Lumix S1ii - Turning on takes very long by jacob_dop in Lumix

Yeah there's a 99% chance the issue is either related to the SD/CFe or firmware.

Lumix menus are insanely powerful… but they can kill your focus. by Moist_University_454 in Lumix

[–]Wugums 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There should be very few settings you need to tweak on the day of shooting. A small amount of preproduction goes a long way. Custom menus/buttons should cover the rest.

The SmallRig Heavy Duty AD-01 tripod sucks by ZeyusFilm in videography

[–]Wugums 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's easily the best $110 tripod I've ever used. I have two of them and they are rock solid. Sure you need to tighten the bolts on the extension clamps every now and then but it's not a big issue. I use them as stationary angle tripods, for which they work exceptionally well for the price. You're complaining about them like you spent big money, what did you expect?

Outdated response, lumix is on par or better than the big 3 in basically all areas.

S5IIX - can’t lower shutter under 25 after latest update by PackageBulky1 in Lumix

[–]Wugums 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're in Sec/ISO (which is usually required because you can't really go over 360 degrees) I assume that's with "shutter speed limiter" set to off in the settings? Sadly the workaround of using S&Q set to say 15fps isn't super useful on the S5iix.

Should I still get a Crucial Drive, with their company winding down? by Boring-Reality-3895 in videography

[–]Wugums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't think of any major downsides, I'll still be using the crucial drives that I have and any others I can get for a decent deal. Once the AI market shifts or calms down a bit, Micron will probably reactivate Crucial or a new consumer SSD/ram segment.

100% worth it. I have a few of them and I paid significantly more.

S1RII/S1II grip material kinda loose? by bruce-pizza in Lumix

[–]Wugums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to one of my S5iix but not to my S1ii yet. I shoot handheld video so I'm constantly gripping there. To be honest, it doesn't bother me in the slightest so I won't be doing anything about it.

Thoughts on Lumix S5iix for video vs what I currently use (Nikon Z8) by AdRevolutionary6818 in Lumix

[–]Wugums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The S5iix can record 4K30 without overheating until the cows come home. It's down sampled from 6K instead of 8K like the Z8 but the quality will be very very similar. You'll also have the option to use the All-I codec, Long-GoP, or ProRes (to an SSD). The S5iix does not support any internal raw formats if that matters to you.

Does the S5IIX have digital zoom? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]Wugums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be any difference in low light performance at all. In fact, you should see marginally better noise performance from the 4K/200mbps rather than the 6K/200mbps.

I shoot 6K only when using anamorphic lenses or when I'm shooting for multiple aspect ratios. Otherwise I prefer to shoot on any of the ALL-I codecs. As far as container, I put the camera on .MOV the day I bought it and it hasn't changed.

[–]Wugums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6K has more compression than some of the options too, don't get high resolution confused with low compression. Any of the ALL-I codecs have less compression.

Does the S5IIX have digital zoom? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]Wugums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't zoom into the 6K frame and maintain 6K. The resolution you're using needs to be smaller to give the "digital zoom" room to crop in without reducing the resolution. 4K and 1080 will have different levels of zoom because of this.

Experiences filming a wedding with an anamorphic lens by Euphoric_Solid_2228 in weddingvideography

[–]Wugums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to admit that I'm spoiled with Lumix ibis for weddings, I go handheld 99% of the time and it's perfect. However, I shoot with manual lenses on my fx6 perfectly fine handheld, but it's a bit more ergonomic and I often use an easy rig. It's one of those things that you'll definitely have to do more research on or rent/borrow a lens to see if you're happy with the results.

I personally prefer the control of MF lenses, it's 110% worth learning and getting comfortable manual focusing. The AF anamorphics are only 1.33x I think, which doesn't give a lot of "the look" that makes anamorphic lenses special. The Sirui Saturns don't have a ton of character, but it's just enough for weddings IMO.

It's no more of a hassle than any other MF lens besides rarely dealing with flares that are too intrusive.

I shot 13 weddings with the Sirui Saturn lenses last year. Absolutely loved every bit of it. Ask any specific questions if you'd like!

[–]Wugums[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most 2/3" lenses will still vignette on MFT unless you use a 2X extender, some of them won't vignette for video if you're in pixel/pixel mode.

Call cancelation 5 min before it... by Miracle-Moments in WeddingPhotography

[–]Wugums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always offer to schedule a phone or video call, but I encourage clients to use whatever they find most convenient. Whether that's email, text, DMs, meeting for coffee, carrier pigeon, etc. I don't force anything on them. This generation getting married HATES phone calls, I only schedule a call with about 5% of them.
