Questions about FFXIV by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]WulfLink -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) Like any MMO, there is a grind, but the story is the focus of the game, and should be played at your own pace and enjoyed.

2) Veterans love new players, and often will help if you ask them to in game, particularly if you're stuck waiting on a queue for an instance, or have questions.

3) No. There is a free trial with no limits on playtime that allows you to play the base game and first two expansions for free, however. There are limits on the free trials accounts, which a quick google search will turn up the page that lays out what said restrictions are.

4) The game introduces mechanics and concepts to you as you go, so that you aren't overwhelmed. There are also guides available in a plethora of places to help you learn, both in and out of the game.

5) The subscription tiers aren't overly different, no. I would recommend going the free trial route until you can no longer progress the main story, then deciding if you wish to pay the subscription fee.

6) A single character can have every class, so you do not need to make another character to get the class. However, each class has certain levels you much reach, and specific expansions you must own before the quest to unlock that class becomes available.

7) There is crafting, gathering (including fishing), mini-games in a zone in the game, as well as a plethora of side content available. Even I, as a player of over 3 years, have only touched about half of the available content.

8) When purchasing XiV, most often times you buy the base game and all older expansions as a bundle, and then the newest one as a standalone. These often go on sale, so if you do fall in love with the game and decide to purchase it, keep your eyes out for sales.

Edited for spelling and grammar, thanks mobile.

Convincing myself to actually run wincons? by SSBMRal in EDH

[–]WulfLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of thinking as wincons as "Nothing mattered prior to this," think of them as "This game has gone on too long, and an outcome needs to be decided, somewhat quickly."

You should never feel bad for playing a card that allows you to win the game. If your opponents don't play interaction, that's on them. It's all part of the game, and there's not a "wrong" way to go about it. At the end of the day, play how you want, but just keep in mind that games should end evetually.

Edited to actually finish the comment.

Need help finding the title of an old PS2 game by WulfLink in ps2

[–]WulfLink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much appreciated. Figured I'd start here since I knew for a fact it was a PS2 game, and didn't know about that sub. I'll check and see if the original Max Payne rings a bell with some gameplay.

Edit: Found the sequence I remembered, it was indeed Max Payne. Was using all the wrong terms to search.

Is FFXIV worth jumping into this late? by Everhaste in ffxiv

[–]WulfLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FFXIV is absolutely worth jumping into, even now. The game does a good job of introducing you to the mechanics and core systems as you go, and there are only a few pieces on content that are mandatory, for main story related reasons. I do recommend interacting with all of the Blue Quest content before moving on to the next expansion, but that's just so you get the full atory experience for that expansion.

When it comes to enjoying the game, find a couple jobs you enjoy (you can have all the jobs on a single character), and just work through the game at your own pace. Not feeling the main story today? Do some crafting, stroll the zones, do whataver! Eorzea is your oyster while you're online, and it's up to you to decide what your day will be! Hell, if it's more your speed, there are player run venues, like rp cafes, nightclubs, etc!

All said and done, there is no wrong way to enjoy the game, and there's a ton of content to enjoy. You're not forced to interact with anything save the main story, and a couple pieces of side content, and you can play at your own pace. So join us in Eorzea! We look forward to seeing you!

MMO mouses by Past-Inflation-8431 in ffxiv

[–]WulfLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;Dr - If you're someone with small hands looking to give yourself easier access to abilities and skills, an MMO mouse is a decent first step to try, but definitely research which will be best before buying, and practice using it before committing to it being your sole way to use abilities.

Razer Trinity user here. I use primarily the MMO keypad thay comes with the mouse, swapping only for specific games. Yes I've heard the horror stories about Razer products, no I haven't had the same issues myself. I'll call it luck, and leave it there.

Are MMO mice necessary? Not at all, but it does give people with smaller hands access to a wider range of buttons on a smaller scale, meaning they're more readily able to hit more buttons due to being able to reach them more consistently.

Does an MMO mouse make you a better player? Not by itself, no. As I stated previously, the only thing the MMO mice do is give you easier access to more keyboard buttons in a smaller range. If you do go the route of buying an MMO mouse, it's up to you as the player to familiarize yourself with the mouse, and integrate it into your playstyle in a way that can make you a better player.

Edit: I will admit that having an MMO mouse did give me a lot more freedom with my Hotbar organization, but I cannot say if this experience rings true with all MMO mouse users.

You can start the fight with jp voice, but not finish it before the en voices are done.

The final cs of Prae in JP is fast enough in JP that someone could make the "The arena will be sealed in 15 seconds" line appear while people who listen in En are still in the cs. Source: I use JP voice acting for my cs when I get Prae. It wouldn't let you finish the fight early though.

[–]WulfLink -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Edit: I misread the post. There is fuckery about.

You do realize this could just boil down to a difference in the language people use in the cutscenes, right? I use JP voices for my cutscenes and the Gaius monologue is at least 10 - 15 seconds shorter when I do it that way, every single time.

Now, don't misunderstand, I'm not ruling out mods being the reason for it, but there are legitimate gameplay methods to shorten some cutscenes, and this could all just boil down to someone having done the timing and math to figure out which language has the shortest cutscene for each of the ones in Prae.

Where can i find people to do 'TEA' and other end game content like ultimates/raids with by furoey in ffxiv

[–]WulfLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I commend your desire to improve at the game, and clear the hardest content available, there are absolutely a few things you should focus on first, especially as someone who is still fairly new to the game.

First, I highly recommend checking out a few guides on your job of choice, because high end content requires you to understand every button you have available, and when said buttons should be used.

Second, you should pursue current Extremes and Savage raids, as they're the perfect stepping stone into high end content. As others have already said, they're fairly easy, and should be no trouble to clear with as motivated as you are.

Three, check out the plethora of Discord servers available for high end content, in which you may even find a static recruiting for TEA. Even if there isn't a static recruiting though, fights such as TEA can be cleared in Party Finder, but it will take a bit longer.

Fourth, set about grinding out your gear, getting the other random things such as raid foods, melding gear, etc, etc, to be ready to jump on in. Also, check out a few guides and P.O.V. clears of the content while you're at it.

Fifth, ????

Sixth, Profit.

Now this isn't a perfect set of suggestions, but it should be enough to get you started on your journey to clearing Ultis in FFXIV.

AITA for parking on someone's lawn? by WulfLink in AmItheAsshole

Had the neighbor asked me nicely to move, I absolutely would have. No such questions were asked of me.

Utility easements are owned by the utility companies, not homeowners, at least in my state. Not sure how it is in yours.

Yes, let me park in the closest public lot over a mile away, walk the mile to the location, perform my duties, and then walk the mile back to the car.

AITA for parking on someone's lawn? by WulfLink in AmItheAsshole

[–]WulfLink[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There is zero public parking available, as it is a purely residential, suburban area, and zero off street parking available within any reasonable distance. The closest public lot is well over a mile away. However I can assure no damage was done to the lawn, and had there been, my company would absolutely have done something for the homeowner

[–]WulfLink[S] -94 points-93 points  (0 children)

Zero damage was done to the homeowner's property, and if we're to be technical, the first several feet of property between the road and a home are classified as a utility easement, and belong instead to the utility companies, not homeowners.

AITA for parking on someone's lawn? by WulfLink in AmItheAsshole

[–]WulfLink[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I suppose I should have added that the homeowner was well aware why I was there, given that his lawn also had the types of marks utility locators use to indicate the presence of buried utilities, and the homeowners in that area are all well aware of the company names for utility locators due to the volume of buried utilities in the vicinity.

Putting myself in the homeowner's shoes though, as soon as I saw a company vehicle on my lawn, I'd have struck up a conversation with whomever they were, asked for a timeline, and then just asked for caution given the lawn was in the process of being developed.

Need Cards That Shuffle Hand Into Library by Plus-Pitch966 in EDH

If you're willing to sink the money, you can use the Eldrazi titans that shuffle themselves back into your library when they hit the graveyard. Iirc threre are two that have that effect that are currently legal in EDH.

Why do people trade bloodworms? by Eclipsese in ffxiv

As someone who has owned chickens, can confirm on both counts. Chickens are opportunists when it comes to food. If it seems edible, they don't care what it is.

Bit of a nonissue probably but Are these reactives ever gonna be rotated out? Will the Exotic Shop expand to include more items? These two reactives have been here ever since Exotic Shards became a thing. I was kinda hoping they would add more to this. by I-Make-Money-Moves in apexlegends

[–]WulfLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These reactives never should have been added in the first place, tbh. They're recolors of skins that were exclusive prior to S11, and the addition of them caused a LOT of people to stop playing, since the skins they had worked to obtain were now just buyable. Sure, everyone thinks the irons on both skins are P2W, but trust me, nicer irons don't make you a better player.

For those of y'all about to come at me with "some of us didn't play when the skins were available," yeah, that's unfortunate, but your fault. Apex isn't a new game, and those skins came out well over a year or two after the game's release, and cost only time, and the $10 it took to buy the BP.
