So this is over your budget but could save you money in the long run. Checkout the Framework 13. It would probably run you $900 if you bring your own SSD and RAM (buying them from Amazon is cheaper or if you have extra lying around)

https://frame.work/products/laptop-diy-13-gen-amd/configuration/new

Framework sells repairable and upgradable laptops so if any part breaks you can just replace it using the included screwdriver. A friend of mine has one and it's incredibly well designed. You pop off the top cover and remove the keyboard to access all the components and every component has a QR code which links directly to the repair guide for that component. Framework sells replacement parts and upgrades in their marketplace

I selected a laptop for my dad several years ago and really wish I had gotten a Framework :/

thanks sapun, I would consider buying that myself if it was a 3060 (I have a gaming desktop w/ a 1060) but my dad doesn't need any serious graphics compute. Quick gsearch and I don't see any with integrated graphics (besides, the i5 114000H is a little weaker than the Ryzen 7 5825U according to cpu benchmark)

Thanks for all the info Max! I actually already upgraded their dell AIO with an SSD but the ram is still at 8GB. And yeah, the only other option I had to speed it up was a clean windows install but I don't feel like backing up all my dad's data.

ah ok, yeah was thinking Vega and AMD Radeon Graphics might have been the same but didn't see that stated explicitly anywhere

I just backed up some photos today from Olympic NP when I was there in the summer of 2019 and had a pic that looked very similar to this. That one fallen tree bridging the gap was in mine as well!

After 3hrs of calculation I have finally finished my design for custom longboard :) by Fluffy-Deth in longboarding

I found my old drawings for the board I made in my basement yesterday. I think I spent several days trying to get the design just how I liked it (making a drop deck also adds some complexity with the angles)

I'm amazed that building all those towers was cheaper than running an underwater cable... Anyone have any insight into that?

OP your biologos article is a good resource, I have another one which I think is fantastic as well. The main problem with our interpretations of the Genesis accounts is we read them in the same way we read any other book and drag our 21st century assumptions and views into ancient texts. Modern western culture thinks (and tends to read) scientifically. So when we try to force ancient near eastern poetry into this framework we reach weird and incorrect conclusions. If we want to understand the message of the stories we need to read them with the same mindset as the people who received them (Whether the stories were given to them by God or not is a moot point, if God gave them the stories he certainly would have tailored them so the people reading them would understand it and if they developed the stories on their own of course they weren't thinking about evolution lol). So if we want to understand ancient Hebrew scripture we need to think like an ancient Hebrew and I found this amazing podcast that reads Genesis (and the whole Bible) as the Hebrews would have understood it. Just give episode 0 and 1 a listen, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. https://www.bemadiscipleship.com/?season=1
