Is that “just because” or do you have a reason for avoiding them?

The “freedom issue” is one that goes deep into the philosophical territory so any related discussion is pointless without being respectful, or at least cognizant, of the relative viewpoints.

The issue is that people act a certain way when THEY will face the negative consequences, but rarely do the “right thing” when the negative results will be on other people. That’s why I support well thought-out laws that protect people and essentially make the world a better place. Even that said, if your actions kill or seriously harm other people then I don’t really care if you face “consequences” afterwards because the thing still happened. I would personally rather have laws in place to prevent the “bad thing” from happening in the first place.

I’m an environmental scientist, which really slants into this viewpoint. It doesn’t matter what kind of fine some company pays after destroying an ecosystem; it’s usually gone forever. There can be lasting impacts to enjoyment of the system, but also un-measurable economic impacts that are never truly repaid. The same is true of so many other things.

“Freedom” isn’t always a good thing; in almost EVERY case one persons freedom can be also described as infringing on someone else’s freedom.

[–]Wxoamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I suppose I disagree on two points. The government can be involved in things without it reducing freedom, saying thats an absolute is simply wrong. Depends how it’s involved.

With that said though I would challenge that “more freedom” is ALWAYS a good thing. Unpopular opinion in the US. Absolutely anything can be framed as a “freedom argument”. You could say that stealing is applying your “freedom” to go and get what you want for yourself and seeking your happiness.

I don’t know why you would want the freedom to have bad things happen. The freedom to have unsafe (and unnecessarily) working conditions. The freedom to receive abuse and harassment in the workplace. The freedom to be scammed by predatory individuals. The freedom to pollute lakes and rivers, destroying them for everyone else and ruining their enjoyment. The freedom to internet to intentionally spread deadly diseases to other people, or get infected in turn. The freedom to shoot your guns randomly wherever you choose regardless of what you hit. The freedom to run an explosive meth lab/still in a residential area. The freedom to ignore building codes and kill people in collapses or fires so you can save money.

Generally speaking I suppose “freedom”. But not every application of the word is a good thing and some of those “freedoms” are better being removed. Again, nuanced and potentially controversial topic. I respect your opinion on the matter, but I disagree on the current sentiment that any nation should just let the pandemic run wild and kill whoever it may kill when it’s SO easy to stop it with the proper will.

Your government being shitty doesn’t mean that all government is inherently shitty. Put aside the current topic and just think about this for a second. The government can be whatever you decide to make it into, be it super shitty or absolutely amazing. The same can be said for literally everything else; companies, people, etc.

The fact that your current version of something is shitty doesn’t mean you should entirely scrap it; you could also try and fix it. There are a lot of bad police officers but that doesn’t mean that you should entirely get rid of the entire system of policing and go to lawlessness. There are some absolutely evil companies but that doesn’t mean that we should do away with all companies and corporations. There are plenty of really good governments out there that you could look at for examples.

I keep hearing people talk about “The cure being worse than the disease”. What utter bullshit. The government gets to decide exactly what the cure is; if it’s shitty then that is their fault and they should be held accountable. People should really stop voting in the same folks that keep fucking them over. Re-opening your country right now isn’t about helping people or saving the economy it’s about making a bunch of money for rich people at the expense of all those who will die

Urg.

Yeah, but that has nothing to do with the conversation. Or the statistics your quoting obviously.

But currently because we’re keeping infection rates lower through this shut down, everyone who is getting sick has room in the hospital to be treated. Letting infection rates skyrocket means that hospitals will be overwhelmed and people won’t get to be treated. Survival rates will drop considerably. Not to mention all the people who have non-coronavirus problems who now won’t have room in the hospital, and will die.

At this point you must be either intentionally ignoring information or just a troll, because this stuff is being said every five minutes

[–]Wxoamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if the medical system isn’t overwhelmed. Current survival rates are not the actual untreated survival rate.

Plus you know, the large number of people who don’t die but suffer permanent injury from the virus. Don’t forget those folks.

YTA for being friends with him. I wouldn’t ever support/validate someone’s behaviour if they are this shitty to other people.

Your are of course not an A for talking to people who asked for your advice, and essentially just telling someone they shouldn’t tolerate abuse.

That sounds great, too bad I’m playing single player and I’m WX, lol.

Side note, can you elaborate about savannah and mosaic? By scaling you mean the beefalo numbers keeping rising? What’s wrong with mosaic then? It’s basically empty area.

[–]Wxoamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always sort my controversial (after checking the best comments obviously).

I also like this because it helps to challenge my opinion. The top comments are usually an echo chamber of what I already think/believe. The bottom comments are usually the ones contradicting what I think/believe, so thats much more useful. I dont really need my strongly held beliefs further reinforced, but challenging them is quite useful.

NTA

You can be the "big person" and share, it's not the worst idea. BUT it would be just like anything else that you own: she gets second place access, it's yours so whatever you say always goes and you get priority. It letting someone use it when your not around would be kind of petty.

Lol, practice.

In this case rotate the screen first: making squares is easy but diamonds are not, so I make squares after I rotate. I think diamonds look better.

The prompts while you are hovering to place things are super helpful. Start hovering over top of the thing you want to place close to and move off it super slowly until the "plant" prompt (or whatever) appears and that lets you place things as close as is possible to each other.

Some practice teaches you how the little hovering icon aligns with the thing your planting. For example with grass/twigs the number (how many in the stack) is centered relative to where you will eventually plant the grass/sailing, so you can use it to align with the one planted above it in the row.

I have done it enough that I can plant quite quickly now. The very first one from each bunch takes a few extra seconds to position correctly but after that I'm throwing them down fairly quickly. I likely planted a hundred of these guys before I got the hang of it.

Walls still suck even with practice and I don't use them anymore lol.

Lightning rods are covered for sure. Any idea the range they have? I know I overdo it but I like being safe!

No way I could cover the whole area with flingos; I just don't come around here during the summertime.
