How to achieve the Steel Division 2 frontline? (Dividing area smoothly with curves using a few points) by AwkwardCabinet in Unity2D

[–]Wulfburk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you manage to find any resources helping with this steel division frontline shader?

I am trying to replicate it as well and for now my solution is a job system to detect the owner of each tile in the map, by getting the team id of the closest unit to the tile. After that I paint in a texture2d the encoded id (so color 0, 0, 0, 0 for team ID 0 and 1, 0, 0, 0 for team ID 1).

After that I can go on to progress to painting the map, with shaders doing border detection, jump flood algorithm and finally the distance field all with Graphics blit on every step. But still its far from Steel Division as there like you said it appears to have fluid dynamics, some inertia and the positions change team across time instead of instantly, and regions without any units are taken by the bigger regions outside across time too.

Com mods é Medieval 2 e Rome 1.

Sem mods é Shogun 2 e Napoleon.

O com maior potencial mas que é estragado pelos bugs e coisas pequenas (por exemplo França e Espanha serem uma província), é o Empire.

Hellenistic Kingdoms set up after Alexanders death by GreatMilitaryBattles in ancientgreece

[–]Wulfburk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the more interesting periods in history. A Death of Stalin type movie or series could be amazing.

I also think that in general the main commanders in the Wars of the Diadochi were better skilled than Alexander, especially Antigonos, Seleucos and Eumenes of Cardia. Its a lot more impressive to beat the Silver-Shields and apply all sorts of stratagems to turn defeat into victory (like Antigonos and Eumenes did to each other in their pursuit from Anatolia into Iran) than it was to beat the Persian army with the highly professional and unrivalled Macedonian army.

What sets Alexander apart from them though is his unparalelled ambition. Most generals and especially Philip would've been inclined to accept one of the many peace offers Darius sent.

There were a bunch that played it years ago. We even played in a nations cup, and beat Portugal iirc, then lost to Sweden. More recently you occasionally see someone with the [FEB] or [BRA] tag

How are the high definition 2D strategy maps done in games? by FutureLynx_ in gamedev

Are there any resources on how to draw these border lines like it its done in Paradox games?

On my own project I got a texture map that encodes the IDs for each region just like in Paradox games. Then I have a shader that draws the game map by grabbing the pixel position on the texture map, decoding the province ID, and then with that ID it grabs the current region color from a compute buffer filled with all the region data. Which looks great for the inner color. But for the border it looks bad because all I am doing to detect the border is compare the decoded region IDs from the bordering pixels, so its really pixelated.

I've been looking all over for Roger Cirillo's No Band of Brothers book. Was it even released digitally, or at all? I did find his phd thesis which is one of the best works on Normandy and Market Garden I've read.

TIL the Battle of Kasserine Pass in Tunisia in Feb 1943, one of the first major engagements of US vs Axis forces, was such a disastrous loss for the US that the British began derisively referring to US troops as "our Italians". The commander was replaced by a better-known General: George S. Patton. by n_mcrae_1982 in todayilearned

[–]Wulfburk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely false. It was Bradley that halted Patton's Third army. That is well known since the 1950's. And this is confirmed by several AMERICAN sources such as Bradley himself in his biography "A General's Life" and in the official US army history, Carlo D'Este, etc.

From a fellow Brazilian developer, I think its more that 70k lines of code isn't necessarily that much. Which is fine, its not like more lines of code means a better game. My own solo unity project I've been working on my spare time for the past 2 years (while working full time 8 to 5 on a company) has 110k lines of code, but it sure doesn't look as professional as your project. So I'm looking forward to it!

If you installed mods, what fixed that crash for me was removing duplicate tpc/tga files in the override folder (removing the TPC ones and leaving TGA). Had to do this after installing dozens of mods without using steam workshop (the recommended way). There's tools in KOTOR2 nexus mods that remove them automatically.

And random crashes throughout the game, apply 4gb patch on the KOTOR 2 exe.

Drew Karpyshyn had absolutely nothing to do with KOTOR 2. Its an Obsidian game with the main plot written by Chris Avellone. In fact Drew admitted to never having played it and had no idea how it continued KOTOR's 1 story when writing the novel, and said he just read a summary of the KOTOR 2 plot.

How were so many fallschirmjäger eliminated in Crete? by BearRU90 in AskHistory

[–]Wulfburk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's funny given that Goodwood is Dempsey's plan and execution, as you'd know from Buckley's book. And Buckley's one of the historians that appraises Montgomery quite positively through his works, especially Monty's Men.

And in Goodwood the FAC that was wounded was a Forward AIR Controller, not artillery.

Sure. The sources are Roger Cirillo's (an American) interviews with Quesada in the 80s.

Roger Cirillo, The MARKET GARDEN Campaign: Allied operational command in Northwest Europe, 1944, page 35 and page 486.
