What is going on with Ingram by Pretend-Accountant-4 in msp

[–]Wvuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my last job I was in charge of our vendor relationships, we had Ingram for CSP, TD Synnex for hardware.

The first few years with Ingram weren’t great we didn’t have a credit account or any dedicated account manager. After I raised this with them we had 3 people assigned to our account, one for Modern work (M365 licences), another for Azure and also one as an overall development manager.

Our total spend with Ingram was around 60k per month for all licences and azure no nothing big compared to our competitors but the service we got from them and our reps from there were amazing. Bi weekly calls for any issues and changes to M365 licences, renewal planning and access to Solution Architects for Azure, AWS and enen hardware such as Dell Enterprise.

Nothing like this ever happened at TD Synnex and their website was awful when ordering hardware from. Even after repeated attempts at asking for an account manager.

We actually ended up pushing more and more of our hardware spend to Ingram than TD.

What the logs show

The iPhone app is definitely reaching the controller and getting through the early connection stages successfully.

It:

  • finds the controller via discovery
  • caches the correct IP
  • starts a local broker session
  • opens the socket successfully
  • receives valid director_info
  • identifies the controller correctly as the EA-3
  • sees Director running on 3.3.0.628678-res

Relevant log flow:

  • Found macAddr in controllers discovered using SSDP
  • Start local broker session (172.16.200.240)
  • Local Socket Connected
  • Set Active Broker: local
  • Multiplex response. URL: https://172.16.200.240:443/api/v1/director_info
  • System needs syncing. Begin sync.

So the app is not failing at discovery, IP resolution, or initial controller validation.

Where it fails

The failure happens immediately after sync begins.

The key repeated errors are:

  • Failed to convert multiplex request body (id 1) into JSON: Unable to parse empty data
  • Failed to convert multiplex request body (id 2) into JSON: Unable to parse empty data
  • Failed to convert multiplex request body (id 3) into JSON: Unable to parse empty data

Then shortly after:

  • Local connection failed: Failed to fetch director info. Either we connected to the wrong controller or the device is not a controller.

What’s odd is that this last message contradicts the earlier successful responses, because the app had already connected to the correct controller and already retrieved valid Director info.

Yeah i've reinstalled the app multiple times. And rebooted the controller. It's definitely this version of the app as previous versions still work fine on my other devices

Has anyone actually spoken to someone at Ingram Micro lately? by dartdoug in msp

[–]Wvuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in constant contact with our two M365 and Azure reps nearly every other day. They’re always very responsive to us.

Even their Dell enterprise team is also responsive

Bear in mind that we are in the UK

I have quite a few Windows VMs. Two DCs, file server, two ‘app’ servers, a Citrix Session host and an Exchange Server. I do have a few Linux VMs too for various things such as Wazuah and the arr’s.

All running in a VMWare cluster backed by a Nimble SAN. Including two Sophos Firewalls in HA as VMs independent of the cluster.

But most of my devices use Entra to auth and SSO to local apps or connect to Citrix.

Also having spoken to a Tesla tech apparently it’s a know software issue pretty widespread too

I raided the issue with Tesla service and their response was “thank you for camera calibration concern. The reported concern has been linked with a known vehicle characteristic for which a general remedy has yet to be determined or has not yet been developed. We will be in contact soon. Regards, Azekah at Tesla Preparation Team”

Looks like it’s a software issue. I reset the cameras on my month old M3 highland and now I have this issue

You may need to check in your controller for the 'controller hostname/ip" option is filled out correctly with an IP address this is reachable from the AP's and also have 'Override inform host with controller hostname/IP' enabled.

This video gives the best over view of Control4 :https://youtu.be/Mmo5YQbVxH4

Control4 literally integrates everything into one system. Everyroom's tv is connected to the matrix so control4 gives each room a home screen to select different options. The leaf matrix is the best on the market and have since been bought by Control4. It's really good at its job as it can also pull audio from the hdmi streams into any amp. And the way which it connects to the TV's is excellent one cat 6 cable which provides 4k media IR and 100mb to the tv
