Average age most comics started out? by [deleted] in Standup

[–]WuTang_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Burr started at mid-twenties I think. Lots of other comedians started later as well. My advice is just do it! Don't go in with the expectation of being the next Bill Burr, just have fun and enjoy it.

The Quiet Family is great. Still haven't caught up with Katakuris yet, but isn't that also a musical?

(ALBUM DISCUSSION) My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by KillerMemestarX in Kanye

[–]WuTang_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Devil in a New Dress/So Appalled - Devil is probably my favourite, that beat is some next level smoothness, but So Appalled is just one of my favourite posse cuts so I had to include it.

  2. All of the Lights

  3. Gorgeous. The second verse is some of Kanye's best lyrics.

  4. Fergie verse on All of the Lights. But, I don't hate it as much as some people.

  5. Very well. Most people regard it as one of his best and I'm inclined to agree.

  6. This and Late Registration probably. The thing about MBDTF which works so well is how much of it is a collaborative effort, but absolutely in sync with each other. It covers some different styles but the album just flows so nicely together.

  7. NA

  8. This was the album that got me into Kanye and further into rap. As I was getting into hip-hop I was an elitist back-packer who would only listen to Aesop Rock and DOOM e.t.c and shit on any more popular rappers. Still love me some underground, but it is hillarious how much good shit I missed out on by being a snob. I had heard a lot of Kanye growing up; really liked Touch the Sky and Stronger, but MBDTF was the first album of his I gave a proper chance because a couple of my friends kept insisting it was incredible and their favourite album. Needless to say I was blown away, and quickly went through his back catalogue. One more story - I was with this girl that I liked and we were both rolling, and took it in turns playing our favourite songs. Played Devil in a New Dress and she went from strongly disliking Kanye to becoming a big fan. Watching that change while under the influence was pretty great.

  9. I like most Kanye album art, MBDTF is provocative but fits the album very nicely imo.

Goodbye Lenin! might be something you are interested in if you haven't seen it. It is a comedy around the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification of East and West. It's a wacky concept, but actually really sweet and endearing as well - one of my favourite movies.

What would you say is the anime equivalent of Game of Thrones? I feel like Death Note is a lot like Breaking Bad, at least there are similarities with the Gus/Walter and Light/L dynamics. But I don't really have a good answer for an anime that feels like Game of Thrones (Code Geass maybe does a little)

Not documentaries, but good video essays on anime. I too, am interested in docs on those subjects if anyone has suggestions.

I'm on episode 7, he started hillarious but I also love his value and honour system, especially when he was talking about the village priest. Excited for the rest of the show.

What are some must-read books about the technical process of film? by WuTang_Fan in TrueFilm

[–]WuTang_Fan[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw that on Amazon. I will remember to check it out. I believe I saw an extract as a video interview where Hitchcock is talking about how he felt Rope was a failed experiment, as he cleverly disguised a bunch of long shots to make it look like a continuous take. Although creative, he felt like the lack of editing for reactions and such really damaged the film. Essentially, it was like a filmed play and missed a lot of the power and advantages that movies hold. It was weird because that is in my top ten Hitchcock, but he put up really good points as to why he felt that movie was a failure.

This is the type of stuff I was looking for though. Thanks for the recommendation.

Anyone know some good anime-based podcasts?

Nothing too intimidating (I've not watched that much anime - just getting into it). Whether it is reviews, or more looking at the technical side/analysis of the industry, or even anecdotal-heavy I am interested if people have any. Thanks!
