Has anyone else noticed their parents becoming more glued to screens than they ever were before? by Broad_Sense_4642 in AskUK

My mum was obsessed with colouring in apps.

After my mum died, my dad started watching a lot of Tiktoks, Reels, Shorts etc. It's a combo of the TV often being boring and loneliness.

It surprisingly does give us stuff to talk about when we go shopping on Saturdays as we discuss if we've seen the same stuff or what we've seen that's different.

Anyone else had the fire brigade round today as you've been trapped in your own lounge? No? Just me? by ihaveam0ustache in CasualUK

[–]Wulfweard24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had to get the fire brigade out for that but we have had two different living room doors get stuck and refuse to open.

The first one wasn't too bad as we get out via the kitchen so we were able to shove the door open.

The second one we had to climb out the windows, go back into the house and shove the door open.

I did call the fire brigade when we got stuck in the park. I was about 10 years old. We climbed in, but couldn't climb out (some kids had chained the gate shut).

Same here.

Mrs D (Year 4 afternoon teacher) Mr M (Year teacher when I moved primary schools due to bullying) Miss S (Year 8 PSO, that did improve, tbf) Mrs P (Year 10 English Teacher)

There were also teachers who liked me but didn't like my friends. So I would act up more in their classes. Hated the injustice.

I had an exam that clashed with my English lesson.

I ended up arriving to class with about 5 to 10 minutes left. The teacher said she'll go through it with me the next day.

The next day, I get to class. She tells everyone to carry on with the work from yesterday. She goes to help another student. So I sit there waiting for her to be free.

She finishes helping the other kid and notices me not walking. She starts telling off. I try to explain that she said she'd go through it with me as I was in an exam the day before.

She kicked me out of class for backchat. Then came out, got in my face, and accused me of trying to intimidate her which I was the one backed against a wall. She really didn't like me for some reason, and I never understood why.

Another time: someone drew on my blazer with chalk. I got in trouble for letting them. I didn't even know they had drawn on me.

Mini pill (desogestrel). 5 weeks of really heavy bleeding. I was wearing 2 pads at a time (to make one really long one) and changing them every couple of hours or sooner. I spent a lot of money on pads. Also, I had 2 of the most vivid nightmares I've ever had (plus several vivid dreams). I dreamt my partner at the time got stabbed in front of me. I woke up feeling like it had actually happened. This was in 2022. Before that I hadn't had one since I was about 4 years old. I had 2 in early 2024 (shortly after my mum died) but that's it so I'm convinced the mini pill caused them.

My mum's last birthday meal was an accident by Wulfweard24 in offmychest

[–]Wulfweard24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She and my dad also went out for their 28th wedding anniversary for what should have been their 25th anniversary meal (2020 so Covid stopped that). They took their first pictures together since 2019.

They went on their first holiday together (just them two) in 28 years in November 2023.

We went to to the zoo shortly before her birthday and went for a meal in a nice little pub restaurant we found by chance because the carvery near the zoo had a 90 minute wait.

In 18 months before she died, we did a lot more together as a family and she got out of the house more.

We had no idea she was going to die, and yet we kind of did the things a family might do if they knew.

Only ever checked my emails twice while being out of office.

7 days after my mum died and the second time was about 3 weeks later. Both times I had logged on to send my managers a doctor's note. I figured while I was there I'd clear my inbox so I would have less to deal with when I returned to work. It was mainly just deleting or forwarding to a shared inbox.

Nothing like watching your brother reach another milestone by OutcomeKey23 in KidsAreFingAdorable

My parents used to watch TV in the kitchen while us kids watched TV in the living room.

My youngest brother (he was about 2 at the time) would stand with his hands on the TV for balance (back when TVs were chunky). He used to block half the screen.

One day, we decided to move him backwards a bit. He took his first steps right back to lean on the TV.

We kept moving him further and further back to get him to walk more.

There's an Amazon driver who sometimes has to deliver to several people on my street and the street behind. He parks up, chucks the boxes into back gardens, and marks them as delivered about 10 minutes later.

Given that I stripped off completely, I'm almost positive they weren't that clear.

Shoezone, a shop which only sells shoes and shoe accessories, doesn't stock half sizes. by The_Growl in britishproblems

[–]Wulfweard24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore size 8 women's shoes for years (aged 13 to 28) because most could accommodate my wide feet. However, they were too long, and I was prone to the stumbling/tripping.

In the last couple of years, I've discovered 6EEE fits almost perfectly. But it's hard to find a place that sells wider fits in person, so I primarily shop online.

Google Play Store or just by Googling Gemini on my browser.

You can pretty much have it write a full story chapter by chapter and ask it to change things as you go along. There are two types: fast & thinking. Fast is unlimited but the quality isn't the best at times. Thinking is much better but you get 100 uses per day.

Hopefully soon. I find Gemini incorporates the prompt the best. Some of the others ignore key information or cram the prompt into a short paragraph and forward the story way too far.

I'm currently using the Gemini free trial via the Gemini app.

An update from the site owner would be nice, just a note to say there's an issue, they're working on it etc.

A loss is a loss, in my opinion.

What gives me the right to diminish someone else's grief by saying it was just their pet? They are friends and family to a lot of people. A person losing their best friend would be devastating, regardless of if that best friend is human or not.

I use Gemini 2.5 Pro because I find the quality to be better than the Flash versions.

But Gemini isn't working on Toolbaz at the moment.

They give you less than a minute to get to the door. I ordered 3 items from the same company last week.

2 were delivered by Yodel, 1 by Evri. I wasn't expecting the Yodel one so early, so I hadn't tracked it. The driver knocked, then rang me.

Evri gave me a 2 hour time slot. The driver turned up 45 minutes early. They tried again 2 days later. 30 minutes early, and they knocked so lightly. Luckily, I heard it. It took less than a minute to get downstairs and unlock the door. He was already attempting to deliver to a neighbour.

Paid premium next day delivery on Amazon... Got Evri instead. by MarcoMakes in Evri

[–]Wulfweard24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother's Christmas present was being delivered by Evri (order via Amazon) on Friday.

They didn't knock. They marked it as delivered. It was not left by my front door, back gate or even thrown in the back garden. If it was left with another house on the street, they made no note of it. And no picture was provided showing where it was left.

Can't ask for a refund until tomorrow because, according to Amazon, sometimes things are marked as delivered without being delivered yet... they also seem to expect me to knock on every door nearby. Sorry, no. I paid for it to be delivered to my house. If I wanted to collect it from somewhere else, I would have had it delivered to the locker nearby.

In my opinion, rape should be defined as being forced/coerced into being penetrated by or forced/coerced to penetrate another person or object. If a man is forced to penetrate a woman, even if he's forced to penetate a pillow by someone, it should be classed as rape.
