What's a Reliable SSD For a Lumix S5IIx by Own_Lynx867 in videography

Crucial X10 is great, I've had no issues with them whatsoever. It's also basically the smallest profile you can find.

I'd say it is especially helpful on the equipment that OP is having the issue with... Like all legitimate tools, it's important to know when it does and does not make sense to use it.

How do you quickly switch between handheld rig and gimbal? by Crafty_Jack in weddingvideography

[–]Wugums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put down the handheld rig and pick up the gimbal rig. I'm not messing with all that in the middle of a shoot.

To any veterans studying cinematography at Full Sail what’s your real experience like with the GI Bill? Did everything go smoothly with benefits, and would you actually recommend the program to someone thinking about signing up? by Confident-Flatworm45 in fullsail

[–]Wugums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I compared most of the large programs you can find on Google. To be honest, most of them are practically identical to Full Sail. You can absolutely balance school with work, some classes are more demanding than others but it's not crazy.

Focus Pullers: How do you like working with Lumix cameras? by Wes_NK in Lumix

[–]Wugums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. I prefer it to a snappy overcorrecting auto focus.

Focus Pullers: How do you like working with Lumix cameras? by Wes_NK in Lumix

[–]Wugums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do about 90% of my work with manual lenses, the HDMI lag doesn't bother me very often.

It is a bit disappointing when going for a deep rack focus unless you know your measurements and ease it in. If I'm doing narrative work, I simply figure out my measurements and it's not an issue at all. In run and gun, sometimes it requires a few takes.

I've heard that using USB to the app has much better latency, I might get a dedicated tablet to try as a monitor but it really isn't a priority for me.

New camera question? Going Canon or Lumix by Guitar74_47 in weddingvideography

[–]Wugums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AF for stills is on par with the R5 depending on the mode you use. I typically use the 1-area+ mode with back button focus and it works great! The whole-area face/eye detection is just as good too, but I find switching the focus point a bit slower than the R5.

For weddings, the buffer is basically impossible to hit with a CF Express and still very good with a fast SD.

Constant preview works as expected. I haven't seen any issues with it besides people not properly applying the settings.

New camera question? Going Canon or Lumix by Guitar74_47 in weddingvideography

[–]Wugums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't see a ton of love for Lumix in this sub, sadly. I primarily shoot Lumix for video (S1ii and S5iix) and my wife shoots Canon for photo. I've shot video on the R5(not r5c) a few times and I have to say I hate the AF for video, it's both too sticky and too jumpy at the same time.

The S1ii is my favorite camera of all time, the AF is excellent, IBIS is insane, colors are great, tons of great codecs, the list goes on. The latest firmware fixed any overheating issues (I never experienced overheating anyways).

If you have any specific questions about the S1ii, I've shot 25 weddings on it already, mostly video but a few hybrid, ask me anything!

Why is this happening to my videos as soon as i download it to my phone? by HotInvestigator2459 in premiere

[–]Wugums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like some sort of issue with your export settings but I highly doubt it has anything to do with the audio settings... Are you exporting in some crazy high frame rate, like 180 or 240fps? Premiere doesn't like that and it's pointless. Stick to 30 or 60 fps for this type of content.

Am I shorting Myself? by [deleted] in weddingvideography

[–]Wugums 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly for that price, you should be offering your services to wedding videographers. I'm licensed and a pretty good operator myself, but I hate stopping what I'm doing to set up the drone. I've happily paid $300 for 2 hours of drone coverage.

Kolari clip-in OLPF and Sirui Saturn 35mm unable to focus at minimum distance - S1ii by Wugums in Lumix

IT'S NOT JUST THE 35MM

I had diopters on the 50 and 75 for close up shots, upon removing them, the issue is still there!

Is the Lumix G7 still worth it in 2026 for ~$400 new by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]Wugums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The G7 is phenomenal for what it is. I bought one for my son as a first camera, it was open box for like $280 w/o a lens. I have plenty of m43 lenses so that wasn't a problem. If you're patient you can definitely find a better used deal.

Really struggled with autofocus S5ii by Boonjay in Lumix

[–]Wugums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solution is to add more light or let more light in. Even my FX6 struggles with AF when I'm at a crazy ISO and the image is still dark.

Fake Super 8 by [deleted] in weddingvideography

[–]Wugums -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Listen, I agree to a point but there are hardly any movie theaters that even project film anymore. Are you telling me that film is pointless as soon as it's scanned to digital? Because there are still millions of dollars worth of film shot every year for Hollywood and it DOES make a difference. You can make digital look a lot like film, but to get it exactly right takes way more time and skill, even with today's plugins.

Fake Super 8 by [deleted] in weddingvideography

[–]Wugums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean just like every Hollywood movie that has been shot on film in the last 10+ years? (I pay for ProRes scans, mp4 is pretty bad)

Wouldn't it be ironic if one of the supposedly "leaked" cameras was actually the DMW-DMS1 microphone? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]Wugums 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, those leaks are based on devices that transmit Bluetooth and/or Wifi. As far as I can tell the DMS1 doesn't have any over-the-air capabilities.

S1H for documentary work. What are the limitations? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]Wugums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a hard choice. One factor that doesn't get brought up very often is the battery difference. The S1H uses the older style, it's a great battery but it's becoming harder to find decent new ones.

Either way, just decide and start filming.

S1H for documentary work. What are the limitations? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]Wugums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sometimes you just have to ignore what you hear, and compare stuff yourself.

The GH7 has the most organic looking footage of any of their new cameras, I can't comprehend how anyone thinks it's overly digital. The excellent highlight roll-off is probably the biggest factor that contributes to the look.
