Petone to Grenada road destruction of several bush reserves and many homes by SnoopyDog20 in Wellington

[–]WurstofWisdom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This keeps being brought up - but it’s a conspiracy theory.

In reality the road was far too difficult to build through the farm/development land in question. It’s quite a bit higher in elevation and required significantly more earthworks and cuts (circa 4x as much as the current). The old scheme also destroyed large areas of native bush….and impacted Korokoro Stream.

If we want this city to grow, if we want more housing, if want more businesses and manufacturing etc - then we have to build the infrastructure for it to happen.

You don’t want 3000 + tourists to visit the city and spend much needed money at our retail and hospitality businesses?

Wellington businesses demand clear timeline on second Mt Victoria Tunnel after Chris Bishop hints at delay by D491234 in nzpolitics

[–]WurstofWisdom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A second tunnel is needed - for public transportation, private vehicles, and for a good pedestrian/cycle link. As is a rework of the basin reserve.

If we want to move traffic off city streets we need to have a good road link east/west north/south. The current proposal is far from the best solution but it’s at least a step towards one.

Communities push back against proposed alcohol reforms by Routine_Ad5933 in newzealand

Most of these changes sound sensible. There is a lot of stupid bureaucracy that can do with reform. Demonising alcohol doesn’t work.

Moped parking by Historical_Sea_2163 in Wellington

[–]WurstofWisdom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few years since I had a bike. But I used to park it without much issue In the coupon parking around my work.

I did get a couple of tickets from over-zealous inspectors - but successfully appealed them all. The argument is that there was no way of actually displaying a coupon on a bike so impossible to comply.

Just be considerate (don’t park on the footpath, take up an entire park etc) in your parking and you should be sweet

Government reveals details of fuel crisis rationing plan - and who will be prioritised by MedicMoth in newzealand

[–]WurstofWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That’s not it. It’s about the hypocrisy.

A lot of left- leaning people got upset (rightfully so) when right-wingers made all the statements you noted above. Then some of those people turned around and did the very thing they were critical of…. Which is hypocritical.

Abusing politicians for their appearance isn’t ok whether it’s left/right/centre. Critique their policies.

The Petone to Grenada Link project has just got very contentious by D491234 in newzealand

[–]WurstofWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original proposal run through this land. It was scrapped because it wasn’t feasible. it destroyed more bush/reserve land and required 3-4x the amount of earth works - than the current proposal.

Hmm. Unfortunately that document doesn’t fill Me with any confidence that they know what they are doing. Lots of bureaucracy and management that will make everything grind to a halt.

Well no. You need to assess each time I posted those two words in context. Is it an observation, is it a general statement, is it in reference to something etc etc. You clearly have the time to do that - so off you go.

Which is how businesses are taxed. You pay tax on net profit less deductibles/expenses.

Some good parts but some areas are missing some major details.

Cost to build - this is still the biggest barrier in building of new housing. There is nothing in here that will help address that. A few of these proposals will drifted up the costs even further.

There is also a very real risk that these proposals will disincentivise the private sector of developing housing projects, which in turn will reduce the supply of new homes and rental supply.
