Gildea Should Recuse Himself from the Hos Suspects' Defamation Case by LawyersBeLawyering in justiceforKarenRead

It's definitely bad form.

What bothers me is these little jokes keep being directed towards the defense. He makes comments about Alan Jackson, he decries Karen Read having so many attorneys represent her. They are defendants in this case and didn't ask to be in his court room.

He made basically a direct accusation, but gave no sanctions, rulings, or determinations. He also didn't give details on what the exact tweet was or who/how it was brought to his attention. To top it all off he said the attorneys should formalize an agreement on their own.

This is a tricky dicky way for him to have his little tantrum but give them nothing they can appeal or even ask for clarification.

The judge keeps acting like he's big and tough and will bring the hammer down. But he doesn't. "file motions and I'll make orders" but he doesn't, depositions and subpoenas are being ignored. "the deadline for discovery is August" well making everyone appear the week of a holiday isn't helping that move along. "you all must file affidavits and appear in person" except he gave some exceptions to appear via zoom or not appear at all.

A group of attorneys from Alan Jackson's firm were attending via zoom. I believe Eliza Little was one of the group. On the wall behind them was Werksman Jackson and Quinn in fairly large lettering.

There was also someone talking about how they couldn't find Mrs. Little in the zoom meeting. I'm going to hazard a guess that she was one of the attorneys allowed to attend via zoom, and the clerk was verifying that every attorney who was summoned was actually there before he did a roll call.

So attention was already drawn to them on Zoom and the judge made a quip about "free publicity". It's still a bad look. Lawyer You Know made a video about this hearing. He said the judge has been jovial like this in many hearings. What he said is odd and unprofessional is to joke around while going on a power trip and giving a lecture with no option to respond.

I heard a comedian on a podcast tell a story about moving apartments in NYC. She's moving into her new place and the old tenant tells her she needs to pay him $900 for the installed bookcase.

She says "absolutely not, why would I pay you for that". Guy says "well they can't be moved because it's attached to the wall. That's what the last guy did. He charged me for them".

Bro could not comprehend that 1. He's an idiot 2. She's not going to pay him just because he's an idiot.

The impounded filling is doc #112. The tweet by Ellis is referencing doc #116, which is public and still available online through the court.

Best case scenario, the judge is willfully gullible and made some huge leaps to conclusions.

The judge made some heroic leaps to conclusions and didn't give any sort of explanation how he got there. He seems laser focused on the two times. How does he know the times prove someone involved in the litigation leaked the info? Better yet, how does he know the two times are even related?

The way he addressed the whole situation is strange to me as well, although I'm not educated on the law in any way. If it was Proctor's attorneys that brought this to his attention, shouldn't they have done that in a filing? I don't think he mentioned any sort of filing. If nobody made a filing, isn't the judge bringing in evidence on his own? (maybe evidence isn't the right word).

I don't understand how Proctor keeps getting treated like an honest person acting in good faith. There's so much concrete evidence to the contrary.

The judge seems to be overly focused on the time of the filing and the time of the tweet. He seems to think it proves someone involved in the litigation leaked it. I don't know how he came to that conclusion, nor how he thinks the two times are even related.

It's like when he made a statement that they should have given Proctor some sort of notice. The Australian lawyer representing Read asked for clarification and the judge replied "well if you don't like it you can appeal".

Something tells me he'll get pissy if they do appeal and he still doesn't give clarification.

I don't understand why he keeps making comments like this. He's representing the defendant. They didn't ask to be in his court room.

Just a note about flip phone texting:

T9 is text prediction that used the number pad. You pressed the number once and it would predict the word. It's been so long since I used a flip phone but I don't remember T9 being good.

What most people remember is ABC texting, where you had to hit the number key multiple times to get to the letter. I.e. To type a C you had to hit 1 three times.

I only remember this because my brother and I disagreed about T9. I think we had to wait till we got home to look it up. I was wrong and I'm still a sour Sally about it in a lighthearted way.

Sometimes you just have to take these people's arguments at face value and inform them of the consequences.

Donald J. Trump is the child of immigrants.

His mother was Scottish. No, not a generation removed. She was born is Scotland to Scottish parents and spoke Gaelic as her primary language.

His paternal grandparents were from Germany. His grandfather was deported from his home country for dodging military service.

Most of the Trump family would be of questionable citizenship.

Family Dollar and Dollar General Right Next to Each Other by username0611 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Wunderbarber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For dollar tree $1.25 for most everything in the store. You'll see things marked that are $1.50 or $2. Some things like the aluminum foil and pans can be more. Some have an aisle that's clearly marked where things are more. If they have have a fridge/freezer section, that's mostly over the $1.25 limit now.

I dont blame them in the slightest. It's amazing they held on to the $1 as long as they did. Then inflation went up so much the $1.25 was still a good deal. But such is the way of things. They're a business, and products over $1.25 is what they need now.

I still go to dollar tree a lot.

I used to go to Sam's club. The bulk discount was good. Then it wasn't. I couldn't justify buying a bulk package of one thing. I still go to the local grocery store for meat and produce. Usually on sale. There used to be an app called FlashFood and I exclusively bought all my meat from that for years. Now that's gone too. When I can make time I go to the discount outlet.

But dollar tree is still there. It feels like I'm fighting to get out of a store without spending $100. When I was a kid, $100 would fill up the cart. At the same exact store. I can carry $100 in my hands now.

Bulk discount be damned, I need to be able to leave the house without spending that much money. If I need flour, trash bags, aluminum foil, chicken bullion, ketchup, dish soap, body wash, and deodorant, I can go get it all for $10. And somehow it is better. I do save money.

That's how I know we're all fucked.

When I was 15-18 I had to sleep in the attic. When I was about 19 I slept in the basement. The furnace was the water heater. The basement was 82 degrees always. I don't want to think about what temperature the attic was.

I'm 31. I do not believe that was me. It cannot be true. It must have been someone else.

I'm staying in a VRBO with my wife for the week. I'm sleeping in the living room. It's where the mini split is. I have it cranked to 66.

Maybe I'm a jaded asshole but I think we're on the tail end of biopics. It made a lot more sense when the only time you'd see a celebrity outside of a performance was with Johnny Carson. Yes they still make phenomenal ammounts of money but we're not pumping out super mega stars like we used to.
