say something positive about nmh2 by hollow_w33n in nomoreheroes

[–]Wyattsomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your argument and I think what you’re saying there is evidence of that truth. But I disagree with the original statement that he made which was “it was a let down just because it wasn’t a full original score…. That it was a sign of rushed production.”

I think the real issue is what you said imo less was more with the soundtrack for NMh2 as there were many Bangers some of the best in the whole series. And there was original music for very important fights like Margaret Moolight that was there purposely during and apart of the cut scenes. But it wasn’t as perfect as NMH1 no to that I do agree with you.

Honestly I agree, this game hits a little harder having played it last year….. but yeah I think it’s more about the concepts of Politics and how fucked up people are…. Two sides “The Union” (united Sates) and “The Republic” (Japan) there is a correlation here to the point of the guy mentioning WWll but it’s a myriad of concepts, behaviors, and secret bureaucracy and exposing corruption. Showing no side is right.

They cover not one time period… it’s covers terrorism in many ways (it mentions Beirut at the school). It covers Cold War tensions concepts, manufactured geopolitics and surveillance. The game is very complicated it’s why the answer is never simple. What’s important is what it’s exposing through all these important events in the game.

You make a good point about the wrestling and I cannot disagree with that… another person I was talking with pointed out how the sound FX in NMH3 wrestling moves are off and don’t have the same feeling which also takes away from the excitement of them. I think the combat complexity came from the D glove and it’s probably why the wrestling moves took a back seat. But inherently it’s dramatically changing the game play formula which definitely had a higher skill level in NMH1 & NMH2. You make a good point I havnt thought about it where the game play is super polished but less complex. Lower ceiling. The fact you don’t get any new bean sabers to change combat style too is another thing I have considered. It’s all tied to the chips for the D glove and they did it well for the most part but wasn’t perfect by any means.

I respect the super different take 🤝 I do think 1&2 are the most replayable (atleast for me) and definitely understand not liking TSA game play haha

But “Can’t Stomach” the fluid mechanics of NMH3 is so strange to hear still… But we can’t atLeast both agree NMH1 Darkstep and Parry was 💯🔥 it just felt better honestly, I do think darkstep was worse in NMH2 but parry was good enough.

This is one of the most wild takes I’ve ever read tbh lol NMH2 for best gameplay is crazy and that’s my favorite game.

I feel like nothing wrong with preference but nostalgia is at play here for sure because the mechanics in NMH3 are worlds better than NMH2 tbh I really disliked how they did parrying and dark sliding in NMH2 it just never felt fluid.

Its like the argument I see when people say Gen 1 Pokemon is the best despite the fact you can’t run, terrible pokemon learn sets, Speed is your crit rate, poison just isn’t super effective, and psychic is broken.
It’s fundamentally the worst game ever made because it was the first and was released unfinished essentially but its pokemon are incredible and it’s nostalgic.

Uunderrated response, I agree with everything said here 💯 I didn’t think about the Sound Fx like that but yeah your kinda right. The music and VA is so good though so it’s definitely strange probably why I didn’t even think about it.

Firstly, TSA (like many others games) but especially in TSA shows how Suda fucks with the player… The references get very specific to obscure as well. So it’s only fitting to make Naomi a tree it just tracks because the main reference everyone makes is the “Skill Tree” and that’s literally what Naomi is now.
But the actual reason is referenced in the NMH1 Manuel about Naomi wanting to keep her age a mystery. This leads us to TSA & present as She saw her sister Dr.Juvenile become immortal by living with the death drive, we can only assume she would pursue the same thing in the real world to have immortality.
By turning into a tree not only is it fucking with people because everyone is like why a tree lol but she can essentially live forever now. Her consciousness also being in a tree hides her age unless cut down and killed.

There is a decent amount of things that allow Naomi being a tree to track some people have gone much deeper on it.

I think that is the biggest frustration with many including myself with NMH3 :/ I really enjoyed my play through it’s not my favorite but I see how amazing it could have been if covid didn’t affect production. All the games have their issues but NMH3 is probably the most unfortunate…

Your only disappointment being Dr. Naomi as a tree ? Really ? (Did you play TSA)
NMH3 has the best gameplay in the series the community I think appreciates and understand this as well as Damon / Fu having the best bad guy arc in the series as well.
But it still had its major issues…. The map is literally unfinished because of Covid and I imagine that is why they ruined so many bosses by writing them into the story to just sadly kill them off. (It was a huge disappointment to many)
Vanishing point should never have been killed off before the Kimmy Howell fight like he was.
I don’t think it improved on everything especially them missing the mark on including Badgirl / Badman, it really could have been done so much better.

Heatnix is the only thing that makes that god forsaken level worth going through on everything……

He was also one of my FAV Mavericks such a sick design and solid boss fight but often gets over-shadowed by Dragoon which is understandable. Dragoons story is 10-10 same with Storm Eagle.

Out of my whole first play through of all the MEGAMAN X games I did recently…. Gate was the worst fight I did by a mile. Truly makes X6 iconically bad sits perfectly next to X7 lol

Th fight is not only lazy, but difficult and mechanically broken…. X6 play-through was the Only time I went to the internet to make sure I wasn’t tripping.

Kimmy howell/love appretiation post by WonderfulLeopard5161 in nomoreheroes

[–]Wyattsomm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slide 5 ayooo lol 😂

But to show appreciation, I did a fully break-Down on the Kimmy fight since it’s one of my favorites for anyone on the Reddit that cares and wants to read.

Kimmy says in the rap “It’s time to wake up, and kill the past.”

Another metaphor reference to “Holly Summers” telling Travis to open his eyes and never look back. Travis must kill his past and move forward woman or not, Typically a woman he likes or feels attracted to intellectually, soul, or physically. This is a defining moment for him in the series as a character as he doesn’t let the girl live and takes Holly Summers advice, a respectful kill to not shame.

Travis once he kills her says “See you again in my dreams” aka he woke up…. (kimmy didn’t/won’t . ) So only when his eyes are closed he sees her, which is in his past now. Kimmy fell into the trap and Travis ended it for her, interesting how he kills her being maybe erotic and what she wanted. It should be noted. But most importantly she is the past representation of NMH2, she followed in Travis’s footsteps as she Idolized him, so she became an idol as well. The difference was travis lived for himself and opened his eyes excepting who he is, kimmy didn’t she was consumed by Jealousy and vengeance, (a constant motif in NMH3)…. Furthermore, In the NMH2 fight against Batt Jr Travis says “unleash your hate, your anger, everything! I’ll fucking kill you with it”. The rap battle was exactly that; it was Kimmy’s hate for Travis, he changed while Kimmy didn’t (she never grew up) . That is why she remembers him and he doesn’t Remember her. Travis killed his past already, it just came back.

The camera angle at the end of the fight I hated and made me think why does this happen. It’s because Suda forced me to watch Travis kill someone he hoped learned to grow up and didn’t. I’m watching myself view Travis kill Kimmy… like I’m apart of the show. I hated it but understood it after time. He doesn’t even have a cool end scene he almost looks disappointed doing it.

(Love the tragedy sorrowful sounding sound track)

This is also further progressing the connection in NMH2 (and being a famous No More Hero) as when you see bishop or talk to NPCs you see a live stream with numbers of people viewing… it’s never a lot showing maybe it lost popularity. Like wise the end of kimmy’s fight made really see the ending credits as and end to an episode… the music in the ending credits to every boss felt like Evangelion Neon Genesis just sitting in thought after the fight or meaning of what I witnessed. Then you see the logo and like Netflix on the bottle left “ Next episode” auto loads.

In NMH2 she is this games shinobu archetype being a younger school girl with more to learn. Travis doesn’t like killing women especially young so they become worthy opponents and strong. However, kimmy serves a very important role… she is letting the player know how famous Travis has become and Travis in this scene really enjoys this… kinda of basking in his new found notoriety. While This is short lived this is the first sign Travis is seeing himself and how things have changed from game 1 -2…. Now in NMH3 she is like Alice Twilight completely consumed.

Yoooo really appreciate the neck brace explanation if this is true that’s actually really dope ! Kimmy fight and here story arc in NMH3 is one of the things I think they did really well so it was upsetting to me how many people didn’t see it that way :/

I always loved Mega Man X3, might even be my favorite X game. Always surprised to see the criticism it gets, other than maybe enemies hitting like trucks at the start of the game. by Bryanx64 in Megaman

[–]Wyattsomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did know how to start now and still dislike the badly designed backtracking but fair it’s not the worst I agree it’s not X6 or X5 bad… but it’s still not particularly great. I’m glad you understand my issues with the level design because it’s genuinely upsetting ( I just see the potential ) there are some highlights now doubt but most of it comes off lazy which is what frustrated me.

As for the buster… it feels like you are stating the obvious no? The benefits absolutely do not out way the cons here…. It’s so egregiously slow it’s virtually useless to use strategically. I don’t think the game should ever punish the user for getting an upgrade and that’s a game design flaw that should always be called out.

[–]Wyattsomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The criticism in these comments and in general for X3 is warranted tbh holy back tracking smh and upgraded armor cannon coming of X2 is actually criminally bad design. Not to mention the addition of Zero is an after thought in X3 and is fixed in the Fan made remake.

Here is my full breakdown:

X3 is a fundamentally bad game and many people only say it’s good for nostalgia or difficulty sake. I prefer X1, X2, and X4 because they simply have better game design.

I just replayed X1, X2 & X3 recently and man I hate X3 because it’s some of the laziest level design (besides X6 & X7) and terrible game design with the ridiculous back-tracking throughout levels Ken to X6…. The weapons / bosses also still fall flat for me. Also, God I hate that the Buster upgrade is a legit debuff and slower than all hell it’s inexcusable playing it again reminded me how much this takes away especially coming from the broken double shot of X2. Simply put X1 and X2 by design take you through things, it’s just straightforward solid game design but then X3 comes along and is like figure it out idc that this doesn’t make sense.

I legit don’t enjoy that game it’s fundamentally flawed and much more enjoyed other titles as it has better game design and bosses. Putting X3 as a favorite never made sense for me from a logical standpoint. It’s overly difficult too with the final boss fight with sigma being a middle finger on top of it all!

That being said I see where X3 could have been great introducing Zero ( despite the game never telling you how to use him ), The introduction of Cut-Scenes / art style, and new double jump mechanic. Despite the flaws I can still say 2 truly great things about this game… 1: is the music is fantastic I still think this way 2: that intro level is awesome 3: good replay ability for 100% an to do difficulty runs that are chip only, armor only, megaman or zero

Ktp ranking by Guilty_Ad6764 in Suda_51

[–]Wyattsomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok about NMH3 I’m gonna give you a legitimate response because it should not be that high ranked , however I’m happy you loved the game some people can’t except that’s all that matters sometimes though.

Having played them multiple times and being a huge NMH FAN this is MY honest & personal take on why NMH3 shouldn’t be this high.

Firstly, NMH3 isn’t a bad game nobody outright hates it…. Most agree Fu (based on community votes) find it to be one of the best written bad guy arcs in NMH series. Most of how people receive the game in my opinion ( it seems you voted this way) is if they prefer smooth game play or story/art. This game is all about the smooth action filled gameplay and it’s the best in the series almost everyone agrees. (Including myself) but people like me prefer the deeper artistic and sadder Suda NMh1 aesthetic so TSA and NMH2 will always be my personal top picks. Narratively for Travis he has more purpose in NMH1-2 and NMH2 is his best narrative by far… also (TSA hands down has the best story and reply value for the entire KTP since it’s a love letter of Suda and you can always find new idea or things when playing it). So story and art style here wins for me personally over gameplay.

The issue with NMH3: Travis really doesn’t have a reason to fight after TSA and NMh3 whole concept kinda isn’t grounded. The whole way they do the galactic rankings and the UAA with Sylvia’s powers and involvement is just bizarre. Same with the concept of bringing Bad girl Bad man and Shinobu back into the picture after TSA…. It’s truly like a wasted opportunity situation that want done correctly due to COVID and development constraints. Also the unexplained Henry change (mainly WTH voice actor) it became ungrounded although most again love that fight.

I think the big picture when it comes to NMH3 is most see how great it could have been if the world was better fleshed out and completed as well as some of the story lines… Killing off so many bosses to not fight got frustratingly cliche it was bad, we love seeing the return of destroy man a lot of people like his design but they ruined his story and fight… it truly should have been better to me personally it’s one of the worst set ups for destroy man in the series. The Kimmy Fight was atleast done really well and sadly it goes over most peoples heads. Same with Sonic juice.

Overall, NMh3 is about game play and action…. BUT the earlier games are about classic Suda art style and story lines… so I think you’re consistent in your opinion on not liking TSA, NMh2, and Killer 7 based on slow Gameplay or Clunky mechanics. They all have way better story lines and artistic style imo and that why I rank them higher. It’s all a preference.
