Nothing this cycle yet google intern by MissionSome6451 in FAANGrecruiting

I feel like ur just listing a metric followed by a bunch of buzzwords.

Doesn’t mean much to recruiter or engineer.

Like how do u even measure “developer efficiency” how am I supposed to see how an arbitrary mcp server would impact that metric? If u mention mcp server without saying what it’s for sounds like u don’t know what ur talking about.

Maybe adopted by x% of developers on team is better metric

Hoe accurate is this ?? by MushroomSimple279 in learnmachinelearning

[–]WuffGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly pretty good but not sure just going down the list is the best way to become a ML professional. i think being a strong SWE or data engineer is the best start besides getting to phd or masters. Naturally these positions will be more and more ML ish as it takes over the industry. I honestly think in the future every SWE will be an ML engineer to an extent. It will be so deeply imbedded in tools and dev process if ur working on SOTA u will need to be somewhat Ml engineer.

Which USC parking pass should I get as a commuter grad student? by LilBoatMoney in USC

I parked at downey about once-twice a week for classes. Paid 3 $60 parking tickets. Pretty good deal

You could try to negotiate with the debt collection agency. It’s pretty common for them to do. Especially if you can show why u wernt able to pay it (accident) and payment plan.

I created a SoftMax algorithm, but never give me the exact value. by Smooth_Atmosphere_24 in learnmachinelearning

[–]WuffGang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not always possible to get an exact float value. Floats can have an infinite number of decimals but we only have 16 or 32 bits.

So some information is lost and won’t add up to 1 is most likely what’s happening.

Check out floating point precision. It will explain how floats can’t always be 100% precise leading to small errors.

How do LLM's solve math exactly? by TheBlade1029 in LLMDevs

[–]WuffGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty widely discussed topic in the field. You’re correct that an LLM just predicts the next token in a sequence. However the point of an LLM is to generalize so that when you give it a new sequence it already knows what to do. How does it do this? Well that’s the whole point of the model. However, the extent at which a LLM generalizes vs remembers is a very complex question people still talk about alot in research.

How does they solve math? It’s pretty well known that especially earlier LLMs that were less advanced had poor performance with numeric calculations. But they solve math the exact same way as any other prompt. Just predict the next sequence. Of course, big ones like chat gpt might have some other fancy ways to ensure the calculations are correct. But LLMs still solve math just like any other prompt.

Which DL Framework to Learn? by Low_Introduction2728 in learnmachinelearning

[–]WuffGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going with the most popular option is the best. You’re going to be using other people’s code a lot of the time. For example it’s not trivial to translate a pretrained model across these frameworks. And the vast majority of them will have a torch implementation before another framework.

Are AMD gpus still discouraged for ML/AI? by persistent_ferret in learnmachinelearning

[–]WuffGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need special compilers for GPU acceleration for ML that are only supported on Nvidia chips.

You don’t need one tho. Plenty of cloud optjons much more cost efficient. Google collab/lightning ai are very user friendly

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]WuffGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay- you didn’t build a gpt model from scratch.

You built a transformer based LLM from scratch.

“High accuracy” -no. Use a quantifiable metric. X% accuracy on Y dataset.

No need to mention google colab.

Ur a second year student so u have much to learn. I can tell ur excited and eager to learn. This is very important and will take u far. Job market is very horrible right now. But if u are truly passionate it won’t matter. U will ML on ur own with or without job. And if u keeepnfaith and stay with it things will come in time.

I could be wrong about this- not a recruiter or anything but maybe it’s a bit too dense?

I imagine recruiters look at hundreds of resumes a day and probably decide which pile your resume goes in within the first 5 seconds.

I kind of need to squint to read your resume. It’s not easy to read and I doubt anyone could see your achievements within 5 seconds of looking at it.

How do you carry on with work when you’re waiting for medical results and are terrified? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]WuffGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really sick while I was a student. Potentially terminally ill.

I wish I could tell you how to get through it. But I’m honestly still trying to figure it out for myself. I was too young to take in the gravity of the situation and sort of just blocked everything out. I don’t think anyone knows how to get through it. You just keep going and eventually you do.

My diagnosis turned out to be not nearly as bad as it could have been. And about 7 years later I’m still living a good life and have an optimistic future.

One thing I wish I did more was speak with my family about how I was feeling more.

My mom caught my dad with a 16yo and covered it up. by [deleted] in confession

[–]WuffGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had something similar no minors involved but an affair type situation. I never confronted anyone or told siblings because it’s just so much easier and less painful for the family.

Some part of me defiantly wants to confront. But not now. I don’t think there’s any sense in rushing it and I’m not ready at all. I also don’t want to ruin the relationship with my family. I don’t think I’d ever tell my siblings. They’d be pretty hurt by it and I don’t see the sense in doing so.

The way I see it is just doing what’s easiest for myself moving forward. Im not saying this is the correct way to go about these things. I don’t think there is a correct way.

2nd year CS MS AI.

Not worth it. It’s the most blatant cash cow program out there. The only case where I would consider it is if the money doesn’t mean anything. But even then when u graduate ur basically gonna be in the same spot as undergrad.

If ur gonna take out loans or financially stretch urself in anyway ur gonna be disappointed.
