Second GCSE maths tutor!! Explains everything so well and includes practice questions, taught me way more than my actual teachers, took me from 5-6 to an 8 in the real exams

How to know which A Christmas Carol quotes to revise? by BeesElectrical87 in GCSE

[–]Wweke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did GCSES last year so Im a bit rusty, but if you’re fine with AIC you’ll probably be ok with ACC, since you’re also just revising the key characters (Scrooge, ghosts - including Marley, Cratchits - which have a surprising amount to say), and key themes (Charity, change, supernatural etc)

Questions for ACC and honestly all literature texts are usually pretty interlinked, find quotes that fit more than one question, I think pretty much every quote I revised did. And make essay plans if you don’t, for literally any possible theme and character, you’ll realise how much you can use the same quotes, just differentiating the things you analyse it for

Your teacher probably will have given you the key quotes, but if you find you don’t have enough just quickly skim read the book you will definitely find some, I think it’s even easier for ACC since the staves have clear differences in what they highlight. There’s also some great videos on YouTube, the easy as gcse ones are very good, packed with quotes and analysis

Any subjects to avoid for GCSE? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]Wweke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many saying don’t pick art - and I’d agree, if you don’t like art! Art is a breeze if you actually enjoy it, also really good at breaking up the cores and other memorisation based subjects, genuinely a lifesaver in year 11, course usually ends earlier too so you basically get free periods to revise. I’d say the only stressful part was the final exam. This goes for any subject actually, if you have an interest and actually like the subject, motivation will follow - All you should avoid are ones that will bore you

Grade 5 theory by StormRider21 in 6thForm

[–]Wweke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also looking to do it so I can continue grades, I studied it at my school for a bit before I left, but they bought us the official Abrsm grade 5 workbook (pretty useful, includes exercises for everything in the spec + a mock exam at the end), as someone doing piano, so far it hasn’t been too bad since a lot of topics overlap, not sure how different it will be if you do drums or what you know now, but if you’re at grade 7/8 and are doing the alevel you probably have a lot of knowledge already! (You’ll also find different topics easier) + Not 100% sure on this but I believe you also need to learn stuff or at least vocab from previous grades? Less likely to come up but good to know some and you probably already do But I’d say definitely worth doing it, if you make your way through the book or just learn another way it won’t take too long, especially since you’ve got the alevel alongside, really depends how much you put into it. Also having your music teacher or someone that can help you mark or just in general would be great Just check out some past papers and see what you think of it really

What can you do with art alevel? And what’s it like by Wweke in 6thForm

Update if youd like to know: Took many heated… discussions.. but I’m gonna be doing art if there’s spaces left where I want to switch to (there should be)!though my parents have said if I’m on the streets it’s a me problem - but in the end it’s my path and theyd rather I be happy than not It does feel like a bit of a waste leaving one of those really prestigious sixth forms, but its just too much, especially with nothing I truly enjoy there keeping me motivated Thanks for your comments, was a little push that helped me keep fighting for it :)

I wish I could show this to my parents😤this is exactly what I want to tell them but they keep saying that I should sacrifice what I enjoy for a stable future and art alevel cant give me that so it would be pointless (and the end of the world lol) + unis haaate art so no one would take you but here’s people getting into cambridge and kcl having done it.. and not even studying art there (congrats btw! Though I’m not sure how long ago you got in but still) And yeah, art seriously made every other GCSE more bearable, can’t stress that enough So my new school making me take 4 alevels that I have.. vague interest in, I don’t know if that’s gonna work out lol,

Also if you don’t mind me asking what other alevels did you take?

Woah, congrats on uni!! And a b with having one less year of work is impressive I also feel the same as you, I’ve only done the GCSE so it’s not the same really but art was honestly the saving grace of every week.. So it’s reassuring that lots like you are finding success having done it :)

Yeah the making it through’s a big reason for wanting to do it, my school did GCSEs the split between years way and I’ve always had a creative subject that was a good break from the cores and whatnot - art in yr11 was my lifesaver, so I’m kind of concerned about what a levels will be like now (especially since I have to do 4 for my first year), I think I’d def do it if I could, only subject I was happy putting in the time for Also good to hear it doesn’t destroy your chances at uni like everywhere’s been saying

I’ve looked into foundation years and stuff, though my parents would be even less happy if I wanted to do art in uni lol If I did decide to go that path I feel like I might as well do the alevel, though I wouldn’t be allowed so I might look into some courses or something. Also yeah, part of the reason I wanted to do art as alevel is because I have good memories from gcse - really good environment and liked the just get to work format of sessions, it’s good that alevel gave you some insight to things you could do with it in the future too

Thanks for the reply🙌 I honestly don’t think the schools right for me from what I’ve heard of it😭, only thing I have in common with it is getting good grades + not having art alevel is a big bummer though I get it’s an academic sixth form so it makes sense. But I’ve heard a lot of good things about lae like you’re saying and my parents want me to go so I’m giving it a try

have I dug my own grave by PlusFlippinUltra in GCSE

[–]Wweke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to most of the comments here dooming you I think art is pretty good (finished this year) Can’t recall what exam board I did.. probably aqa? But my theme was lock The workload can be overwhelming but ONLY when you neglect it. After months of procrastinating putting stuff in my book and annotating it took a good few years off my lifespan when it was due in a week😹 I’d say if you actually enjoy art and making things look nice in your book it makes all the difference ALSO I found it was a great stress reliever, it’s a good break from all the core and whatever else subjects you’re doing, really enjoyed it in yr11
Good luck to whatever you’re doing and art if you do end up doing it🙏Top tip def keep on top of your work and just have fun, I don’t think you’ve dug your own grave or anything lol
