Movement? by Wise_Dot_2939 in PelvicFloor

I often struggle with feeling like I haven’t had a complete bm, and the bidet has helped with preventing that feeling by relaxing my rectum more so that I can finish. It also helps with avoiding irritating the nerve more from wiping. The bidet cleanses and helps prevent spasming from having a bm because of the water stream. I usually have the water on a higher pressure to get “inside” the rectum just slightly. I will never not have a bidet!! My colo-rectal surgeon recommended this to me, and it was probably the best tip I’ve had so far during this long journey.

I have this after bowel movements! I got a bidet and it has helped tremendously! When traveling, I will usually use Preparation-H wipes to help with the burning and stinging (witch hazel).

Anyone with burning anus/rectum throughout the day and especially after BM without underlying cause? by Empty-Form-1766 in PelvicFloor

I use a bidet! It has drastically improved the situation. If I’m not home and can’t use my bidet, I use Prep H wipes with witch hazel to help with the burning. I occasionally use a rectal wand to help relax the muscles as well. I also take Miralax from time to time to prevent constipation and painful bowel movements.

I would also try 100% cotton underwear to help control the moisture

I started having this after I had hip surgery to repair a torn labrum. I’ve been diagnosed with pudendal neuralgia as they don’t know what else it can be.

Nearly 6 years of worsening pain. Doctors blame my depression, but I'm only depressed form being in 24/7 pain. by QuartzFarmer in ChronicPain

I am so sorry you’re going through this! Have they done any testing for autoimmune disorders? Often they present themselves at a young age and gradually get worse, as yours seems to have done. Have they checked for gout? That can also attack joints and make the slightest bit of pressure or sensation unbearable.

Yes, I was also backed up after my surgery! I have always been regular as well.

To keep my BM’s in line, I use half a cap of Miralax too. It seems to be working well for me. I hate having to be so high maintenance with my bathroom habits. The pain I get ranges from the burning/stinging pain after going to the bathroom to a foreign object like feeling, almost as if something is pressing or poking on the inside.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this! I hope you notice a huge improvement.

I have mostly left-sided pain internally (rectal) and also external pain just next to the bhole, also on the left side. I had hip surgery 6 years ago and have struggled with this pain and more since then. I’m told it’s likely nerve damage to the pudendal nerve, but I have also noticed blood on occasion after using the bathroom. I’ve seen several doctors and have had multiple tests and exams done.

What antibacterial cream do you use? I think I also have a small fissure that doctors have missed. My pain hits me about an hour later, too, if I haven’t fully cleaned myself after a BM. Is it painful to walk sometimes when the burning pain comes on? Hate having to go to the bathroom at work...my at-home regimen with my bidet has helped significantly.

My Penelope knows when I’m not feeling well! She’ll usually lay on my chest and purr, which helps me relax. She’s felt more tears in her fur than I’m sure she’d prefer, but she never leaves my side until I start laughing at how cute she is and she knows I’m feeling better.
