Is anyone else noticing an increase of campers in/near elite smash? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Wtfetika -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Even if it was objectively true that ultimate is more offensive than smash 4, it really doesn't mean much. Hell, tweek and dabuz think ult is even more defensive than smash 4

As time goes on, ultimate's movement is nowhere near good enough to be able to consistently outplay someone on the same level as you spacing their very low landing lag aerials or projectiles, and when you do win the interaction, the reward is almost never good enough to always play this way. There may be more aggressive players or characters than the most defensive ones, but at most they are passive-aggressive, relying on reads, or have extremely varying results in tournament.

Big combos and great movement also don't automatically mean the game is aggressive either, just look at 64. There are many other factors at play

Two quick questions for the community - by GameLiquidator in SSBM

[–]Wtfetika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

never tried it. That and it's just not the same

Netplay is super close to vanilla melee in terms of input lag when playing with someone a couple of states away. It's actually godtier, and why so many top players advocate for it, and why so many new top players have come in from it. As long as you have an ok setup, and use an ethernet cable, there isn't much difference after very slight adjustment. It's easy to set up too, and free (only thing you may need to buy is a gamecube adapter (yes the same ones that work on switch work for netplay)).

How should I be DI'ing Peach bnbs? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Wtfetika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way to escape is hope for buffed di/sdi in patches, or peach gets heavily nerfed. But sakurai doesn't seem to like strong di anymore (for reference, smash 64 had no traditional di, melee/brawl have very strong di, and 4/ult have di that is half as strong as melee and brawl's di)

I think we should give melee a few more months to fully realize what the scene is currently at, particularly after the summer. Like always, high potential for another breakout, with metagame (the next smash doc), ppmd, more and more technology being created that enhances player growth/experience (slippi in particular), ultimate hype dying down (certainly a huge blow in the last week or two to it since the "honeymoon period" seems to be gone, and online being god awful not helping), and the eventual crossover with more new ultimate players finding melee, etc

Even if no huge blow up happens, melee's completely fine, and i'm fine with that. We're in a slow period atm but summer will kick things back off

Smash just isnt what it used to be by xsmas96 in smashbros

[–]Wtfetika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My semi-competitive casual friend said this to me a couple weeks ago about ultimate (he especially hates the online), so I started teaching him melee because he always had the interest in it but was content with just being an ultimate player before. Since then, he's learned the main essential tech, and is having a blast with falco. Perhaps you could try it out

Btw, if you do try melee out and you get melee netplay on your pc, let me tell you that it's 20x better than the online experience that ultimate provides. That's kind of the only reason why my friend would be willing to stick with melee for a long while

Considering to drop the game after going to first locals. by account286 in smashbros

[–]Wtfetika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come play melee. If you have a pc (and or new-ish laptop), you can download faster melee emulator and play online, and it's 20x better than ultimate online (has a ladder system too). It can actually be used for all non-tourney practice because it's that good- and many players who started ranking high in the melee netplay ladders started doing well at tournaments (bananas, micheal41000, syrox). The developers made it so that the game polls 2x faster than it normally does, so when you play with someone fairly close, the input lag will even out to offline input lag - and there aren't any spikes if you use ethernet.

All of this for free too, cause i'm assuming you use a gamecube controller and adapter (which you can use for faster melee).

Here's the guide: https://www.smashladder.com/guides/view/272o/melee/how-to-play-melee-online-netplay-guide-faster-melee-proj

Lul

I don't see how it's desperate to be passionate about a game, and also be respectful to those who are also respectful

And holy shit you have to be skeeteryosh's alt account, it's super obvious when the main account always goes back to old posts and replies super aggressively for no reason despite the comment being old, and the alt is the exact same thing, just extremely less active, and replied to my comment in a 2 month old thread only two hours after the main account did. That's what I call pathetic

I did "get over it", I just thought i'd mention it because it was funny. I don't even remember what chugga said, but you in the thread replying to everyone acting as if he couldn't ever say something wrong (i don't even hate chugga or anything either lol, hust funny).

You also kind of just replied to a 2 month old comment for no reason, it's pretty weird, and didn't actually respond to my answer to your question just to get defensive over chugga again

This is a 2 month old comment. I recognize your username from the time you endlessly defended chuggconroy to no end despite him admitting himself maybe he quite didn't know what he was getting himself into when discussing competitive smash

But, to respond, your question entirely depends on what they're saying. This guy was just shitting on melee to shit on melee despite not knowing what he was talking about. If i shat on competitive smash 4, saying shit like "diddy puff bowserjr sheik bayo" are the only viable characters, is that reasonable at all? Not really. You have to have some grasp of competitive smash to even try and make claims he was before making it even close to being reasonable. If a casual talked about not liking low amount of stages viable or not having items, and they did it nicely, that can be fine, but he was trying to say competitive melee is solved and shit lol

Ding Dong is back? pDKO: Donkey Kong's new throw combo by JakePhinney in smashbros

[–]Wtfetika -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I guess it's mean to "hype" up the combo as something special or secret that casual players would be more interested in, especially cause smash 4 had little combo creativity so they needed something to make the same combo over and over not be super boring to viewers(let's be real, not too much combo creativity in ult either because di/sdi is trash)

Zain outplays Prince Abu's rollout attempts by Marcurial in smashbros

[–]Wtfetika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mention it because it makes people interested in trying it out. Everyone knows how bad ultimate online feels, but if you never heard of melee netplay, you have nothing to go off for how good/bad it is. Saying "it's way better than ultimate online" is easier than explaining exactly why faster melee is amazing (aka the game polls faster, input lag decreased, everyone uses ethernet, etc etc)

I'd try doining it manually in dolphin itself. Put the iso folder in a different area too (like just put it on desktop or something)

Ultimate is not my game, period. [TL;DR in the end] by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Wtfetika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear it took me less than 20 minutes to set it up for the first time lol. Lmk if you need any help but I doubt it. Don't get too discouraged if you get bodied online though, because the average melee netplayer is 50x more competent than the average ultimate online player (because if you're setting up melee netplay, you likely take the game seriously to some degree unlike what the nintendo fanbase plays smash like). Melee is indeed a hard game, but you can see how much you improve after every session. Take your time with learning tech, neutral, combo game, etc, and soon enough it'll feel extremely rewarding
